...so forgive me for asking, but can/how do you setup a PSP to be able to play PS1 games? I know it involves downgrading the firmware and installing a modified version, but I'm pretty much clueless as to how this works. I just got a PSP earlier today as a late christmas gift and want to be able to rock some of my classics while on lunch break. I'm not inclined to trust what google can give me, so I figure it's safer to ask here and find out what people recommend.

You need to get a Pandora's battery then you are NPNP all set.

He'd be SOL if he didn't know anyone else with a PSP . You can unbrick a PSP if someone else has a modified one.



On the topic of PSPs, you can use Xlink Kai at http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/ to play any Ad-Hoc game in Infrastructure mode (Final Fantasy Tactics and Monster Hunter Freedom 2, for example). I'm pretty sure it doesn't work with Windows Vista, though.

it's only a slim chance that your psp will brick. I downgraded some psp for my friends and they didn't brick. Even if you have a bricked psp, the pandora battery will fix it up nicely =]

IIRC: One of the original uses for a Pandora's Battery was unbricking systems. I don't think it's that much of a risk anymore given that.

its very hard to brink your psp, but when your done, its pretty much smooth sailing from there.

You could always buy a PS3, get the latest update, put PS1 games on there, and use remote play to play PS1 games on your PSP.

Of course, this requires buying a PS3, and using your PSP somewhere with an internet connection.

PSP-Hacks forums is where I've been going to figure out how to do different stuff with my PSP. I don't know anyone with a hacked PSP, and my Lumines should be here any day so I can get started playing with it. Tbh, I'm still a little confused, but that's mostly because I have a phat PSP and most of the threads now are about people's slims they got over the holiday.

Found out how to hardmod a PSP battery to make a Pandora one with little more then the awesome power of a razor blade and a sewing needle.

Reminds me of the copy protection Sony put onto CDs a few year agos that could be defeated with a permanent marker.
