Question for Cooling My Laptop

Ok, i have an alienware laptop blahblahblah... Anyways, it runs very hot. Like literally, it hurts to touch the bottom after a few hours.

I use to run an external little window fan on it from behind to keep it cool, and it did the job for the most part. That is until it crapped out.

Now, I need something new and I'm looking for recommendations. Whats a good thing to use? Should i go back to a little external window fan behind it again? Should i get one of those cooling pads and put it under? And if so, what are some good cooling pads? Please help me out omg!!!

You'd probably need 3-4 of those, their RPM isn't very high.

Am I the only one who lets their 'can fry eggs' laptop left to fend for itself?

Anyways, if I had to use something, it would be one of those cooler-pads you can place your laptop on, albeit those add to the height you have to type at, as well as adding to the blow-dryer noise you get to hear 24/7.
(and needing a power outlet handy)

My alienware does the same thing and it pisses me off so bad. If you put something under it to elevate it that usually does it for me.

I use a targus cooling pad I got at walmart for $30~. has 2 fans similar to PC fans. Keeps my laptop 10-15 degrees cooler than using it without(tested with speedfan). It is quiet and very lightweight and it is powered through the usb port, unsure about how much power it uses since more often than not Im using it while hooked to an outlet.

If they're anything like the ones on my MacBook, you'll know when they're on. Seriously, the fans on mine get fucking loud at times, as if I had one of those old 56x speed CD-ROM drives in it and the disc was spinning full-speed.

As for actually checking them, you can always boot-up into the BIOS after a long gaming session and check their RPM no?
(I've not found a Windows solution yet that works with my laptop)

Sell it now. Fast... I payed like 3 grand for an (Illegal)Alienware. *call it that because their tech support cant speak fucking english... Well anyways, they told me that laptops run hot and its nothing wrong with it, while I was on the phone it blew the CPU and fried, somehow it only had a 30 day warranty... so I have a big expensive fucking paperweight and some spare parts for my new HP that is just as fast and only cost me 900 bux

According to this list, water seem to be the best choice to cool your laptop. Just need to plunge it in cold water when it's getting hot.

Got the cooling pad, works so great and does all the cooling so laptop fans rarely need to kick on anymore.

I use a serrated TV tray. I turn it upside down and have my laptop sitting on top of it. It allows for air circulation from underneath, and keeps the bottom from getting too hot. It has the added benefit of elevating my laptop two inches or so off the table, which is good for any spill type emergencies. Though I try to keep glasses/bottles/foods from my desk, other people in my life never seem to care about that.

I had a huge heating problem with my Alienware Aurora, It weighs so much that it has broken 3 cooling pads that were all mainstream brands, so I decided that I didn't care what the price was and that I needed the best.

I did about 2 hours of research for a good one and I came across a unknown company named Zalman. Every forum I went to that had cooling pads for gaming and high-performance laptops suggested Zalman, so I decided fuck it and bought it. It's been about 5 months since I got it, have not had one single problem, only other then my Laptop is a wide screen and this pad is a smaller then a wide screen 17". It doesn't overheat anymore, the pad is super-silent, it has an adjustable roller to decrease and increase its RPM. I suggest this pad because I've dealt with so many different ones and metal or aluminum is the way to go IMO.

I just have to ask, do you guys have really warm climates where you live, or do Alienware laptops just suffer from bad hardware-ventilation design? My MacBook just has the one vent on the rear underneath the monitor, and its yet to overheat on me, even during a 5hr Gears of War session (with everything graphical cranked).

They suffer from being a desktop inside of a laptop in terms of power and heat generation. Macbooks are designed well unlike Alienware. This is coming from someone who hates Macs.
