    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

You know what I liked best about ToAU when it first came out? How people were abuzz over it. Before it came out, I was getting extremely complacent with FFXI, to the point of even thinking about quitting. ToAU was the shot in the arm that FFXI needed to keep their dedicated player base intact.

No so much with WoTG. I explored a bit, found it lacking and wasn't too enamored with Campaign and other things.. It was just not for me. ToAU had assaults, besieged, new meripo areas, kick ass HNM's like Cerberus, Hydra nearly from day one, and some really great gear, some of which is easily obtained through Assault.

WoTG? very meh for me. The only reason why I stay on is for my linkshell that I've lead for 4 years, and they're like family to me. I log on, help them, and all is good.

expansions arnt really the problem in my opinion. someone will always be unsatisfied because an expansion doesnt help their job or offer enough content. pretty easy to clear the content in an expansion in the year to year 1/2 between that and the next expansion. this game is thinning out due to the high hacking rate. LS using 3rd party programs to dominate their given servers is whats killing ffxi imo. people who play legit and cant stand a chance on a claim. you eventually get bored when you cant claim anything. i believe people who are on servers similar to mine can probably relate to me.

Cause we all know fixing botting at 2 camp is going to fix the game. We all LOVE to camp fafnir every night for the small chance to see good loot. T

Motivation is an entirely different thing than content. You can't say "ToAU had so much more content than WotG", when all it really had was more worthwhile rewards. That's basically the point I'm getting across.

Equipments, monsters, musics, new areas...dont see why we shouldnt consider that as "content"?. They add to the longevity of the game, and make it less repetitive

And arguing ToA as same amount of content on release than WoTG is retarded, when there is an obvious gap between both. Assault, xp mobs, HNM, besieged vs campaign? Add campaign ops if you want, but they suck

Besieged sucked at first too. WoTG has as many exp camps as ToAU. WoTG has an HNM... :D

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

So many good points in this thread.

As a 75 SCH (heck even the slower, 'average' players will have hit 60 by now), I am getting tired of waiting for SE to begin fixing my job. Yes, I hit 75 relatively fast but to be honest, getting any job to 75 can be easily achieved by an average player in less than 3 months now. SE needs to realize this and be more prepared for these situations.

In fact, they needed to not follow the pattern of new jobs they exhibited when ToA came out. When COR,PUP, and BLU came out, only BLU was truly well planned. It dominated exp parties for a great portion of its life, even before AF. COR was an 'okay' support in its initial form but it still had quite a bit of firepower at its disposal to be a great party member. PUP was...pretty strong up to 50 and then rapidly decreased in overall usefulness. Assault gear however saved these jobs in the early run. It gave players dedicated to leveling them a pretty solid goal to reach for. The first update after the expansion release slightly helped all three jobs but not nearly as much as patches nearly one year later.

Flash forward to SCH and DNC and it's easy to see that SE failed to learn the lessons. Leveling SCH was a lot of fun but part of the main draw of the job, the weather spells and Helices, have turned out to be duds. DNC, which was so incredible as a healer at early levels, becomes less effective as a main healer for later parties. TP cost is simply too high. There is nothing from this expansion that either job can use that truly benefits them. I am amazed to think that they had 'testers' to actually play these jobs at all levels and give them all passing grades. I understand they want the community to help define a job but they should still release jobs that actually have undergone their own testing. They would have seen a lot of potential problems. But I digress...

I find it amazing people can still honestly lie to themselves at this point in claiming WotG was as good as ToAU's initial release. Rehashed zones, shitty equipment, a bastardized version of garrison/besieged and 3 stupid easy quests.
SCH should have never been made to begin with and instead had its planned abilities distributed between WHM and BLM. All SE did was create a new half-assed job for people to QQ about.

I don't think anyone is saying that Wings was as good as Treasures at launch. They are just saying that the freaking sky isn't falling.

I havent been back to the past in 2 weeks since I ranked up to holyknight emblem, lolwotg. I know some people who have yet to even set foot in the past because their "waiting" for it to be worthwhile. I lived in whitegate for a very long time when ToAU was new, I havent had the urgency to do that with WoTG.

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

I never meant to say SE fails because of how slow this update is taking, its how I believe they communicate with their customers, or the lack thereof. The last good update was back when? October? So since that last update, there's been no significant content added. Buying WotG was like buying a pizza but getting only the crust >.> with "promises" of toppings later, lol. Before WotG came out I was getting pretty bored of FFXI, and was really looking foward to SCH and such. But of course, in the end, all SCH is, is a mage with JA's that (like someone mentioned earlier) should have just been dispersed between WHM and BLM to make those jobs more effiecent. But god forbid they do something useful like that, and instead make another job altogether.

