Soul Calibur IV meets Star Wars

For those concerned, reviews are saying the PS3 wins in the technical department, though Yoda is apparently a better character then Vader (though the true strengths/weaknesses of characters don't come out til well into a month after release or so).

All the 1Up review mentioned for the "technical" stuff was that the PS3 has slightly lower load times due to the HD install, but mentioned that the 360's forthcoming update will allow for the same thing.

From what I've been reading the PS3 version has noticeably better graphics then the XBOX 360, hence me saying "technical" instead of just load times.

Worst game ever, they changed the input on Ivy's command throws, and it feels like they don't follow the old mechanics before of giving you large chunks of time between each direction input (read : Alot fucking harder to pull off now).

Seriously though, this game is great. Vader feels a little clunky, but it probably has more to do with not knowing how all his moves flow.

Vader doesn't excactly fall under the athletic type. He's a cyborg with force powers at best. He's not in fantastic physical health. Does he feel like a power character?

Also, I have the 360 version. Looks like it's gonna be good.

The story mode seems super extra weaksauce. 5 stages and you're done? No branching? Next to no narrative? I really hope I'm missing something here.

He feels kind of half and half between a power character and a Mitsurugi type, he does have a forward somersault kick attack though. I just ran thru story mode with him after spending 10-15 in training mode. He feels about as powerful as Siegfreid, but with lower range, though he does have a few force tricks to compensate (the choke obviously, and he has kind of a hadouken style unblockable, though anyone with a brain could sidestep it easily).

Character creation is really nice, though I wish there was an option to get the stats from Head armor/glasses without actually having to display them ):

yeah... why was Story mode even put in the game? seemed pretty pointless.
Algol was even a real weak boss. sazasel(sp) and Inferno were way fuckin harder. cheaper tho too.

ok... maybe it's cause I still have yet to get as good as I was at soul calibur2 agian, but The Apprentice more than makes up for Algol's easiness.

I wasn't going to get this, but the fact that my friend got it swayed me. I dunno why I buy fighting games, I'm generally not very good at them, and I never take the time to learn the nuances, but I really enjoyed SC1 and 2. I've mainly been messing around online, but I'm looking forward to the Tower of Lost Souls.

Also, I'm sure Vader/Yoda will be DLC in the future in their respective platforms. If nothing else, this should confirm it:

The apprentice is overpowered as far as I'm concerned at the moment. Sorry, but playing against him in arcade mode was complete and total bullshit. I'm sorry, did I just block your unblockable attack and hit you with an omnidirectional horizontal non force slash? Did you try and block my non force attack that wasn't a guard break, and it went through?

he is annoying. I 1st beat him with Vader. Love his grab. such a cheap ring out toss.

He's supposed to be a cheap bastard in Arcade mode but yeah, messing around with him in Training, he definitely feels a little unfair, especially with the speed at which you can pop out his lightning attack.

Among the normal characters, Xianghua (oh dear god @ the number of cancels she has, she is going to royally suck to fight against, every single swing is going to be a guessing game between a block or a throw break) and Nightmare feel like the 2 best to me so far. I still can't come to gripes with the new inputs for Ivy's command throws. I found the old "spin the stick 3 times" method works, but that's wildly inefficient in the heat of battle.

Clearning Arcade mode with Yoda gets you the apprentice. I agree with him being a bit over powered as his force attacks do a nice bit of damage w/o almost any time to charge up as a warning.

Story line feels rather uneventful, but the 'create a character' seems much more organized and detailed. Although the Trial of Souls or w/e (the tower?) can be annoying since I'm not sure exactly what all the situations are telling you what to do. Thankfully you can get the treasure chest and still lose.

I was surprised they overdressed Tira from the last game. everyone but her seems to be more naked in 4 than the other games except her.
