    Monitor or Vid Card problem?

    So I got my 19" 1440x900 (16:10) monitor in today, aside from how bright it is (thats good I guess anyway), it seems to fine, no dead pixels or anything like that. Its connected through DVI, but I had to set my res to 1280x800 @75hz though because my card cant handle 1440x900 >.>;

    FFXI looks more pixeld than usual though, I set it to 16:10 and I guess it looks ok res wise, but the graphics just look bad.

    Take note of the of the purple band on the coat that runs down the legs, and see how jaggy they are. It's never been like that, so I was wondering if the res makes it look lke that, or if my vid card sucks to much (probably).

    Thanks D;

    Is it a flat panel monitor? If so why are you using 75hz... most flat panels can only do 60.

    Did you set your background resolution to match your new one? If so then yeah.. it may just be a crappy video card.

    It sounds like you need to increase your background resolution to accompany for the higher resolution. Assuming it's not already at the max via reg edit.

    Can use mogtoolz to do this for you.

    Re: Monitor or Vid Card problem?

    I have a 60 and 75hz option, did a quick search or two and saw that 75 performs better than 60. I tried both, and cant really tel any difference though.

    I totally forgot about the registry, I used to have 1024x768 res, so Overlay was set to that, but it looks like it autoadjusted that surprisingly, so now my overlay graphics resolution is 1280x800, and my background res is still 1024x1024. Should that stay the same, or what shoul it be changed to, or should both be changed?

    try increasing the background resolution. You may notice an fps decrease due to old video card ect ect.

    That should reduce jaggies though.

    Re: Monitor or Vid Card problem?

    Changed BG to 1280x1280 (seems it has to be 1:1?), looks better I guess. But I dunno. I also dont remember the seek/bazaar icon to be so wide.

    Also, I dont remember my character selection scren to be stretched out is the ingame res setting not affecting this screen since the game settings havent loaded yet? Or is there sumin going on?

    I guess the wide icon/name is just a side effect of a widescreen, doesnt look like anything I change, changes it.

    The bg res can go a lot higher then that unless your sacrificing huge performance for it. Try 2048x2048 or a 16:10 proportion.

    Icon size is just a side-effect of the wide-screen from what I've seen on my laptop (which also happens to be 1440x900 16:10).

    Main FFXI menu ignores volume/ingame screen settings for some retarded reason though.

    Re: Monitor or Vid Card problem?

    Looking back at some old screenshots(before I went widescreen), it seems the icons next to your names do get streched a bit. That and the widescreen aspect ratio other than 4:3 doesn't take effect until you log in as a character. That setting is character specific so you'll have to set it for your mules too.
