Re: Another help me build my computer thread

if you're from toronto, hit college st. near spadina, there's a build-your-computer village there

http://www.canadacomputers.com has quite a few locations, ill likely be going there altho my friend built a system with sweet specs (reasonable specs that is) for about 1200, but he didnt like the service at cc, very busy there, so he just went up the street

http://www.mdg.ca is decent but newegg is way too amazing to compare to futureshop.ca

in short canada doesnt have anything as good as newegg (altho they do ship to canada i think)

    futureshop.ca
Lol, no. I work there, and FS is NOT the place to get PC parts.

    http://www.memoryexpress.com
    http://www.ncix.com

I got all my PC parts through Memory Express with the exception of a couple things, (which I got through NCIX) and their prices were the best I could find short of Newegg. Now, I'm not sure if Memory Express ships all over Canada, but I know NCIX does.

Re: Another help me build my computer thread

I think I've mostly finalized my decisions...

For the video card I'm now looking at:

EVGA GeForce 8600GTS Superclocked 256-P2-N765-AR Video Card

150 bucks, good reviews, and according to my research it could even play Crysis at medium.

According to the newegg wattage calculator (<3 that thing), the reccomended wattage is >423 for my setup.

RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Retail

Has 4 fans, comes with a 500w power supply, side panel, flip down sides, and looks very aesthethically pleasing.

Anything I should change? I think I'm mostly satisfied. I was considering an 8800, but then that would mean getting a higher quality PSU, and cooling, and a longer case... and I don't play anything that requires that much power.

Re: Another help me build my computer thread

Well if you plan on going SLI or dual cards in the future 2 8600 GTS is the same as running 1 8800GT. So really if you do plan to go that route your looking at 320$ for 2 cards. OR 250$ for 1 card that performs to the same level as the 2 8600 GTS.

Whats your total price on your system and what pieces are you going with finalized ?

I don't really plan on using SLI now or in the future, as I said I'm not a hardcore gamer. The most graphic intensive game I've played besides FFXI was.... Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 lol.

I've finalized everything I think... was just looking for input on the nVIDIA 8600GTS.

Currently the tower is about $750 without any peripherals or monitor.

8600gts is better than onboard graphics (significantly) but hardly considered a great video card even for the money but for FFXI you'll be fine.
