war sub. attack bonus, def bonus, double attack, and ofc the most important, resist virus. or whm with mdb and regen. that would probably be the easiest to test in ballista. damage it to see if there's a regen effect, then softball nuke it to see if you can discern the mdb of the wyvern.

DRG/DRG for Accuracy and Attack Bonus, obviously. /SAM would give Store TP + Zanshin as well wouldn't it?

Well, off the top of my head I'm almost positive Store Tp is gained, and as /whm I've noticed the auto-regen kick in. The rest I'm not so sure about. Sleeping through G. colibri parties as Drg/sam I'm inclined to say yes about zanshin. I seem to remember certain times when my wyvern would spin like a top due to rapid attacking...

As far as I have seen, Wyrm Mail transfers all (easily visible, I withhold judgment on resist virus and magic defense bonus, lulz) sub-job traits all the time. I've never put it on and not had auto-regen while soloing, for instance, and as difficult as it is to see, I can never recall my wyvern not double-attacking occasonally with /war. I should check store tp one of these days too, it's fairly trivial to test.

what i'm curious is a question that was asked a while ago and i never saw a satisfactory response (or any that i can remember). if drg is subbing blu (as one often does) and sets spells to grant job traits (eg plantoid killer, autoregen, whatever else) will the wyvern inherit these traits if summoned while the wyrm mail is on? furthermore, if the above question is verified to be true, would changing your set spells to grant other job traits cause your wyvern's inhereted job traits to change/fall off/remain the same? my inclination is the third if it works at all, since only zoning and resummoning seem to change wyvern traits, but it wouldn't be beyond belief for this to be some weird corner case.

Testing would be easy with auto-regen.

Did you call your wyvern before or after you set spells?

i'm aware of the conjectures and anecdotal information regarding the einherjar "bonus" mobs (the birds/tiger/sheep) and clearly enough how the chest bird and sheep affect the run, but does anyone have any quantified data regarding how the other bird and tiger affect the mobs? it seems odd to me that some runs you get a chest full of very potent meds or a sizable boost in treasure from the mob while on others it becomes a liability that must be eliminated or the run becomes harder, leading me to ponder if our conjectures about how those 2 mobs affect the run are even correct. does anyone have some concrete data regarding these mobs or is it just a nebulous assertion that we have to live with?

If you mean the intervals between when they cast spells, not that I'm aware of, but possible. If you mean the actual time it takes for the spell to fire from when they started it, then no.

Best earrings for a 75 rng using ebow? I was told two Triumphs, is that a good idea? Assuming you are /sam or /war using a Vulcan staff.

Asking here cause it's not really part of a "scholar discussion" but posted there first:

Otherwiki says Rapture boosts cures, dia, banish. Does it boost the defense down from dia?

    another completely random question:

What happens if someone uses the new set weapon/earring, but dual wields 2 weapons that both activate the same earring? There's no combinations with Supremacy Earring, but with Paramount Earring (increased vit, hp, acc, racc):

    WAR: axe+dagger
    NIN: katana+dagger
    DRK: Sword+dagger

Of course this is more for curiosity, not exactly a whole lot of usefulness coming out of those combos even if they did double the set effect.

    Question from the uninformed:
What do NIN's do nowadays? afaik pld's seem to be top choice for tanking almost everything and recently noticed I'm seeing way fewer than I used to. So what is Nin's 'niche' these days?

they still tank just fine; just alot of ninja's didn't want to go to the trouble of keeping up to date on ninja tanking (1500+hp, /drk etc) so there's fewer of them around.

it's not that nin tanking is dying out, it's that nin/war tanking is dying out; and since (for some reason) everyone who isn't a 75 dark seems to hate leveling dark sub, fewer people are doing drk37 for their nin than paladins are doing nin37 for their pld (which they mostly were doing already for merits)

I'd have to disagree that Nin tanking not dying out. Even in my LS where we would use Nin's for a lot of stuff PLD just seems to be the better chioce now, they have a survivability factor that Nin's don't have and I see many LS's low-manning mobs now or holding with only a few people so the fact that PLD can survive better in lower numbers makes them so much better.

On top of that with the introduction of new mobs over the past while such as Khim and DI where Nin doesn't get used it just pushes Nin out the door more. Why level Nin to tank a couple mobs when you can level Pld and tank any mob? I have Nin but the second my Pld hits 75 I will sell all my Nin gear and prolly drop a lot of the rare/ex stuff that is Nin only.

there's nothing about ninja that inherently makes it a worse tank in general; except perhaps that it's harder to gear for 'serious' hnm (starting at a lower base hp, primarily, with actual decisions to be made for -m% whereas paladin can stumble their way to the cap) and requires more attention due to smaller mp reserves nin/drk vs pld/nin - balanced by the fact that ninja has stronger non-aoe mitigation and generally access to more haste than paladin; to make up for slightly fewer spike hate tools, they get to use the same tool more frequently etc.

if you take the aegis away alot of the advantages a pld/nin has over a nin/drk go away anyway, so at the upper 5% I'd say they're fairly competitive still; at least enough that player skill with the resp. job matters more than job differences.

at the ideal peak (everything you'd ever want for both jobs) I'd concede that the pld has the edge, but your margin of proficiency on both jobs is above what you'd need for anything currently in the game at that point, so it's just an e-peen waving contest at that level anyway.

tl;dr: pld is easier to gear and play (mostly because it has a larger margin for error) ninja is still perfectly capable of primary tanking every major endgame situation*

I've been playing a whitemage since NA launch more or less without break and I've never been in a situation where I felt I needed to say 'put in a paladin over the ninja' - any issues we were having were not the tank's job. (there were situations where I put in a better tank over a weaker tank, but those switches would happen in both directions.) with the possible exception of dynamis and only because ninja can't 'cheat' the mob tables by curing the bard to gain hate on all the mobs in the pull at once.

*reserving the right to exclude any gimmick fight like 'constant 100fists that ignores shadows' etc that may have been slipped into znm or wotg that I'm not aware of yet.

Aside from high end tanking, which was already commented on, NIN still does a nice job of DD + tanking for smaller group stuff (or can anyway). It's not as though there are no other viable options, but for things like Limbus, Nyzul or other Assaults, etc...NIN still is a nice all around job to have along. Also still solid for merit, solo/duo, and that sort of thing.

IMO, their 'niche' is basically stuff where they can still do solid damage. The sorts of events where you'd use merit style party setups. A good NIN can both tank (or first voke, as the case may be) along with significant damage output, without being an MP sink.

At least, that's the sort of thing where my Aegis PLD friend goes NIN instead of PLD >_>
