If you're using string, the song radius is some function of your string skill (I think) plus the difference between your level and the level of the song (this part is certain). Lower-level songs will have massive range, while something like Mazurka will unfortunately be far smaller (though I still cast it with Angel Lyre). So yeah, the difference in a level 25 song and a 55 song is defintely noticeable.

    1) So, I was looking through the NPC/mob lists of battlefield areas (I wanted to see if they all had 3 copies or if some were different), and I noticed something weird for Navukgo. There's a Pudding Master or something (not on PC with POLutils atm) next to 6 Immortal Flan (the mobs spawned for BLU AF2) for each copy. I've only heard of 1~2 flan being able to spawn. Is it possible to bring a whole alliance to that fight? That would explain the 6 Immortal Flan, but not sure about the other flan.

    2) Can you call a regular fellow and a beastman hat NPC at the same time? Also, can you call them in the past or areas regular fellows can't? Like battlefields, the Near East, etc.

I'm pretty sure you can bring an alliance to the Blue Mage AF2 fight. I vaguely remember people talking about it when the AF first came out, though nothing about Pudding Master.

Be very sparing with sleep. And yeah that's about it.

I think there's a "master" mob for whenever one mob can spawn multiple copies depending on the number of participants. For instance, Uninvited Guests dats has "Mammet Master" preceding the nine Mammet-800s.

When I lvl'd RNG at that level range (47 RNG now), I used Mithkabobs (had leftovers) for cheapness and Rice Dumplings the other times. I think Dhalmel Pies should be ok too. All these options are cheap.

    Gekko->Yuki->Kasha->Yuki->Kasha->Gekko

Drop the initial Gekko if you want to only do 5 steps.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

I'm out of the RNG picture quite a bit. I quit at 73 two years ago, and I'm pulling it together now to finish and have it as a reserve job.

With that said, I need some input. Is axe/axe/archery (Kreigs/Franny) still okay for exp? Should I go axe/axe/gun and melee/shoot then slug shot? Or should I stand back with axes and fire arrows? Switch to staff/grip? (Let's assume the common Colibri or Mamool camps here.)

Also, I see Fire Staff/Axe grip is a pretty common thing now in general, but entirely with archery. I realize it's a +7/8 STR in a two slots we otherwise don't get it, but generally (please don't 'shit is situational' yet) is that better than a franny/krieg combo?

Basically, has the staff/grip combo outdone the old franny/krieg combo?

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

Depends how you want to play, if you want to get to 75 without paying too much from your pocket stick to what you have now and do it cheap. If you want to be busting 2k+ Slugs/Sidewinders I'd recommend going /war or /sam to merit/exp with a BRD + COR combo (thats the only way I merit atleast). Berserk is huge on RATT+ it was making around 150 damage difference when it was on or off for my 75 RNG. Unless you have a Kraken club I'd advise against meleeing for TP as your Ranged Attacks will typically gain faster and do more damage than Dual wield Axes. And if you are going /war or /sam you should be using a fire staff + axe grip combo for that added STR/RATT.

Bottom line: If you have the right PT setup and the RACC do Fire staff/Axe Grip for the big numbers with /war or /sam. If don't feel comfortable with /war or /sam go /nin melee / shoot for TP and back up for your Sidewinders/Slugs. If you want to be cheap and conserve gil meleeing will save you ammo but you won't necessarily be the number 1 DD in your party.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

I've reinvested back in the job a bit, so I'm not gimping it up to 75; although I don't have any of the r/ex nomnoms I could have - AH-only at the moment. (Well Pala.Pants soon; spamming mamool for that.)

So *basically* it boils down to safe /NIN+Axes+archery, or suicidal but fun /SAM (or /WAR)+Staff+Grip+Archery? (Obviously adjust for situation, etc.)

I'm also not a kclub RNG, so that's that idea out the window. Does that means gun have lost their place short of kclub? I always heavily favored archery leveling (There was a cost factor since silvers were ungodly expensive even compared to demons, but goddamn I loved staying out of AOE range during imps and other nasties.)

As for meleeing with axes, one playstyle I saw not too long ago was a Axe+Gun RNG, that would melee a round, then immediately fire, melee, fire, etc., until he had TP to WS, then he'd move back to 4~ and slug away. Sorry if I wasn't clear, I didn't mean engage, afk, and then come back when I had ~130+TP for slugwinder.

with a BRD + COR combo (thats the only way I merit atleast)
I also do not have said luxury, and probably never will. :\ Well, maybe one or the other sometimes.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

/WAR or /SAM isn't really unsafe its just you better have the PT setup to pull it off, because when you WS on birds you will have hate till they die. Shooting for TP isn't out of style I guess its more or less your preference on how much gil/damage you want the job to throw out there. /SAM is relatively safe if you know how to use seigan and third eye wisely, and hasso is a nice STR boost. The good thing about /SAM is you can hit a 5 hit build w/ a Selene's Bow without Rajas I believe. So 5 Ranged Attacks + TP is decent damage. I think you can also do the same w/ a Helfire also. Since you are Taru I'd personally recommend you go the route of Marksmanship since you will get the most benefit of your higher AGI on Gun WS. Bow's typically need larger amounts of STR to do the good numbers and thats something most Tarus are lacking. Your questions are kinda vague though because essentially you are asking "Whats the best way to play ranger?" when it ultimately boils down to personal preference. Particularly, what you want to do with the job, what gear you have / can afford and other factors like whats going to keep you interested in the job etc. Thats just my thoughts atleast.

Not going into the DMG topic of RNGs subjob choice, but about the safety one.

/NIN is for lazy people, that don't want to bother paying that much attention, or for shitty parties in general (talking about merits only). Colibris are pushovers, maximum PF I've had is like 500 and that was as drk with LR and Onyx Cuisses (+14% dmg taken) on.

If you time your Seigan/Third Eye properly and with Hasso, it shouldn't be an issue to take hate, unless you blantanly pull the next mob with a SW when you have 20s left on TE.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

I'm not a RNG, but I really can't think of a good reason not to be /SAM over /NIN for most situations past 70.
Hasso isn't especially powerful for ranged attacks, so seigan fulltime is easy to do.
You have time after pulling hate to get a third eye up.
You don't need shadows for AoEs because you don't have to be in AoE range.
Store TP seems pretty amazing for RNG, as does Meditate.
You shouldn't need the absolute reliability (though Seigan's reliability is pretty damn good) of /NIN because if you pull hate, you probably slugwindered. If you slugwindered, the mob should be dead in a few seconds if it isn't already.

So I'm not sure why /NIN is on the table.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

Anyone know where I could find a list of the zone .dats? My google and bluegartr search skills have proven inadequate.

I believe my Tahrongi .dat has been corrupted, I teleported there after Limbus to cash in my Omega's Hind Leg, and as soon as the zone began to load, POL crashed. File check hasn't fixed the problem.

    Any help is appreciated.

So the other day and today ive been killing fishies (hpemdes) for nq organs, and literally went about 5hrs with no drops, not even crystals, well actually, one light cluster.

Im killing the Om's back on the right side where prud is, I also tried the far left side. Do all fish have really crap rates? or maybe the ones in the tele areas have better.. or?

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

You'd think RNG/NIN with the two axes would be a little better on an unmerited RNG opposed to a merited until they were merited?
