WW was very big on the expendables and since expendables market is pretty much dead it's hard to make anymore gil out of it , though I still make a decent amount out of kabura arrows and cursed items but cursed items is also dying so... it's hard to make anymore gil out of this craft...

There is still money to be made in consummables, but the profit per synth is very slim, which means you have to make hundreds of synths for your effort to be worth money. On Lakshmi lately, 12x toolbag of shihei was ~290 gil profit...that's more than 3 stacks for 1k profit, not worth it IMO. And even if you're a fisherman and you craft your own ink, the profit is still not good when you take into account the time you spent doing boring synths.

Funny thing about shihei is it's often better profit (we're talking about 400gil per stack here) to buy non-toolbag'ed stacks, make toolbags at the NPC, and sell.

Kabura arrows are a great synth, it has always been a profit. Reason is simple : it takes a Ram Horn for each synth, which means you won't be able to spam it all day long because you usually can't store (or even buy) a hundred of these at a time :/

When I still did woodworking (100+6), I basically used it to repair my lu'shang while I was trying to get an ebisu rod. I fished up black sole/gigant squid that I sent to my cooking mule to make into sushi for money and at the time it was fairly decent gil.

I used the money from that to go after HQ staves, which also used to net a tidy profit if you had maxed out woodworking skill and moghancement. I'm not sure what the financial viability of staves are anymore though.

Unfortunately, easy woodworking money is pretty much tied with ranger. They nerfed ranger and although it has arguably improved over time to be close to its former stature, it still retains the illusion of being gimp or nerfed and hasn't enjoyed a 'flavor of the month' boom since. Fewer people using fewer arrows and bows coupled with the RMT's ability to just crank out ridiculous quantities of ninja tools makes it somewhat difficult to make gil from the easy synths.

My suggestion is to use woodworking and your appropriate subs as a crutch to allow you to make more common synths cheaper than others can.
