    Guitar Hero guitar question

Hey guys, I was just wondering if the PC and Xbox 360 guitars were interchangeable. eg, does the 360 guitar work on the PC and does the PC guitar work on the 360.

    Re: Guitar Hero guitar question

I was actually curious about this myself since I have the game for the 360, but I thought I could download it to my PC and use my 360 guitar. I havent found a way to make it work tho, maybe with the right drivers, but the problem seems to be that when you turn on ur 360 peripherals, the 360 controllers tries to find a 360 to bond with, an then assigned itself to control 1, 2, 3 or 4. Maybe someone here might have a solution, but just throwing in my personal experience.

I think the wireless controller for the 360 needs that wireless docking bay for the PC. I'm not really concerned about wireless, just the wired versions.

I have the PC version of GH3, and my guitar works on my friend's XB360. If I'm not mistaken, the PC guitar is just the XB360 GH2 guitar.

It uses the exact same Xplorer controller iirc.

Now, what I want to know if the game's controls are reconfigurable. I would rather use my Wii GH controller instead if I were to ever pick it up.
(for use on my laptop when on the go)

You can reconfigure the buttons for the keyboard controls, but not for the guitar controller.

I should point out that the PC version of GH3 has some issues. I run a Core Duo 2.6Ghz, ATI 512MB 2600XT, with 4GB RAM, and lolVista. This puts me well above the recommended specs for the game, however it doesn't run flawlessly. I turned off the crowd, dropped the resolution, turned off any other programs running on my PC, yet there are some backgrounds (the video shoot primarily) that cause the notes to not scroll seamlessly down the screen. It's not all the time, and it's often subtle, but it really sucks trying to play a rhythm game where the notes jump around a little.

I think you should update your drivers.. probably not an issue with the game.
My brother plays it on PC all the time, I've played it a bit, never have any issues with it running slow or notes jumping.
edit: His system is about the same specs as yours.

Anychance the keyboard controls have a mode where you hold a key and then hit another key for strumming? I can just map the Wii GH controls fine if that's the case, otherwise I'm screwed until I find a way to emulate a 360 controller. ;/

So I heard, waiting on the game to become dirt-cheap on PC (stand-alone) before slapping it onto my MacBook Pro, which also is above the game's specs.

Asypr are dumbasses for not including the 'last-gen' version (PS2/Wii) as well for lower-spec machines though, especially when they tote a laptop icon on the box when 90% of the current laptops are not even close to the minimum requirements.

The way the keyboard controls work is what you're looking for, if I'm reading you right. L-Shift, Z, X, C, and V are the keys for the default fret keys. R-Shift and / are up and down strumming. From there it's the same as using a guitar controller: Hold the fret you want, and hit one of the two strum keys to play it.

    Re: Guitar Hero guitar question

Ah, perfect, I was afraid they'd have made the keyboard play it out non-GH-controller style, where you just hit the fret as it shows, with no strumming involved.

I just need me something to kill time between classes at college....was thinking of purchasing a TV-tuner so I could just hook my Wii up to my laptop (which unfortunately requires a power outlet handy), and play it via that, but going right for the PC version (or Mac if it's actually optimized due to its extremely limited amount of hardware combinations, but I can bet $5 they'll screw that up also) is more conveniant.

What better way to kill time than bugging everyone else waiting on class via my constant clacking of my GH controller, trying to beat TTAFAF for the millionth time.

Yeah... my computer is a little better than that and it still skips bad sometimes. It's definitely not a consistent thing, but like sometimes you just gotta start a song over right away cuz it's all laggy and fucked up from the start, etc. Really annoying.

And the laptop thing too, when my parents were in town I tried to run it on both of their laptops so we could play around with it on the big screen, both are like $2k ish bought in the last year or so, and neither one would even run the game at all.

Lastly, yes, the 360 and PC guitars are the *exact* same. (wired versions that is)

About the playability on the PC...

I downloaded a torrent to see how well my PC would run GH3 and it runs great. My system = AMD 64 X2 6400+ (3.0 ghz dual core), 2 gig RAM, Nvidia 8600GT. I have all settings on high and run in 1280x720. I see no lag what-so-ever (finished career in easy mode so far using a keyboard ).

I think I'll pick up GH2 for the 360 and use that guitar for my PC version. Then pick up GH3 when I finally get a 360 so me and my fiance can play 2-player on the 360. Thanks for the responses guys!

Oh yeah, it's not like a consistent thing at all. You're running like literally exact same setup as me except mine's intel, same graphics and ram, same speed/level of processor etc.

It's just every now and then it does it, not a big deal at all.

Also, get Frets on Fire while you're waiting for gh3!

Plow, do you notice it happening more often on certain backgrounds? Like I mentioned, the video shoot on the back of that truck seems to have lag about 50% of the time for me, and every other background will lag closer to 10-15% of the time.

    Re: Guitar Hero guitar question

Video shoot seems to actually work fairly well for me, but sometimes it freaks out during the strobe crap.

Basically someone advised using video shoot or lou's stage for me and that works for the most part, the backyard bash is good too. Prison is terrible, umm megadome is ok but can be bad during encore songs, umm moose lounge has quite a bit of the strobe stuff too I think.

If video shoot doesn't work for you I'd say use Lou's, or backyard if you can't use Lou's at the time.

Also it's not optimized for dual core, you can try assigning it to one, but that hasn't made any difference for me.

Oh, also, if you're like on a run that you know you've got the 5 star if you can just recover from the lag, pausing usually works.

Did you apply the 1.1 patch?

My MacBook Pro is essentially the same (except with a core2duo Intel processor), hope it runs decently at least.

Anyone got an idea when a stand-alone PC version will come out at all? Tempted to just torrent it myself until that happens so I could use the online functionality.
(and possibly DLC if that ever gets patched in, as I doubt my Wii copy is getting that this year)

I've had it on the 360 since it came out, but will probably download it as soon as people start making their own songs like they did for GH2 on the PS2.
