I used to think I could get away with not having a credit card up until a few years ago. I wouldn't have been able to get my apartment without a credit card/good credit. After having my credit card for 3 years my credit is high enough that I could walk off with a new car without putting a down payment. And I think I have something like a $90,000 limit with my card company.
