Would you pay at least $1799 for this? This is the newest toy from Apple announced at the annual Keynote speech.
Seems chique, but overpriced in my opinion.

overpriced goes hand in hand with macs doesnt it?
Won't buy it, but 5 hours battery life is sexy... I can only wish normal UMPCs can last that long.
I'm confused - it doesn't look like it has any firewire ports...
nor does it have a built-in cd/dvd drive.
Thin is nice, but if they have to strip everything out of it, fuck that.
I paid $3k for my MacBook Pro, and there's no way in hell I'd pay half of that for a laptop that's (from what I heard) weaker than their low-tier MacBook line-up.
That laptop is too thin for its own good, I'm curious if it even has any ports on it, as its most redeemable feature is the fact it's under 2cm thick......would be hard to put a secured USB port on the side.
a gimmick, nothing more.
Is it that time of the year again for Mr. Crazy to speak again?

I'd love for my laptop to last 5 hours on a battery...I don't think mine goes for even half that.
The thing looks like it'd break the first time I dropped it though. I like having a really durable laptop, even if it's a lot heavier. Looks like it only has 1 USB port too, and I always use two.
I'd probably buy it if it floated like in those first pictures though 8)
I couldn't really visualize how thin it'd be just from the specs they gave, but this pic put it all into perspective.

..................I don't even think my fingertips could get into the gap between the lid/body to open the damn thing.
i bet you could snap it in half
looks like... a cardboard![]()
It has a remote disc reader function which allows you to read the discs on other Mac or PCs wirelessly.Originally Posted by archibaldcrane

(more-so when you could do that already with a network, no need for a special function)
The thing's just likely to turn-out to be a stupidly expensive pretty-thin portable music/video player and that's it.
Don't forget web browser. You weren't planning on downloading anything anyway, were you?Originally Posted by Kaisha

That is hardly a good reason not to like the Air. Besides, what else is any laptop besides a thin portable music/video player and occasional game player. The people who buy laptops out of necessity are business men who need that kind of mobility, if you're buying a laptop to run like a PC you're buying it for the wrong reasons, cuh!
The 64 GB SSD costing an extra 900 bucks pushing the laptop to the 30 bill range is what makes it hurt. SSD drives are the shit but 900 dollars, CHRIST.
Can it play WoW? I'm looking for a new/easily portable gaming computer to bring with me to and from random places. I'm never sitting at home long enough to get too much into console gaming, and my DS/PSP are the only time I really get to play videogames since i'm out so much. Having an easily portable WoW player seems kind of cool.
Easily. But then again, unless you're loaded and want to impress with the thinness you'd be much better off buying a cheaper laptop which is still thin, just not as awesome as the Air. Don't impulse buy such an expensive laptop lol, it's cool but definetely not worth the 3k you'd have to spend to make it worthwhile.Originally Posted by Deejay
Also, if you can wait I'm sure the Air will become much more efficient once Mac can get it's hands on a larger HD:
So we can expect to see some cheaper smaller drives like 80GB or 160 GB if this is true within the next year or so.Originally Posted by Wiki'd: SSD
Nah, probably because I'm not trendy or gay enough to have one ;o Kinda paradoxical because I paid 2k+ for my Vaio VGN-Fe790G more than a year ago. But it has the potential to last me for a long tiem for my university, web surfing, etc. needz:
* Weighs 6 lbs.
* 15.4-inch (Video Messaging Ready)
* Wide screen LCD with XBRITE-ECO technology
* 1GB DDR2 RAM- Expandable to 2GB
* 160gb hard drive
* Measures 1 inch deep x 10 inches wide x 17 inches long
I bet my friends came because they are huge apple fans (the annoying ones, maybe that's why I'll never get one) and I bet they're having a blast in San Francisco, godamn school :O
Buy a $500 laptop then.Originally Posted by Deejay
