    Discoid and Magus' Roll

    Can't find but one reference to this roll on the related forum (yes, through search) and it's just an unanswered question, so here it goes:

    Has Magus' Roll been tested against Discoid damage from Battleclad Charriot in Zhayolm Remnants? I'm aware of how Shell reduces the damage but i've never heard anyone mention if Magus' Roll affects it, or even if MDB does.

    Any information would be apreciated, thank you.

    MDB doesn't mitigate Discoid damage, but nobody has tested if Magus' Roll is MDB or TMDA that I know of. Obviously if it's the former it won't and if it's the latter it will, or likewise if it doesn't it's the one and if it does it's the other, so just answering one of the two questions should lead directly to the other's answer.     Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna bet it works more like MDB, but we'll give it a try and see how the expected dmg fits.

    Magus roll is Magic Defense Bonus+ like what WHMs get however it's very lackluster in this fight. I usually throw out other rolls here since I'm in a team of 6 and not everyone will get MDB+ but ever since the COR update I haven't gotten the chance to use it so I can't say for now but I would infer that it's still pretty lack luster. The MDB+ really isn't all that great in the overall picture.

    Suiram already stated it is worthless for this fight if it is MDB+ because Discoid ignores magic defense bonus, only Shell reduces the damage from it.

    Yeah sorry if that wasn't clear, anything that acts on that term in the damage formula, which includes both shell and damage taken / magic damage taken gear, should reduce it.

    Anyway did some preliminary tests for Magus's Roll just now with my friend, Chubbs. It definitely is MDB, and ranges from MDB+3 (unlucky #6) to MDB+25 (#11) without a BLU in PT. We had to stop our test after only a few rolls because I had to figure out the mob's MAB to make sure I was doing the calculations right, which took me a bit because the numbers for its INT weren't working out until I realized that the worms themselves had MDB+12, so hopefully sometime soon we'll go back and get the full range with and without a BLU in PT.

    Alright, thanks for the info ^^ Shame to hear it won't work though; we are still trying to figure how to fill up the 6th slot of the party for this and considering cor/whm heavily due to mnk's roll and evoker's most likely reducing long term damage vs MP wasted over time much more than other choices (other choices being whm/smn or blu/whm). If anyone feels like sharing some experiences on this guy, feel free to add them :3

    I'm not sure what your other 5 jobs are, but COR and WHM would both be beneficial, as would BLU for that matter. The times I've killed this with 6, it's always been 1. MNK, 2. MNK or WAR, 3. BLU or BLM (me lol), 4. RDM, 5. BRD, 6. WHM or COR or THF. For that 6th slot I'd probably rank WHM > COR > THF in terms of which made the boss easier, but they each have their own benefits for the overall run.

    Chances are we'll have more than 6 people really and expecting 8 for this fight but we are planing it as a 6 man fight. I can see possitive things with pretty much all those jobs, just have a hard time deciding what will be best =P Test and see, i guess.

    Get a BLM on top of those 5, or a DRK. If they can Stun good, Discoid isn't hard to stop and it's very nice when 0-2 Discoids go off during a fight instead of 3-10 (depending on luck). COR is another great choice as it'll obviously also cut the Discoids in half or better. Penance is win.
