My new least favorite people are the BBWAA members that sent in blank Hall of Fame ballots to protest the steroid era. Jim Rice missed the HoF by 14 votes. Way to punish a guy for playing baseball the way you want it played, geniuses.

No kidding man, poor Jim Rice. Such a great player, surely better than some of the guys in the HOF.

Another guy who consistently gets snubbed is Andre Dawson: 2774 hits, 438 HR, 314 SBs

He got bumped up to 65.9% this year. Unfortunately, he might dip again next year, though. Ricky Henderson is almost a lock to be a 1st ballot inductee, and Jim Rice will (hopefully) over come those last few votes in his 15th and final year on the ballot.

Naw. They air his ESPN radio show here in Buffalo from 11 to noon every day before Rome. I just hate his voice, I hate his sense of humor, and he constantly bags on the sport of Hockey, which is a big no-no. People here in Buffalo are Hockey-crazy, including me.

Colin is great imo. Most of his opinions are spot on. He just talks about things that make people feel uncomfortable (and lolBig 10). Sorry to burst your bubble but with the exception of Buffalo and maybe a few other northern cold weather cities, Hockey is a fucking joke in the rest of the Country. He is right about that one too.

I dunno, I would think that hockey is pretty big in Anaheim where they just won the Stanley cup, and maybe in Dallas to a degree, and Tampa Bay.

Yeah, he was definitely hilarious and ridiculous, on so, so many levels. But the man could run and is a HOFer for sure.

I think the game could be popular again. Gary Bettman isn't doing a very good job with the NHL. There was the strike a few years ago because owners and the players were fighting over the CBA (basically players were getting payed ridiculous amounts of money and there was no ceiling in sight), so they shut down the league, made some rule changes to the CBA as well as the game itself to speed up the game, score more goals.

Things go great for the first season back. Fast and exciting teams were dominating. Players weren't raping the owners coffers, everyone was happy. Fast forward to now. Teams/players are now getting ridiculous contracts, and the game is slow and boring again because defenses have learned how to adjust to the rules and clamp down on fast and exciting teams.

They're back to where they were pre-lockout.

I agree with you. I am certainly not a Hockey hater. There is nothing else like going to a Hockey game and seeing your first fight. The games are always exciting when you are there. It's just that for the most part the American market has completely given up on Hockey. That is why Colin Cowherd always busts on it.

Going back to the OP now Colin is my favorite radio host but it used to be Dan Patrick. And I also agree that the Tirico show is awesome when Van Pelt is on. That dude is funny as shit.

I agree with you. I am certainly not a Hockey hater. There is nothing else like going to a Hockey game and seeing your first fight. The games are always exciting when you are there. Stanley Cup Finals get beat in ratings because the teams playing for the championship are coming out of markets that no one cares about, except those in that market. Who really wants to see Carolina against Anaheim in places like Detroit, New York, Colorado, and all of Canada.

I'd say Chicago too, because it used to be a huge hockey market, but with the past 10 years of lolBlackhawks, hockey at the pro level was dead in this town until this year when we signed Kane and Toews. The United Center is filling up again for more than just rivalry games, so hopefully Chicago once again becomes a big hockey market.

Go back a few years and watch the playoff games between Detroit and Colorado, and New Jersey and Philadelphia. They are usually some of the hardest hitting and most fun games to watch, and I hate both the Aves and Red Wings. It's the same in all sports really, if you're a smaller market team, no one is gonna tune in to watch you play....but that's one of the main reason the CBA expired and the NHL shut down. The league wanted to make it so that smaller markers could compete with the large ones and make things somewhat more fair, but as said teams figured out how to adjust to the new NHL era.

Are certain aspects of the game better now? Yes they are (hi 2u shootouts) but are some things the same, or worse? Yes. They need to let players police the game like it used to be, let's face it, fighting draws more fans and for some reason Gary Bettman just doesn't understand this.
