At 80% Haste the difference in Delay between this and Algol is only 20, and you'd need 9-hits to 100% TP rather than 6-hits to 100% TP so it's not even good for that.Originally Posted by Raen Ryong

Very random question, but here goes. What does the Diamond Quadav say (text) when you aggro/defeat him? What do Bakgodek/Gulool Ja Ja/Gurfurlur/Medusa say when they aggro/engage? (In the strongholds, not Besieged/Campaign.) I didn't see this on either wiki and figured it'd make nice trivial info. for the BGwiki.
I've never changed nation before I am planning to soon to do other 2 nations now, but what happens to the CP I have earned in sandy is it A) lost, B) Saved for when I return, C) Transfers and Can be used at New nation, and D) other?
Ranger questions (RNG<75) :
Besides Dusk Trousers (Racc+10) what other leg gear would be good? The only other option I see outside of anything requiring serious end game commitment is the Pahluwan Legs, which give STR+3 Racc+4. Anything I might be missing, or is that about it?
It might just be me being lazy, but is Kriegsbeil worth it? Could I not just stick in a Trailers Kukri with a Fransisca and use more Ratt/STR in other slots? Guess I'm trying to avoid the 650k price tag if it's going to give me very minimally better results.
Does the Pahluwan Khazagand's "Increases critical hits" effect affect ranged attacks?
Optical Hat useful/necessary for Ranger? I just don't seem to see a lot of people with them, or maybe I'm blind. And Racc is so easy to get in other slots anyway.
How valid is SAM as a sub from 70-74?
Also, can someone please clear up this whole STR v. Ratt thing, I've been told different things from different sources almost constantly. Which is better per increase, and about how many STR are equal to 1 ratt increase? I realize that WSes are different, but maybe an explanation of that is in order. Yes, I have read that link of formulas about attack and str effecting damage twice, and apparently I still don't understand it correctly.
Also, side question: do you think farming 7 aern organs would be easier or harder than soloing 10 phuabo?
P.S. Sorry for playing 20 questions, but I really don't know any dedicated rangers in game who can help me with this stuff. I tried to do as much research on my own as I could.
Leveling a 54 DRK with 8 axe merits and 4 great axe merits, just got access to Rampage. My question is: Should I use axes for the better WS, or great axe for the 2-hander bonus? My static's setup is a little awkward so I usually get pushed into subbing /NIN anyway. If I was able to sub WAR or SAM, would that make a difference?
(Or Scythe/Great Sword for whatever reason, I plan on using Scythe once I get access to Guillotine regardless.)
P.legs are about the best you're going to get.Originally Posted by Ryushii
Kriegsbeil is nice, but not necessary. Go with Vulcan/Fire Staff and Axe grip or axe/knife.Originally Posted by Ryushii
I can't answer your question there as I've never owned it or bothered to look it up, but if nothing else, it's not the same old Jerkin or Jupon you've probably been staring at the back of until you get Osode.Originally Posted by Ryushii
It is helpful in a few situations, by no means a must have. You can always swap out a STR ring for a behemoth or merman's and put the relatively cheap and easy to obtain Wyvern Helm on. Or not.Originally Posted by Ryushii

AFAIK 2 STR still equals 1 r.att. I'm mostly retarded, so I still go (as far as r.attk vs STR is concerned) r.att > STR for tp, STR > r.attk for WS.Originally Posted by Ryushii
Would you say Dusk>P.Legs then? Or get both and use P.Legs for WS if I have enough acc already?Originally Posted by Jakson

Raising STR may increase fSTR, and raising RATT may increase Pdif. You can see that Pdif is a damage multiplier whereas STR just adds to damage; assuming you are not capped on STR, each 2 points of STR will add 1 to fSTR on ranged damage (not true for melee!), generally speaking.
However, raising Pdif is not such a linear process. I don't know how much depth you want to this answer to, but suffice to say that sometimes adding the same amount at "X" value of attack will do nothing, but adding the same amount to "Y" value of attack will have a significant effect. Generally, I'd take STR on RNG unless there's a significant chunk of ratk you can put there instead.
WS damage formula is
((D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP) * Pdif
Where WSC = Weaponskill mod
fTP = TP modifier
Now, since the weaponskill mod benefits from STR in most cases, you can see how adding STR increases both fSTR and WSC in that formula, so you can see why they call it a "double benefit" or suchlike.
Tl;dr: it's impossible to give a "x STR = y RATK" because of the nature of the pdif function. I would just use STR where you can't get a lot of RATK, and don't let your RATK fall too low.
Excellent answer, but I'm sure he just wants to know whether he should use Rutter Sabatons or Scout's Socks.

Is there a way to determine a monster's approximate evasion if you know its level(and that it is/isn't a Thief)?

As for your evasion question, I believe by setting up a situation similar to checking a monster's defense, you can determine it's evasion.
If you don't know how to do that, it's quite simple. Basically, bring a lot of acc+ and acc- (depending on your naked acc and the mob you're checking) gear, and play around with that gear until you get simply "The mob seems to have XXX defense" with no mention of evasion. That means that your accuracy and its evasion are approximately equal. Looking at some formulas on http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Check, an enemy checking low evasion has 10 or more less evasion than your accuracy, so the next step is finding at what accuracy adding/taking away exactly 1 accuracy point switches the /check between low evasion and no mention of evasion. Then, you know that the accuracy it takes to check low evasion minus 10 is the approximate evasion of the mob.
Keep in mind that you have to include any natural accuracy on the character, from stuff like DEX, weapon skill level, job traits, etc. Adding all that up plus the equipment accuracy should give you an approximation of how much evasion a mob has.
This should work, but it's late and my brain might have made all this up. Hope it's helpful/clear!
Edit: I wrote all of this out and then reread your question haha. Just by knowing it's level, I think there's an application on FFXI Calculator that gives approximate evasion. I lost the link to it though...Maybe google search haha?
Well, I knew all of that, I was just looking for a way to just like.. Get a ballpark estimate by knowing the level of what you're fighting. But the extended explanation is appreciated.

Anyone know how the exact formulas for Cure 1-4 work as far as exceeding the soft caps?
I'm interested in how the 360 HP soft cap of Cure IV is exceeded... Is this all Healing Magic Skill? MND or others? Is there an exact formula?
Thanks!
The section on BGWiki and the link in the "Further information" section I've found to be very informative. http://wiki.bluegartr.com/Cure_Formula
