I agree with Amele's list.
1 point in Iki is nice for salvage if you have a foot or hand (whatever your storeTP slot is) but no ring or vice-versa. It will make your build work any time Zanshin procs.
I fully disagree with Wolfknight...Shiki is useful for:
-Starting a Limbus zone with TP (very nice for lesser #s). Omega included.
-Giving your paladin 300 MP.
-Giving to a party member if you have 200 tp and use a Hagun (unless they fix Sekkanoki to work better with Hagun, you're better off as a group giving someone else the TP).
-Starting a KSNM with more people with TP.
-Making use of your meditate timer for dmg while weakened (I seem to do this a decent bit in limbus or salvage).
Past that, Blade Bash cooldown seems the most important. Could even do 4 in Blade Bash and skip Zanshin, but don't take that point out of Shiki.
while agree with unbolded, but those are just wrong, very rarely I find myself in same pt with pld for much of anything, and hagun works great with sekkanoki being able to close the Skillchain with 300% dmg results in a nice chunk of added on most mobs, before I used blade bash -alot-, and really with sekkanoki, shiki barely got put to use, so I'd rather have blade bash more since it's saved me counltess times let me cast shadows, or hold out the few seconds third eye is down and I have hate, or stun mobs like the QQs in Arrapago that run.
It is -extremely- easy to swap a Sam into a tank group for a few seconds, give the pld 200 TP, then drop group. Just because you don't do it, doesn't mean it's not doable and extremely easy. We have used this on multiple fights.
Furthermore, some people do 6man things.
I'm not sure what you're even arguing with on the other point. If you have 200 TP, and your friend that you can SC (perhaps even a lvl 3 with a mnk or something) with has 0, you will always do more dmg giving 100 to your friend and then SCing with them, than you will SCing off yourself. This is assuming a Hagun. Hagun WSes with Sekkanoki are garbage, lower than any other real DD job out there.
Which of the new elemental grips do/would you use for Blm?
I'm thinking Wind, Ice, and Dark for enfeebling/drain/aspir purposes, any other's actually worth it?
Along the same line of thinking, how many and which rings do you carry around? I'm probably going to pick up omega ring as my next einherjar item and I'm wondering if there's still a reason to keep 2 snow rings after I do.
I'd use Dark for sure, for the others the benefit of keeping 2 extra grips over a Bugard+1 is iffy, but if you have the space it'd probably be slightly better, but not noticeably. If you get them for free from LS ZNMs they wouldn't hurt.
And the 2nd Snow Ring may still be of use for your max damage set for Puddings and whatnot.
Yup just those aside from the Bugard+1 you should already have.
You will always be using the x2 INT ring or Sorcerer's/INT ring combination till SE releases an upgrade to one of those two. Omega ring is a replacement for Insect ring. The thing about Omega is that it comes with both a stat and m. acc. Other M. Acc rings don't have that.Along the same line of thinking, how many and which rings do you carry around? I'm probably going to pick up omega ring as my next einherjar item and I'm wondering if there's still a reason to keep 2 snow rings after I do.
Whoa whoa whoa, I took a break for a while, so I may have missed this... but when did blade bash become acceptable to merit?
When you got 4 extra spots to work with and no other merits really worth putting 5 into when Overwhelm is done. Beats wasting TP on a Hobaku.
If you're on a boss run and have a THF with Aura Steal merited, Steal will work as well to dispel the spikes (I used to do that before we made our PLD start coming as BRD).
(I say on a boss run because if you're like my group and just climbing floors, you make your THF come as something more useful... like they make me come WHM when we're climbing :<)
It's pretty much always been acceptable; although the slowly increasing trend of letting DD melee shit has helped (since most of the strong proponents of 3 overwhelm / 3 shiki were from the same philosophical school that thought all monks were good for was chi-blast rotations etc.)
with sam, as long as you've got your overwhelm upgrades at 5 and a six-hit setup you're pretty much free to do w/e you want with the rest of your merits.
I'd be really interested to see the rest of his gear, and to know what food he's eating.
Tried to replicate the Aura Statue one... they hit me over twice as hard as him, didn't miss me once, and my third eye only blocked two attacks each time, so I was getting pummeled for the other 25+ seconds of each 30.
Suffice to say it didn't work so well.
I have THF and NIN @ 75 with kind of no merits to them. 1 dagger, 3 katana, 1 triple attack. Should I max out weapon skills first, and then work on job specifics?
I prefer to honestly, just because the 1>2>3~ makes them easier to crank out and get done to me, as opposed to the 1-5 or 3-5 of job specific.
Assuming you have no other melee jobs at 75, cap them both 8/8 on weapons first. NIN specifics are kinda shit tbh; san spells are ok, ninja tool expertise... Personally i'd cap your thief specifics first. Cap feint, at least 1 in aura steal. Ass charge and ambush are ok, but capped feint and aura steal are just godly.
What's the best grip for WAR? thx![]()
Dump the Shikikoyo and get 5 Blade Bash. The Virus effect become pretty strong at higher levels from what I have noticed in addition to having a Bash quality stun in general. Shikikoyo is a waste in my opinion, and you would use it far less often than you would Blade Bash. Just my opinion.
