He's not retarded, he's one of the most charismatic males in the country, which is the reason he was successful and still is successful despite all the bullshit people give him about Scientology. He is just like any other person caught up in a religion people don't view as correct. He doesn't see what's wrong with it because he surrounds himself with other people who see nothing wrong with it. Also, I doubt anybody has the balls to go to Cruise and just say "here let's talk about Scientology" and even be remotely successful in the endeavor. He'd shoot you down much too quickly.
