That granite joke ... for FFXI. Where did it originate from? I tried to search for it but couldn't find the direct reference when it first surfaced.

Do Khimaira-type mobs have a Flail-ish move?
Thanks for the links. Can't believe it's only been a year-odd since the wiki incidents...
On the topic of tanks, do other servers have a number of HNM shells that use rdm/nins to tank like carby does?
In the damage equation, where does the "damage type" modifier go? eg, piercing damage modifier of 1.25 vs birds?
Normal hits;
[(D * mod) + fSTR] * pdif?
[(D + fSTR) * pdif] * mod?
the latter is correct.* remember to floor after each multiplication.
*technically it might be (D+fstr) * mod * pdif; you would need to find a corner situation where flooring in one order would be correct, and flooring in the other would be incorrect to determine which it is exactly, if you care about 100% accuracy. flooring in the wrong order shouldn't cause much more than 2-4 points of error.
I don't really see much use of it here on Ramuh, I'm many times the 2nd tank and I'll use RDM for certain fights where my PLD isn't quite geared well enough to be up to snuff, mostly Limbus bosses/Kirin, but we also aren't an 'HNM shell' as we don't do Kings/Wyrms.
The hate is fantastic and having the extremely low recast timers even without March is great, though things that take shadows quickly are still very dangerous(fucking Byakko).
Edit: I meant to add that the lack of RDM tanks is likely due to the fact that there are maybe 7 people total on Ramuh that don't have PLD at 75.
this may be a "use the search button" question, and if it is, i apologize, but what kind of gear is needed for a rdm/nin tanking build? the obvious things like dual macu ofc and massive gear haste to push the recast timers down to their minimum, but if someone wanted to gear a rdm/nin tank, what are the more eccentric and unusual pieces one might not think of that are critical or very useful?
This is a good start: belkinator: RDM/NIN -- What it do, mang.
I like using BQ ring just because HP is an issue, Resentment Cape is awesome since it doubles for magic reduction and enmity, Coral and Darksteel pieces(HQs if possible) for Magic/Physical reduction sets, Lamian Kaman(HQ if possible), Goliard Trews are nice for your oh shit set as long as you don't full time them. If you're getting a March Crimson Greaves are a decent foot piece with the resists and HP/MP.
Edit: I think Warlock's +1 hands get overlooked a lot, it's pretty easy to cap recasts if you're getting March/Ballad with a PLD co-tank, and you'd be surprised at the amount of parry procs you get as RDM. Boxer's + AF+1 hands are +25 for 2 slots, that's a huge chunk.
I use the following:

Do you have to leave Melee Gaiters on fulltime to get the enhanced counterstance, or can you take them off after activating it?
I think I may have asked the same question in this thread a long while back, I remember at least one person indicating the bonus should remain. On the rare occasion I actually remember to grab them out of the MH, I swap mine like any of the other AF pieces. Seems to work out just fine, but I've never gone to the trouble of actually parsing it out.
Speaking of RDM tanking, I'm pretty much going to be the main-tank for my Limbus linkshell, and I was wondering whether PLD or DRK would be the better subjob for just farming zones. Obviously I use /NIN for Omega/Ultima, but for shit that's dead in a minute or less and doesn't necessarily hit very hard, I feel like Stun/Flash would be more useful than Utsu. At this point, I'm just having a hard time deciding whether Sentinel/Auto-Refresh/Shield Mastery would be more worthwhile than Last Resort, Souleater, and Vorpal Blade.
/whm and make the melee tank shit
