I'm guessing apple is getting way too predictable:

I think a lot of people bashing on this are missing the whole point of a "sub notebook." Apple is far from the first company to sell a small laptop sans optical drive and/or other ports. The Air is one of the few sub notebooks that actually has a full keyboard and screen, which in and of itself is pretty nice.
Its meant for rich business people who want to have a spiffy computer to take literally everywhere they go, and doesn't weigh very much so it won't be bothersome. This is for the guy who has too much fucking money and wants to check his email but hates the tiny screen on his blackberry.
You just don't buy a sub notebook for hardcore video editing so the firewire is moot. Nor do you probably want to buy one for gaming, either. Honestly you just have to look at the target audience instead of assuming all computers should be designed to fit every single role imaginable.
My reactions, in order, were "Holy shit thats thin!!" followed shortly by "LOL 3000 dollars fuck that!" If I had the money, hell yeah I'd buy one. Ironically enough I use my Powerbook G4 12 inch for similar "light" purposes; reading email, taking notes in class, listening to music, etc. The Air would be a *perfect* replacement for that purpose because it would weigh less and take up less room in my backpack. If I want to do anything more intensive than those tasks I sit down at a real fucking computer rather than trying to do shit like edit video on a little 12 inch screen.
Edit: Oh and fucking lol'd at charging $20 for the Touch update. Seems like every time ol' Steve has one punch in the dick to serve, like the iPhone ringtone ripoff.![]()
It dropped after last year's Macworld keynote too. It will drop for a day or two then skyrocket. Then it will peak way too high, drop a little as the market recovers then plateau until the next major announcement.Originally Posted by Jedimasta

Sadly true. I can't see myself ever going back to a PC. Now using Boot Camp is a whole different thing >_>
I just can't see how anyone in their right mind would pay 3k for something with out a CD/DVD drive on it, not to mention you could probably easily snap the damn thing in half. I mean w t f. Sure I can use another computers CD drive, but why not just fucking use that computer then??
Yeah, Yeah, I read what you said about it's for people with too much money etc etc... People pay money for dumb things, then theres shit like this. I dont understand it's like going backwards in time. I'm surprised it doesnt have a floppy drive on it. BUT THAT WOULD BE TO THICK DAY DURR.
I honestly don't get what people's obsession with DVD/CD drives is, I practically don't use any mine. Everything is an image stored on my media box, add daemonTools and you have as many CD drives as you want. I think apple is just ahead of the curve on this one.Originally Posted by Day
I am going to have to agree. A majority of the software these days can be purchased on the internet. Even video games thanks to Valve's awesome shop. Now they just need to make Orange Box for Mac and I'll be happy.Originally Posted by Sess
Idk, maybe music CDs, DVD's, making audio CD's, Data CD's, installation of software that's not available for DL. Speaking of online installations/downloads; some of us, live in area's where DSL barely reaches... it took me 30 hours of DLing to be able to play Portal, after I paid 45 bucks for the game at the store. Fuck that noise.Originally Posted by Sess
I dont think anyone is obsessed, I'm just saying CDs and DVDs are currently the common media, so if I'm going to pay 3K for a "sub notebook" in the first place, it damn well better have a friggin DVD drive on it, as well as make my coffee in the morning.
Makes the Sony TZ series look overpriced.![]()
Why do people keep saying 3k? The starting price is listed at 1.8k.Originally Posted by Day

Better?
Much. Thank you.Originally Posted by Day
You don't invest 1.8k into a laptop like this and get a shitty moving HD, you upgrade to the SSD which at the cost of 16 GB gives you amazingly fast I/O and read/write speeds. It also allows for instant boots because of the lack of having to spin the HD to it's start. Also, a moving hard drive in a small laptop like that will most likely fail if it's dropped at all, so you're really running the risk if you don't just upgrade to the better HD.

Obviously fake but if Apple catches wind, its gonna go up on their store and sell out.
lol, that's great
