Chrono Cross after all that reading in my eyes feels like a much better game, even with all its shortcomings involving way too many useless characters. Hell, in the least its a damn good book that could be bound and sold.

Good read, reminds me of the grand old days of RPGs.
That part was pretty good (if the player played CT...otherwise, it doesnt make any sense), however, it only last 30min and happen at the very end of game. You have a long part before where nothing important happen. Viper manor, antidote to save Kidd, ghost ship, monster town, 6 dragon island and the multiple sidequest for every character....that part felt so empty and last 30hours. Cronopolis is great tho, reminded me of Solaris in Xenogears. There was a ton of plot twist there, and area was really weird (save point factory, many ghosts..etc)

Lynx/Serge could have been a lot more interesting if Serge wasnt a mute douchebag with no personality. In my opinion, it really hurt the whole body swap plot, because he didnt seem to care about the whole thing. Crono was mute too, but the sprite still carried a lot more personality than Serge ever had (lot more emote), and the scene where he sacrifices himself was just epic.

Was still a good game, I beat it 8-9 times and got everything literally, but plot really fell short. Everything near the end is nice, but the world never captured Chrono Trigger feeling. It was lacking villains like Magus, a variety of different place that are all connected to each other (magical kingdom, destroyed future..etc) and more importantly, constant plot twist..

I liked the whole bit with Dario and their father and those two swords.
The Einlanzer and I forget the other one.

Glenn getting dual Einlanzers as a result was a bonus.

I thought a few of the side-quest stories were really cool, although they didn't really tie-in well with the main story arc, and there were too many because they had so many characters, honestly, I can remember a part I really liked where some of my characters did a little 'concert' deal and then I ended up going to Marbule and cleaning up a bunch of monsters... unfortunately due to all the rest of the characters/story arcs that I had to pay attention to I can't even remember all the details or most of the characters who were invovled's names. (All I remember are Nikki and Fargo... and that sage from Marbule)

I do remember the music from that 'concert' really well though.

EDIT: I feel really silly because I remembered the Einlanzer but forgot the MASAMUNE. D'oh!

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Nostaglia...

Only thing that was left a mystery in my mind was what was the deal with Ayla's mother. As far as I can remember and from this thread, there was no time travel involved so how indeed did she end up in Surge's time? When you beat Lavos with her in your party, she mentions that she decided on a name for her daughter and says it'll be Ayla. I never did understand that.

    Surge, Ayla's mom, and Glenn = <3.

Also, the part when Robo was shut down was really emotional.

Cross was a really confusing game. Fate, the Dragon Gods, and I believe one more thing that had hold over destiny.

I think it was just a tribute to Trigger much like Glenn was a tribute to Frog.

Re: Quick Chrono Cross question. Read if you remember it.

I'm a huge fan of the Chrono series in general but definitely feel like Trigger was the superior game. Both games had an excellent soundtrack (I really miss good RPG soundtracks, licensed music and bad voice acting makes me a sad panda), both had an engaging storyline and memorable characters and scenes. However, I remember reading somewhere that Chrono Cross was never completed as intended (a little like Phantasy Star III maybe) and was rushed to shelves for one reason or another. After I read that it made a lot of sense to me. The main storyline followed it's course well enough (though I was never a big fan of the, "Oh by the way it's Lavos" end) but if I remember correctly there were a lot of story threads that just never went anywhere. Sidestories that trailed off and characters who seemed like they were going to have more depth and just never did.

I'd love to see a third.
