Calculated by singing skill + wind skill so basically you wanna wear whatever gives you the highest value in that spot.

    BST!

there's not much info on BST on these boards, but i'm interested in levelling this job for the hell of it and i have a couple of questions for anyone with it levelled.

i have 75 blm rdm brd fully merited as well as some other accounts with decked melee jobs, so job usefulness isn't much of a concern to me.

    1. would having a rdm & whm PL help me solo level BST quickly? yeah, i know it defeats the purpose of soloing, but i don't care about the grinding, i just want 75 fast.
    2. what "endgame" stuff do you (or would you) use BST for? limbus, znm, and assault in particular.
    3. do you think BST is any fun at 75?
    4. finally, should i do it?!

i have access to an e-body war and full usu mnk, so i'm not trying to be super DD - i just want to level an unorthodox job and BST looks interesting. i'll have access to pretty decent DD gear (aurum body, haidate, temp torque) when it's levelled, so take that into consideration. thanks for any input :D

Nothing about BST is going to be fun if you have a PL, let alone 2 of them

Only to the same extent that you could PL any other melee job. Played well, BST already has little or no downtime. PL'ing would just allow for increasing the BST's DD output some, which would save you some time, but not as much as if you could just get into good XP parties.

PL'ing to 35...eh, sure. Otherwise, bring your WHM for emergencies or raises.

    2. what "endgame" stuff do you (or would you) use BST for? limbus, znm, and assault in particular.
Very little. There are basically three reasons to use BST endgame:
    - It's your only job.
    - Because you really really want to, more efficient methods be damned (see: pet LSes)
    - You happen to be doing one of the handful of things that BST does better than anyone else (Xolotl, for instance).

You said it yourself, you have an E. Body WAR and an Usu MNK. There'd be no good reason for you to use BST 99% of the time.

    3. do you think BST is any fun at 75?
Sure, it's fun, or can be. But the thing with BST is that it's more the journey.

    4. finally, should i do it?!
Ehh, from what you're saying here I'd say no, but it's more up to you. BST is not a job to level for endgame results, because by and large, they don't exist. It's a job to level because you really like it and enjoy the solo experience on the way up.

It might sound like I dislike the job, but that'd be false. I put a lot of time and effort into it because I do like it and wanted it to work. Over time, it just became apparent that the effort was better spent elsewhere. The hows and whys are a much longer discussion, and involve a lot of finger pointing at SE =P

    This.

BST solo stops being zomgawesomexp at 73-74, there's no point in rushing it to 75, there are many fun exp camps in the middle-high levels (54+), and a lot to learn along the way too!
I've never been PLed or joined xp parties (well.. just once for 31-32), but sure I /searched for other BSTs around my lvl and teamed up with them (duo/trio/jugburn!) for lots of fun!

Isiolia pretty much said what I was going to say. BST is a trial 1-34, an occasional-use job at 75 (unless it's your only 75), and fun from 35-74. If it's not fun from 35-74, don't do it unless it's your last job for Maat's Cap. Rush to 75 on some other job; BST will just leave you saying "Why'd I do that?"

I will say that /BST can be nice for soloing certain jobs through certain level stretches...but I don't have any PLs, let alone 2.

I'm leveling BST at the moment to have a RDM/BST ready for Ouryu, that's the only reason I can think where BST would be needed for endgame.

However, back in the day when we used to still kite Kirin, BST was the mvp kiter. Charm every 15 seconds with the short bind on Kiring made kiting so much easier. Especially since Charm gives such a large chunk of CE. Yeah we didn't know about CE values at the time, but it became clear very quickly that our resident BST was able to cap out on a kited fight much much faster than any tank.

I don't know if there are any fights where that would be useful anymore. Might help in certain lowman situations /shrug.

My partner will definitely be blm but would we have an easier time if I came rdm or blm? And what would be the best way to take out the big guy once he wakes from ES sleep? I see some people mention wiping on purpose and resting up ES timer, others just kite whilst blm rests then ES silence and nuke away or some say just go crazy with ga spells off the bat
i go blm/rdm+blm/whm to it generally. sub whm on 2nd is just to have a spare raise on the way up if something goes horribly wrong, plus his enfeebles won't stick to save his life (no idea why either, his gear looks fine. just horrible luck i guess.) open fight w/ ES sleep2 on biggun and grav little one. kite it around the big circle area. the pathing in there is worse than horrendous. they take huge, colossal arcs to try to catch you, then you take 1 step to the side and they go off in another direction. it's sad. pummel him down with tier 4's. as you get off your 2nd set of nukes or so, be ready to stun since he loves to cure5 himself about then. stun that and keep shell off and he should go down before he can try to cast a 3rd spell.

aspir, go ahead and rest up, grav the big guy, and if you did it right, you should still have a chunk of MP and he should still be dozing. wake him w/ a round of t4's and beat him down. if you're shy on MP, put 1 round of tier 4's into him, then re-sleep w/ your other ES. he'll cure himself after he's been beaten up some, but if he's at 60%+ hp (rough estimate) he'll prefer to flash, shell, whatever. after you have MP back, finish him just like the first. easy as pie. oh, and the damn hedgehog bomb is a myth. i've seen one in literally dozens upon dozens of runs. usually walk out w/ a dragon bone and a middle finger in my face.

as for bst, a pl isn't a bad idea to 35. get a good jug pet, join an xp party, bring the pl along, and you might be surprised at how well you keep up on damage. most jobs don't have the gear or the ws that make them shine at 75 (no rampaging wars at that lvl) so your pet's dd output will not be insignificant. tigers make great pets, bunnies are OK. funguars are mean little bastards from 33 to 35. once you get leave, get a duo buddy and go take over the world. if you're wise about selecting camps, it's such a nice job. not as nice as before the djinn nerf when i got chain 7 solo on lightsday, but that's beside the point. ^^ just don't expect to use it that much.

