Boot from cd: Disk Boot error

So my new power supply came in and it's booting now, with a nice sounding single post beep. Problem is that I can't get it to boot up my xp cd.

    Things I've done:
    1) Checked setup and have cdrom booting first, HD second, nothing third (no floppy drive or second cd/hdd)
    2) Verified xp cd is working, put it in another computer I have and restarted, it attempted to install xp on that computer from boot.
    3) Changed jumper in cd drive to slave, it was master thought that might do something.

My computer specs can be found viewtopic.php?f=36&t=27808&start=30 halfway down the page, got the PSU Mootsfox suggested before my computer spec post.

Try setting the optical drive to cable select and in bios to auto.

Shouldn't the jumper on the CD drive be CS (Cable Select)? I forget now... and I'm too lazy to crack open a desktop at work to see how they're set.

    EDIT: beaten by Shen!

Set drive to cable select and there was no "auto" option in bios so left that cd > HD and got the same error. Going to take a cd drive out of another computer and see how that goes, will check back for more ideas if/once that fails.

Yeah problem was the cd drive. Took a DVD rom from my moms computer (she has cd-rw and dvd rom) and it's working, partitioning and stuff now, woo. Have had a couple weird reboots and such, but I'm hoping that has more to do with the OS install than my computer.

    Triple post ftw...

Ok so it's booting up and going to install, but fairly often the speaker is letting out some rapid beeps. Time between this happening can be seconds or minutes. Also I keep getting error's about certain files and cannot find, as well as the computer rebooting on its own without any prompt whatsoever. Is some of this just standard windows install issues (I think some of them are but dunno if all are) and what issues might I need to resolve?

I wouldn't worry about the speakers until you get into the OS and can update all your drivers and whatnot.

It shouldn't come as any surprise that a clean Windows install requires a lot of reboots. I do remember it usually warning you that it would reboot the computer in X seconds, but normally I just let it go and don't pay attention much. See if you can get into Windows, perform all Windows updates, and get all your drivers installed. If you still have problems before or after that, post what the exact problem is and we'll help you out.

errors about files not being found during an install can be quite worrying...

Did you check whether your board/hdd need additional RAID/SATA drivers to be installed at the beginning of the XP install?

Still haven't gotten through install. After checking my RAM (took out a stick and tried only one, then the other, etc.) and that not being the problem I talked to a friend, who said it might be a thermal problem. I checked the heatsink and put it on more securely and made it through the first setup (with the BSOD-like backround) but have yet to make it through the actual install. We've reasoned it is most likely a heating issue as I didn't get a thermal compound, going to go buy one at Best Buy now.