In all honesty, all of what I say is from a standpoint of a disgruntled and bored player. That's why I'm playing WoW now. I used to be one of those anti-WoW people for the longest time, but 4+ months of absolutely nothing short of total disappointment, it seemed like I had no choice. I'd rather stay with FF primarily, because it IS a fun game, otherwise I wouldn't be playing after over 4 years, its my game, my "home" so to speak. That's why I'm waiting for the next update to decide if it's time to quit. I'm not even too butthurt about wotg "content", I just wish the job I was looking foward to so much wasn't shunned by everyone, all within good reason.

Yea its not gonna be long before ffxi dies, i mean honestly what is there to do anymore? kill HNMs? done it. Do Sky? been there. Do Sea? already past it. There just isnt anything to do anymore, you could sit on your ass and camp a HNM for like 3hrs then you dont get claim, thats 3hrs wasted when you coudda gone out with friends or visited family, anything but waste your own time the expansion wasnt at all great either they just trying to keep us playing it for as long as possible to reiceive their paychecks. Only thing ill laugh about is when FF ends and all those ppl who dedicated their lives playing it will be pissed: :nikkei:

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

Well in FF's defense, theres plenty of things to do outside of that. Salvage, Nyzul, Assaults, Einherjar, etc. The big issue on my part is until I can get a new job with better hours, I'm playing primarily though NA primetime. So having a static for any of the 4 proves a bit difficult for me. But for a lot of gamers who have nothing better to do than play FF, i'd definately suggest investing time into those.

(Saw a pic of some taru PLD with Valkyrie's body, kinda impressive seeing as theres not even an NQ on my server, lol.)

Alas, without a well-defined linkshell full of people who aren't lootwhores hellbent on screwing on another over, or people who seem to have downs whenplaying FF, a lot of things in this game just can't happen

WoTG as many xp camps, but none that come close to WoTG. Go xp on gnoles if you enjoy it that much, but you would be better with signet off collibri, imps or puks. Shit, you would probably be better in uleguerand range on Taurus and demon. Worm can be killed with 6 and drop nothing. Cerb wasnt anything like that when it popped, lot of people had trouble with it and there was some reward.
I dont want to go in a long debate between campaign and salvage, but the more I play in campaign, the more repetitive it get. Defending the same area in a huge map get old pretty fast. There is no special trigger, special event..just mobs running it and aggroing normally after. It's a lot easier to get into a Besieged fight, because you can actually lose it, and there is some consequence.

Stop defending the undefendable, after 4 months, this 40$ was an awful investment for the content it gave us.

Why did you even respond to him, just look at his trashy excuse for a post. "WOTG has an HNM", just pull the trigger.

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

I agree with what has been said about the lack of communication between the players and the makers. At FFXI Fan Fest last year, I even went up to Michael-Christopher Koji and told him about an idea that I had put into the sugestion box, but had not been read(They picked ine imfamous Cheese Sandwich...).

If you look at the Starcraft II development team, they are doing the right thing. Every few weeks or so, they answer about five questions from the fans that post on the official forum. It's not much, but you'd be suprised at how much it increases the excitement and respect that the fans have for the team. I sugested this to Mr. Koji, and he said he not only liked the idea but would pass it along to Sage Sundi(Which I later found out was just as effective as passing it to a black hole...).

Everyone I talked to liked the idea and thought it would do wonders for situations like this. Sadly, it appears SE has once again ignored a good idea...

I'm saying that both werent' all that, so defending either is moot. They barely fixed any of the glaring issues with the game outside of introducing more places that people can merit and giving me a way to make an easy 15 mil with the walmart turban rush. They didn't improve on HNM, PVP, or solo content, and in fact, began the era of "I'll just need two minuscule items... and 15 khroma ores with 50 imperial gold coins" for item rewards and upgrades.

    Re: FFXI Thinning Out?

I'll give the devs that they made camps that are near broken-status and will be hardpressed to have equals in WoTG. Nyzul/Salvage/Assault are the best ToAU has to offer, EXP bonus made the game 'easy-button' status in the field of merits but yeah... HNMs arent going to change much since SE thinks the endgame population is a minority. Need more casual player content like Chocobo Racing and Pankration they say.

PvP is something they dont wanna push because supposedly it takes away from the community XI tries to present (lolcommunity) and the fact that unless its team vs team certain jobs will tear most other jobs to shreds (blu, for example).

Lastly, solo content was supposedly scrubbed in toau because shit was already so 'easy-button' (the weak mobs i suppose?) that they didnt want people running around merit camps soloing more than they could already (i assume imps/puks etc)

Khroma ore was the RMT content since SE still hasnt learned that something that can only be mined/ISNM'd and doesnt drop off HNMs means RMT will skullfuck the shit outta it. Especially when you need 12 ingots to make 1 salvage body-piece.
