Can anyone confirm that Lamia Toxophilite drop Lamian Kaman -1 in Caedarva Mire?
To all those RDMs out there with Vermillion Cloaks, what do your macros look like? I just blew 600k on this damn thing, I want to squeeze the maximum use out of it. I'm thinking something like...
/ma "spell" <t>
/wait [spell casting time minus one second]
/big ol' gearswap goes here
/wait [until one second after the spell goes off]
/swap back to Vermy here
Is that pretty much how it's done? I can't think of anything easier that doesn't sacrifice efficiency. If I'm not squeezing MP out of at least 3/4 the tics that go by I won't feel like the purchase was worth it.
Outside of XP merits you're likely to be casting so often that you might not be able to, I personally would prefer my max Fast Cast setup over being able to get 1/tick half of the time tops. If you have other jobs like SMN/SCH then it's handy, but I've always felt it's kind of meh for RDM. Otherwise depending on your gear, you might want to swap gear before the cast starts, for the casting time reduction on some spells.
What is a good number to aim for when building a fire and earth resist set for KS99 Wyrm and Ouryu Cometh, respectively? Assume carol and capped WHM barspell. I have heard numbers like +330 for things like Tiamat; just wondering if I can get by with lower than that for the fights mentioned above.
Also, Wyrm's flame blast move is single target, correct? I can't remember for sure from the last time I did the fight.
I'm pretty sure you want to try and hit 120 in gear, and around 300+ with total buffs. So people will claim you shouldn't touch Tiamat without 330-350 thought I think, I don't know about that to be honest. Heres a link to a post where I list what I used for Jorm.

I think I had a total of 140 total ice resist in gear.
Can a single BST solo Swift Belt NMs with 2hr'd Hecteyes and Reward spam? Would probably have to be the Elv NM.
Mmmm imho it's better to stack as much INT as you can when casting Bind especially on uber mobs. Best setup for that would be Aquilo's, Bugard Strap +1 or Ice Strap, Phantom Tathlum, Duelist's Chapeau, Enfeebling Torque, HQ Phantom Earring x2 or HQ Phantom and Enfeebling earring, AF1 Tabard, Yigit gages, Mahatma Cuffs, or Shadow Cuffs (yes, Shadow Cuffs HQ is one better too), Tamas Ring and Snow Ring or Tamas and Omega Ring, Altruistic Cape, Penitent's Rope, Nashira Legs or Mahatma Slops, Yigit Crackows, AF1+1 boots, or Avocat if you're a skill whore. With Chap it shouldn't make much of a difference though, INT will make your binds last longer.
I have heard of the Hume being done, dunno about the other races. I think what tends to be done is use a 2hr'ed pet to start, then run back to the entrance and rotate between lower level pets there. Can a single BST solo Swift Belt NMs with 2hr'd Hecteyes and Reward spam? Would probably have to be the Elv NM.
Yeah, Hume would be nice, problem is my main, both my mules, and most my friends are all Elv, lol. Other option would be using g/f to pop, but Taru doesn't sound much better.
I would likely be COR + BST for Beast/Puppet Rolls. I need this stupid belt but I really don't feel like dragging a bunch of people out to help or doing a full-blown run where I need to do a shitton of pops.
Can you use prepaid cards from a gas station to pay your monthly FFXI fee?
You know, to be honest, it does seem kinda meh the more I think about it. I was excited to finally get a refresh body, but now that I have one, it doesn't seem as useful as I'd hoped. Are Dalmy and Morrigan's really the only refresh bodies that are worthwhile on RDM?
And if I were to sell it back, what would you suggest getting? Here's what I've got so far:
Weapon: Aquilo's/Auster's/Terra's/Pluto's Staves, Mythic Wand
Sub: Bugard Strap +1, Numinous Shield
Ammo: Phantom Tathlum
Head: Gold Hairpin, Warlock's Chapeau, Errant Hat, Elite Beret
Neck: Spider Torque, Elemental Torque, Dark Torque, Beak Necklace, Promise Badge
Earrings: Antivenom Earring, Insomnia Earring, Geist Earring x2, Morion Earring x2, Moldavite Earring
Body: Blue Cotehardie, Warlock's Tabard, Errant Houppelande
Arms: Devotee's Mitts, RSE2
Rings: Electrum Ring, Ether Ring, Sapphire Ring x2, Diamond Ring x2
Back: Rainbow Cape, Lamia Mantle
Waist: Hierarch Belt, Penitent's Rope
Legs: Errant Slops, Vendor's Slops, Druid's Slops
Feet: Errant Pigaches, RSE2
Yes it's a big NQ-fest, I'm trying to upgrade stuff in the most efficient order, and most of what I have left is "Spend 200k for 1 more mnd/int/whatever." I had thought that a Vermy would be the next important upgrade, but now I'm not so sure. In order of slot, here's what's on my AH upgrade list:
Mythic Wand +1
Numinous Shield +1
Staff Strap
Hedgehog Bomb
Faerie Hairpin (until I get enough convert hp->mp gear to make use of Walahra, Faerie will rock that slot)
Enfeebling Torque
Morion Earrings +1
Communion Earrings
Astral Earring
Genie Gages
Devotee's Mitts +1
Serket Ring
Snow Ring
Aqua Ring
Prism Cape
Intensifying Cape
Forest Rope
Mahatma Slops
Prince's Slops
This list isn't including any ex gear (duh), tanking gear (not sure if I'll ever get into it), or melee gear (not a high priority). I did include nuking gear but it's obviously a low priority.
