    If a bunch of drunken hunters had shot some eagles I might have found this more amusing. Unfortunately animals dying cause they were hungry in the middle of winter (in Alaska no less) doesn't strike me as cause for edgy political humor.

    Getting the Franklin reference right might have helped salvage it...oh well.

    He did get the Franklin reference right.

    He said "Take that, Benjamen Franklin" because Franklin didn't think the Bald Eagle represented America. This story proves he was wrong.

    Think people are taking this too literally.

    The eagles, america, gorged themselves on filth and disease and got trapped by it. Being trapped in it is part of the metaphor.
