Aegis PLD's... Toss the Ethereal?

Can you reach stoneskin cap? I wouldn't doubt it, PLD has high enhancing O-o. If you can reach SS cap, then the mnd wont do you any good.

Finally a good thread in the advanced forum worth debating. Tricen beat me to the punch. I don't think 2 MND would effect stoneskin that much. I personally would keep Etheral, no other item like that in game.

Static Earring is a nice piece if you want it for the MDB (especially being an Aegis Paladin) any coral/merman's gear is completely worthless to you since basically you are defaulted at the cap for Magic Damage Taken -% as long as your WHM has Shell V (who doesn't nowadays anyway lol).

Ethereal would still probably be your best bet though.

I agree with what people are saying about using Ethereal in situations where you would want a MDB setup. If you arent going with a full resist build and are worried about MDB, you are probably going to be getting hit hard enough to get good returns from the Ethereal. It may not be as useful in situations where you dont take as much dmg, but I still notice the mp I get from it no matter how little. Changing it for something else never really crossed my mind, so I havent completely thought out what the other Apoc Nigh earrings may offer in its place. Even after reading the posts here, nothing really made me question my choice.

For the past few days I've been paying close attention to my damage intake, especially since I made this thread. At the moment, without having an aeres body yet, I'm going to stay with the Ethereal. I'm keeping it out of situational necessity , but not desire. I really want that +MDB/MND in one slot ;_;

My question is now this, for mainly wyrm plds out there. Ive been toying with non-resist builds now, focusing on MDB gear. The idea is to have a setup that doesn't rely on Bar/carols for low man shows. (I have full resist build, this is just for fun). For Tanks that use non-resist builds, whats your dmg intake look like? SSs would be awesome. I've got a solid idea of what is the perfect setup, but always doubt I'm doing the best I could be doing.

Ataractic Solea look pretty nice, but again pretty annoying due to the loldroprates for assault ??? item appraisals.
I guess an optimal MDB set for an Aegis PLD would include those Solea (+4 MDB), Lamian Kaman +1(+2 MDB), Lamia Mantle +1(+4 MDB), Shadow Ring/Unfettered Ring(+2 MDB) (since defending ring won't do anything for magic damage taken-% since you are already at the cap with Aegis/Shell V, Static Earring (+2 MDB), oh and yet another annoying assault appraisal gear (+2 MDB from Storm Turban). That would give you 16 MDB and your -50% magic damage taken from Shell V/Aegis.

I'm about 20 Silvers from Aegis, but I still imagine I'm going to keep my Ethereal, mostly because I still use /DRK for some stuff and Ethereal would still be useful for me. For your situation Tekki, it's a toss up. Depends on what you tank and what your priorities are. Interesting topic.

So I guess you would keep the Shadow Ring on (if you have one, thinking you do but not sure lol) and drop the Unfettered for Volunteer's Ring.

Seems to me that if you assume the two are relatively close in a good Pld/Nin situation, with a full support setting, that Ethereal is still going to win out in the situations where you may be /War, i.e. Dynamis, or some other events. Giving it a bit more usability.

I still used MDB setup on Ouryu. Its not the best setup since Im missing the annoying to get rare/ex items (Volunteer Ring, Storm Turban, Atar Solea).

Ouryu hits me for about 120 iirc. Been a lil while since Ive done it so I dont have SS's of the dmg. I tank it as PLD/DRK since we sleep/nuke it and it doesnt get to hit me on the ground. The amount of dmg I take in the air allows me to just spam cure4 myself whenever I want, but not to the point where MP becomes an issue.

This may be a bit of an exception due to it dropping from the same assault as Divisor Ring. Just find/convince people to spam that assault for rings and you'll eventually find some boots there in the meantime.

Honestly, if you have an Ares body and choose to use it over Valor, then yeah, Ethereal Earring is pretty much useless. I spam cures as much as humanly possible and still have 350-440 MP at any given time (6/tick without even getting Ballad, 2x March ftw), but like everyone has said a bunch of times before - shit is situational, and I can't really think of anything that I'd stick in the slot over Ethereal Earring, so whatever. (definitely wouldn't switch straight up because Ethereal is still awesome for /WAR, and JoL = ooooooooooh my God, 900 damage -ga spells are sexy for returned MP)

don't get their hopes up too much... those boots don't exist... period, they just don't.

anyways on topic:

ethereal has stayed on my ear even after i got aegis cause let's face it, there are no other earrings to trump it? 5 conserve mp... meh, 2 mdb? again meh. the other earrings can be swapped on/off for their slightly usefull niche's (buckler/knight's for shield, loq for FC etc.).

as for wyrm damage while using a MDB setup rather than resist, the attacks hung around he 120 range for me:

2 mdb rings, 3 mdb total for 11? idk been a while.

Apparently, they're actually rarer than or just as rare as the ring, we must've done 70'ish total runs before jumping the shark and so has a friend whose group went 1/72 or something on Divisor and I'm pretty certain neither of us has seen any trace of those shoes (the best things we've managed to appraise aside from the d-ring were 2 Orichalcum Rings, everything else was assorted crap unless you consider getting Evoker's twice a noteworthy occurrence).