So yeah... if anyone has advice on what I should blow my gil on (600kish), or if people think I should just keep the Vermy, let me know please. Staff Strap is cheap and I really should have one by now, but I'm not sure what else to go for.
Enfeebling torque! And find yourself a Dynamis shell, RDM relic has a lot of useful pieces besides the rare and elusive Hat. And just something I notices in a lot of your "want list" you seem to be focusing a lot on MP do you really need that much MP+ gear or would you be better off meriting Convert recast? Anyways just my thoughts, Calli can probably offer you better constructive criticism but that just something I noticed.
On a side note, you shouldn't be ashamed of your gear! You are doing well with what you have and know that you have room for improvement which is a lot better off than other players can say.
Yeah, I was thinking about that... it's such an expensive upgrade but there won't ever be a better enfeebling piece in that slot, and I am a career RDM. We'll see, I did have one a while back when a friend quit and I loved it (he came back the next month, d'oh).
Thanks for the encouragement, I've been shying away from Dynamis because I want to be fully merited before I start but honestly, at the rate I grind I should just suck it up and find a LS lol.
Oh yeah and one more thing, get a friend who likes to duo mobs and is a Mage job or something like SAM/DNC and bring him up to sky. Soloing/Duoing Steam Cleaner, Despot, or Zip is a good source of income and something realatively fun/challenging to do when you've got some time to kill. Probably one of the biggest things that makes me want to finish off my RDM is the prospect of doing that but alas my merits/gear are built for tanking.
Yeah you're actually in good shape in terms of buyable stuff, remember it's not the whiteboxes always but how you put things together. I personally am limited by inventory and console macro constraints, so I try to consolidate my INT/MND gear in pieces that give the largest slots of both at the same time. I personally only carry full HQ Staves, I stopped doing the Wand + Shield deal b/c I have too much shit to carry alot of times(not just gear, triggers and such), ideally I would for things that I don't need staves on but meh. For similar reasons I just do Tamas + Balrahn's for about everything, more because I can't fit a second MND or INT ring into anything else macro-wise...this won't be an issue soon when I can pick up Omega Ring, thankfully.
And I agree with Tan about you stocking a lot of MP, not that it's a bad thing, but keep in mind that you only need enough excess MP to buff after resting and to Cure up after Converting, I personally aim to have about 200~ excess MP to burn before swapping into my normal gear, but that's just my opinion, others do it differently.
Other minor nitpicky things, I personally prefer the Wise Cap to the Elite Beret, you won't see a noticeable difference between the two in terms of landing debuffs, but the Wise Cap works well for Drain/Aspir/Absorb-MND, while Elite Beret does not. And when you're trying to eek out the best you can by whiteboxing, Mahatma Slops are fantastic until you can get in line for something like Morrigan's.
Nvm all set.
I checked the options and didn't see it, but just in case, is there a way to make text size smaller (closer to PHPBB size) on the new forums?
Thanks for the information. I might just spend the money on items for inventory expansion instead of a bunch of gear that would end up being +2 or 3 mnd/int for the whole 600k. I really need to focus on ra/ex gear soon, I've been putting off CoP and RoZ until I hit 75, but honestly, I should be able to do a lot of them at this level without being much of a leech, it's just an excuse lol. I'll probably stick to the MP gear just because I'm a damn Elf (wouldn't have chosen Elvaan for RDM but I planned on doing PLD when I started, d'oh), but I appreciate the insight.
Anyway, the price on V. Cloaks has jumped about 20k since I bought mine, net 14k profit after AH fees ain't bad heh.
