right click > properties > uncheck read-only > press OK

It was actually my virus-scan program that was blocking it. I get the disable read-only message as soon as I start typing into the file.

Some anti virus will stop you editing the hosts file because an old trick used by virus writers was to edit the file and basically attempt to prevent your computer from connecting to symantec.com etc so you couldn't update your virus definitions.

Just disenable your AV, then edit hosts file, reenable AV, play.

Best song I've done so far was Mono Ninja: Circa Survive "Semi Constructive Criticism". So good...

I think any song you really enjoy can be fun on audiosurf, it's just a matter of finding the correct "man" to use when driving. Like for slow songs I think Mono Pointman might be best.

I got it working (before it went down), played one song on the monotone easy mode then skipped right to the ninja elite mode (my excuse for sucking!). Track seemed to fit pretty well to the song If it isn't obvious from the low quality, the road was bumping up and down for the entire song. I think I like the easy mode better though...get to enjoy the songs more.