Nin/Bst is actually a CE machine if you don't have to worry about charming your target, would have a few Killer traits too.

Friend of mine, I keep telling him he needs to make an LS, and call it slashBST, cause he levels everything that way, Dnc to 60, Sam to 50, Whm to 42, Blu to 75 (though he did have some Campaign in there on the Blu leveling grind), various subs after they get past the 37~40 beastmen pet grind, if he goes higher, he /Bst's it.

I myself got some practice with Bst tanking during that Feast of Swords event, War1/Bst1 with Defender, Retaliation, and Charm is a hate machine, and funny to watch.

RDM/BST works like a charm (lol) for Xolotl, can easily kill it with 3 rdms (2 /nin kiting adds) that way. (*'-')/

I wouldn't advise PLing yourself on BST. The whole fun of it is soloing your way up and then e-peening it up at 75. It's certainly doable 1-35 so don't listen to the horror stories lol. Now since they changed it so you don't have to Leave your pet before killing the mob it's even easier.

    1) I pl'd my own bst for a bit prior to 37. It was helpful at times but I quickly found myself only using it for the occasional raise

    2) As already mentioned, endgame Bst... well, its limited and if you have other jobs, theres often not much point to bring Bst. I can't really speak to ZNMs since I haven't touched them much but some are in areas with charmable mobs so I could see some potential.
Bst and /bst on Xolotl, as mentioned. Widescan is nice in a few assaults.. so bst or /bst if you don't have rng is nice.

    3) I still enjoy my Bst75, though I don't play it much. Exp isn't great but its still fun to go down to Bibiki with a bst or smn friend and murder some Catos. Also, I just soloed the Spiral Hell NM about a week ago. Took forever, like 1 1/2 hrs, but it was fun and challenging, imo.

    4) Up to you, but I'd say theres no point in rushing it to 75 since theres not much to do. I leveled bst in part to have an alternative source of merits (be it slower) without having to deal with idiots in merits. Though now you can just go to Campaign.

    1. Bst can already take out toughs or higher with the help of a pet. In the early levels though where hate can be a bit of an issue, a pl will help things go that much faster during them. Things do get better after 35 as people have said, and once you get to ToAU camps things go a lot faster too.
    2. Since my only level 75 job is bst it's pretty much the only job I use. I use it in Dynamis, and for any NM we take on. I don't do much endgame stuff though so I don't know it's use in other situations. The other thing to mention though is that I'm part of a pet-based linkshell. I don't know what server you're on, but there are quite a few pet-based linkshells around, e.g. Petropia (formerly Petropolis) on Bahamut, MonstersInc on Ramuh, TheFlock and so on. If you take a look at what they get up to, you'll see what Bst can do (although the setting is specific e.g. tankless and so on).
    3. I definately think bst is fun, or I never would have leveled the job. Bst has a fair few tactics up it's sleeve, and it's just as fun when subbed too although I find mage jobs benefit more fun wise.
    4. Get on with it. Level bst and join the ranks of so many others having fun with it.

there isnt much here i can say that hasnt already been said. but i'm going to say it anyway.
    1) yes. get a jug after 23 that (so it wont uncharm on you) and let it DD and you tank sub war or nin and just blow through stuff.
    2) i did everything on bst until i levelled other jobs. you just have to watch it if there are multiple mobs that do aoe's and then are subsequently slept (ie dynamis), cause your pet will go after them after the current mob is dead.
    3) hell yes. still makes the best farming job too, aside from thf of course. (jug pets at 75 are monsters against lower mobs)
    4) sure, if you are doing it for fun.

despot is also fun to 3-man on bst, and then wander over to the entrance of the shrine to find a whole LS fighting placeholders
also dont forget that there is a funny hidden effect on charm, it tends to work as for the level of your main on bst. ie a rdm/bst with bst levelled to 75 is going to have an easier time sticking charms than a rdm/bst with bst only levelled to 37. dont ask me why, but that seems to be the case.

thats real fun, i did that a few times. getting skadi boots would only make it more fun.

Is it possible to low-man einheinjar? We just starting to do them and only have 13-15ish pple ready for it. (is 13-15pple considered lowman?lul). What's the recommended jobs and PT set ups?

    PS: Our LS doesn't have HQ DDers nor HQ mages.... ><;

With a couple good DDs and a few pick up DDs we were able to clear out 12 Skeletons in ~15 minutes with 10 people - coulda done better but only 1 BRD was pulling since the other got locked out by accident. If you're looking to clear the first couple tiers I imagine you'd need ~15 or so good players, and a little more for tier 3/Odin? But I've never done beyond tier 1.

13-15 is pretty low for Einherjar imo.

Are you just farming for ichor? or do you want to kill Odin too? You could probably reasonably farm ichor with that number but if your people aren't really HQ it's going to be tough.

To do it you'll need really good sleepers (heavy on BRD in case you get a chamber of undead and make sure those BRDs get proper support or they'll drop like flies) . Your DDs should ideally be able to tank a bit as well as do damage. With only 13-15 people you really don't have the freedom to have people come "legit" tanks at the expense of damage. In your case I'd suggest trying to pick up a few extra people to fill in at least one alliance. I always hear about people who want to do Einherjar so I can't imagine it being too hard to find some extra.

    Good Luck!
