A pretty straightforward review... I think it's still worth picking up. If it's better than Blue Dragon, it's worth 60 bucks.

Well I only just bought Mass Effect, so I've been playing that. Then 2 weeks later I bought DMC, and in another week i'm probably going to buy Lost Odyssey. $60 is expensive >.>

From what I've seen on this game, it definitely looks like the best RPG for the Xbox 360 that I have seen so far, but sadly, it still doesn't really make me want to buy that system just for this game. Next Gen stuff is getting really expensive. >.<

If I already had an Xbox 360, I would definitely get this game.

Ugh.. random battles. Such a horrible and archaic battle system.

After playing oh so many pokemon and FF games, and a bunch of others with random battles, I can't stand them anymore, games with random battles are instant turn offs now

Pretty much summed up my feelings for the game. Though I do want to try, it's definitely not something I would lay down £40-50 on.

Between this, DMC4, and Mass Effect making me go back and play through Jade Empire again, I'm glad I've got a ton of sick-days saved up...

It's funny how no one had a problem with random encounters before FF12 came out...

Funny? More like logical. After you've tasted something better, you don't want to go back to the old stuff. And FF12 was not the only rpg with no random encounters.

Yeah but no one had a problem with it prior to FF12. And honestly, I didn't think 12's system was better than some random encounter systems that were used in the past simply because of the flawed gambit system, and I've voiced my opinion on that matter a few times in the past already so I won't start a debate about that again now.

However, games like Star Ocean and Radiata Stories, in my eyes, are a different king of RPG since they don't incorporate any of Square/Enix's (before the merge) battle options (and the button mashing makes them closer to Kingdom Hearts rather than to a Final Fantasy.)

Since when has it been cool to jump on the random encounter hating? I must've missed the train. I never said they are awesome and completely flawless, but they are fun and make boss battles (at least for me) more epic than the way boss fights were presented in FF12. Also, better music can be used during a turn-based enviornment than in a game like FF12 where the orchestrated style (while it did work out quite well) is pretty much the only thing that can be played during that type of surroundings.

Dismissing BD and LO simply because they use turn-based, random encounter systems seems silly in my opinion, even if you think they're "outdated" (by one game, which wasn't all that) and the uncool thing to like anymore.

Just my 2 cents, take it for what you will.

    Re: Lost Odyssey (X360)

You do realize that in your post, you in no way, shape, or form attacked people's preference for no random encounters, and instead you focused on attacking FF12 itself, when in no way has anyone in this thread, besides yourself, even mentioned FF12? And not only that but you somehow missed the point of what i was saying.

You not only assumed that people liked no random encounters because of FF12, you somehow managed to say that music with random encounters is better than the opposite, when your example was one game with no random encounters. Next, you somehow equate the no random encounters to FF12's gambit system... seriously what the fuck? How did you even manage to drag that in here? And then you don't seem to understand that if FF12 had anything to do with why people like random encounters less now, it would be because they have had enough exposure to the opposite, FF12 being the most popular among the no random encounter RPGs, to prefer no random encounters.

You may prefer random encounters, but most people don't. Your post was basicaly you complaining about FF12 rather than explaining why you liked random encounters more.

I've always had a problem with random encounters. It's just that I couldn't really complain because so few games did away with it. Random encounters have never been cool. I'd much rather play a game where I can pick whether I want to fight random nobody #2452 rather than be forced to fight random nobody #2452.

I don't see how wasting god knows how long of your life looking at non-skippable intro and outro #45481 is fucking fun. I don't give a shit about the battle system, turn based, ATB, Gambit whatever. I'll play it, but I'm sick of random encounters. I don't see how it makes a boss battle any less epic or fun either. VP is another game that does away with random battles in a way I like. Basically, I see people moving away from annoying random encounters, instead Mistwalks right to them.
