I'm not defending their effectiveness or lack of it, I'm just making it clear they aren't evil. The issues listed above are bad design or bad decisions or slow reaction. None of which I think is because SE thinks they made a perfect game.
I think their logic is more like "lets throw a band aid on the finger we just chopped off and get back to it later on." Which to me seems like how they have always handled most situations.

Go fuck yourself. BG is a better linkshell now then before those cockjockeys left for WoW.

BTW, sashay on over to their website and ask them how WoW is treating them...
Last I heard they aren't progressing much anymore.
I know the got Illidan down but meh. Updates are far and few, forums are dead...

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

I believe a lot of these limitations are indeed in fact contributed to the development team.

For one thing, I think the main dev. team is in Japan. Not in the US. Thus they don't hear your cries for improvement unless there is a bilingual CSR working there AND is checking up on these/killingifrit/(insert name) forums. Even if they did, they probably take his/her comments lightly.

The game could be improved much, much more. But it's what the developers need to do to keep the playerbase happy. And we don't see that happening too often. Where is the promised January update for Blue Mage spells that was announced during the FF Fan festival thing? I'm sure many BM's are looking forward to this.

The following is one of the main things that indicates to me how hard they're working on keeping things up to daet.
Toau job AF2's still have not been released. Toau has been out since 2nd quarter of 2006. That is two years.

A friend of mine who works as a GM at Square Enix (NA side) had mentioned to me that most of the GM's don't even play FFXI, WoW is primary choice of MMORPG. This alone is what I think has attributed to GM incompetence on assisting players.

Some people say the game is not dying yet. They just do not realize. People from the NA/JP Launch of the game have seen much of their old friends gone. Anyone who started from the 2003-2004 years can prove to you that the number of players that come online on their friends list (assuming they had one) is in fact much less than the '05/2006+ and beyond players.

Weren't we suppose to get DX9 when WOTG launched? I haven't seen that as well.

I don't really have much of a friends list anymore. Most of them quit mid way thru CoP. Then the rest went to try PSO or WoW. But a few of them have wondered back. Some are waiting for the next great MMO to come out and are killing time on Live.

IF it matters much I am back from the NA beta days.

They no longer intend to because it's too difficult for them to-....

    Uh, PS2 limitations.

I really hope they don't make false promises a habit, hmmm, nevermind!

That's a really broad generalization. Over the years I have seen a number of people quit, it's true, I've also seen a number of people come back and stay, some leave again, seen new players come on, and still do. I think it's really an exaggeration to say there is a massive exodus behind people having 'much less' people on their friends list. Not saying that membership is up or anything, but it's a long cry from dead.

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

An old face from the past coming to the rescue of original BG.

Please don't discredit original BG, Septimus... when EdwardTheBlack actually logged on (oh wait, that was never lol) and Berticus was in charge. BG is not just "who runs the web site now." BG was only the linkshell you aspired to get into way back in the day because of "those cockjockeys [that] left for WoW." You should have respect. When you first joined BG (I remember), we were already a legend, it was not one that you started.

In the early days, most people gave up incredible amounts of "real life" stuff to play. A lot of members dropped out of school/college, skipped classes, took mediocre jobs, avoided social lives, slept at odd hours, and we even had a sort of phone tree where people would get woken up for HNMs. Original BG set the standard for intensity and dedication of NA players in FFXI/on Bahamut. I know I sacraficed a lot in my life for BG in the onset, and still continue to pay for the damages of my actions in real life.

In my opinion, FFXI died when people didn't care enough to give up everything to be the best. However, it's not reasonable to give up IRL for MMOs anyway so BG's highest point of intensity was short-lived. A catch 22, if you will (and I don't mean 22 the player).

If my memory serves me correctly FFXI became tired the day the long awaited CoP came out, mimiced sky poorly, and barely worked. It proved Square could not top Zilart xpack and never really did.

I would just like to thank God and common sense for not turning me into this guy or any other of the Original Bg elite...

Yes, I realize exactly what you say and that the actual playerbase currently is long from dead.
The notion I wanted to get across was, of the senior players - Square Enix has not done that great of a job to keep them in the game. For these players who left, their money is now somewhere else in another game. If they had done a better job at keeping them enjoying the content, then you would see much more of these 'friends' online today.

Yet this holds true from all games - They all have a golden time where you could call it the "peak". Every game's had it, and usually it was within the first few years of release. Look at Diablo, Diablo II, Darkstone, Starcraft, Warhammer 40k, etc, just some examples provided. Each and every single one of these games are still alive today - but the actual playerbase is gone. What's left are just what I would guess as enthusiasts, casual, and nostalgic players.

Yeah, I would say it sucked pretty bad to give all that up. Even worse, those that took on the BG name will not even acknowledge what we did to make BG in the first place. And for your information, I'm the only original veteran female from BG. I'm entitled to the "she" pronoun. Nikkei came much later than I did. There was another girl named Laine long before me but she left before BG became an HNM LS.

JerseyProphet, stop talking about our personal life on BG forums, lol.

    Edit: Spelling.

Egh, no need to take it as a personal attack. I think 22, Edward, Ondori, Berticus, Cloud, the 2 people that always went afk making out in lower jeuno by the fountain, Lujan, etc. when I think BG.

I was dating someone a long time ago IRL who used to be in the old old OLD BG and she just has her opinions I guess. Im still in touch with her, if you count TXTs/WoW as in touch and I just listen to the old stories how the old days with you guys. I was never a member, so what the hell do I know. Just repeating shit.

Old BG, new BG - either way BlueGarter both in game in the forums were possible the most influential part of FFXI in the history of it's players. K? Can we settle our sensitive nerves?
Well shit, I know it's a sensitive topic and he had a poor choice of words, but a ban?

I used to be in WoW BG back when they first started out, and I was absolutely shocked at the near polar opposite of forum personalities shown there. A lot of them were complete and utter assholes in the non-funny sense, and I didn't mesh well with that.

I will always see the FFXI BG as the main Blue Gartr. You see the forums and community here being a hub for a large portion of the FFXI end-game community, constantly discussing all aspects of the game. You see FFXI BG members as people who are known throughout FFXI.

The WoW BG members are pretty much nobodies in the WoW world. Granted there is a lot more competition, but they aimed for a spot that they couldn't reach in time, and now they've just devolved into random crap and pictures of mutilated penises or other such 4chan crap. You don't see any of the allure there that BG is known for in FFXI. They are now a shadow of what FFXI BG is.

Also, from little experience, I have to say FFXI-BG tend to have better voices. I hope JP takes his ban well, he seemed to take things too seriously.

You know, when I wrote that I actually thought to myself, "I should put an astrix there with a note that says 'Except for Amarok'." But I figured you would know that you weren't included in that list.

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

Seems a lot of the posts in this thread are completely subjective with no actual evidence or proof to back claims for the post CoP-era of FFXI. This thread should be renamed "Why I think FFXI is thinning out" or "Why FFXI is dieing out to me".

Purely subscription-base wise, FFXI has not had any noticeable change in population in years.
