    Re: Lost Odyssey

Since this thread is kickin' more than the one in the RPG discussion, I'll repost this:

    http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/News-111566.aspx

The review build had a loading bug it seems. The retail NA version does not suffer from the same loading that every reviewer was bitching about.

The load times aren't an issue whatsoever, heres a video showing them:

The game is awesome so far. I'm really loving it. Great story, characters, and the battle system reminds me of the older Final Fantasy games (4-9). It's easily an 8.5/10 in my books. I don't have any real complaints about it yet. Anyone with a 360 should check this out for sure.

Yup, longest loading screen is like 10 seconds long in the retail version.

oh and that score will more than likely go up once you're done with Numara/CD1 heh.

I'd even go higher than that. IGN did a horrible job of reviewing this game in my opinion. They failed to mention anything about how the story was presented. Little things like picture-in-picture, the word animation in the stories, and stuff like that easily gives this game a 10 in presentation alone. They hated on the voice actors too, but I think they're pretty good. Jensen, the Numara general, and the Queen all have fantastic English voice actors. Games like this just further reinforce my belief that if a game isn't Halo or a similiar cookie-cutter FPS (or if they dont throw cash at them) that IGN simply won't give a game its due rating. And seriously they need to quit bitching about the load times, they're the same or better than any other game out there.

tl;dr don't trust the reviews of this game, go pick it up and decide for yourself.

They also bitched about the parts with Cooke and Mack... I thought it was one of the most emotional moments i've ever experienced in an RPG, in terms of everything... once you get to meet the kids and do all the things that you do with them until the end of CD1 you'll see what I mean, but wow... how they failed to mention that is beyond me.

I just don't think it can be stressed enough how awesome the dreams are to read. They are long, but I never felt compelled to skip through them to get back to playing - they are that amazing. The climax of every story usually sends a shiver through my body. Also, Jansen's dialogue had me lol (for real) a couple of times. Very good writing. Been working, so I'm not as far as I'd like to be, but I'm off this weekend so I'll get to put some serious playtime in.

So if you people were on the fence, get off of it and go buy this now!

Jansen is indeed very well portrayed/written/acted/VA'd... my favorite char thus far.

Also Ronx, They do not go in order... when you get to a new area, run around and see if it flags anywhere... they will flag randomly, you don't need to initiate it, they will just flag when you pass through someone/something that reminds you of a past recollection... so just make sure you go into every house, every street, in every city, etc. before advancing forward with the story or whatever it is you're doing.

Also, how good were the cutscenes before the funeral huh?

Music and story are great. The dreams are a really nice touch to the game, the concept is simple but they are well writen.

You're always going to get different accounts for the story. Some people love Xenosaga and hated Kingdom Hearts, yet both had long drawn out bland cut-scenes. Settings/characters/plots have always been something that differs from person to person in taste.

Edit: Basically my point is if you're that interested I'd recommend just playing it.
I was on the fence (I never thought much about LO, at least from a gameplay standpoint). But if the story is amazing as people say, I'll definitely give it a try at sometime.

Welp, it's settled. Picking up Wednesday when I get my paycheck fo sho. This game looks awesome. The load times are fucking FINE based on that video. Whoever the fuck reviewed it and said it was like 20 seconds was a dick munching faggot who deserves to be punched in the face. I'm looking at you 1up!

[don'tread]Or is that PS3 load times? because I'm assuming 360 load times should be the same considering it wasn't designed to take advantage of the ps3 most likely.[/don'tread]

    Good call!

I think I saw the word PS3 somewhere in this thread while skimming and assumed it was on the PS3 also, although I hadn't heard it was supposed to be coming out on the PS3 I simply assumed I overlooked it. Oh well.

Love that guy. As I can personally recall, its like the first game to have the voice actors interrupt / talk over each other, as they would in real life. It does not feel scripted at times, and those times are amazing.

Every cutscene with Jansen so far (im nearing the end of CD2) has been amazing... I absolutely love that character to death lol.

    EDIT: Cross that, just beat CD2. ;;

This is where you lose me. I can't play the game and not keep thinking that Jansen is a not-funny rip-off of Chandler from the tv show "Friends."

Meh it's my taste, Jansen is a brilliantly written character. He's SUPPOSED to be annoying, but it still works.

    Re: Lost Odyssey

Absolutely, Jansen is a great character. Professional wrestling has taught us that any time a character gets some extreme response, good or bad, it's a great character. I still keep waiting for Phoebe and Monica to come busting into the next scene...

Totally different question: As you progress in levels does the gap in damage between Kaim and Seth get bigger? I'm only about mid 20's or so, and the difference in their normal attacks is pretty minimal, but Seth attacks much faster.
