Everyone always talks about wind skill for brd, but I never see talk of singing skill. Is wind skill much better or is just more available or what? I don't really know what either skill does tbh.

I'm no expert, but I think that the skills act different depending on whether the song you're casting is a buff or a debuff.

From what I understood (haven't read up on this in over a year, so I'm probably wrong) on debuffs the wind/string (whichever you are using) skill is added to your singing skill, so in that case it wouldn't matter which you added to.
I can't remember which skill is used on buffs though, the instrument or singing, but I think I remembered it being one or the other.
I'll let someone who actually plays BRD give you a serious answer though since there's a chance that I'm totally wrong here.

Several reasons:

- Most key instruments are wind.
- Wind, offensively, is inherently more accurate than String.
- String has a varying range. Effectively, the longer you've know the song (in terms of levels), the wider the range. Wind, on the other hand, has a fixed AoE range. The consistency, and not having a song radius (potentially) the range of the entire radar, make Wind more attractive for buffing, unless you're -trying- to hit everyone you possibly can (IE, Ballad in Dynamis).

An example of a common tradeoff would be Mary's Horn vs. Nursemaid's Harp for Lullaby. Mary's Horn is more accurate, but Nursemaid's has a wider range of effect on Horde Lullaby. So a good String build for that may be called for.

As mentioned, basically for songs, skill is Singing + skill of instrument used, and then whatever bonuses (if any) on the instrument itself adding on top of that. Nearly all buffs scale with skill, which is why /BRD songs are so very weak. Can't have an instrument, plus half level skill = 1/4 level skill and no instrument mods. Most effect with known ranges are listed with combined skill values.

I'm not entirely sure if there's weight given to Singing or the instrument skill, but generally speaking for buffs, you can just as well stack Singing as Wind or String. But, that's the general reason that Singing, Wind, and String are all only C level skills. A BRD will rarely every only utilize one of them at a time (maybe in Salvage or something).

They effectively do the same thing as Isiolia mentioned, but generally in the slots where you can stack Wind there aren't really any Singing Skill+ pieces available, and vice versa, with the exception being the ear slot, and Singing/Wind Earrings are for the most part interchangeable. Head/Hands/Back have nice Singing skill+ pieces while Neck/Ear/Body/Legs/Rings have Wind skill+ pieces, so you want to fill out both types if going for a max skill build, although that in itself can be a pretty expensive/time consuming venture that doesn't have much reward other than pressing a few extra haste %'s out of March.

I was piddling around in Campaign yesterday, and was caught me by surprise when a Sprite attacked me just as I was pledging my affection for it.
No idea how I managed get it to attack me, other than the possibility that it linked with the Death Wasps I was fighting.

Any ideas?

About the mob no clue, but here is an idea, stop being lazy and reduce your image filesizes, this goes for everyone.

I do find weird the Sprite Casting Cures in such rapid succesion though.

For Guillotine, Alkys or Heca (+1 would be tough to swing right now but eventually possible)?
Currently I've only got 2 Scythe merits but with sushi, have no problem connecting. Going to be having Ares's Cuirass soon too if that factors in any.

Versus nq heca it is more of a toss-up, but on hq it would be 6-7 acc versus 3 str. If you're using ares body I would use heca hands either way. Personally, I never fight merit mobs on drk, and have no scythe merits, so I just stick to af+1 hands for what I do.

Get AF+1 hands if you can, and use them instead. You want to create a build where you can eat meat, not sushi; even with Ares Cuirass (O Hat for WS). Eating sushi would devalue the attack power on that piece.

If you were given a choice, since you're eating sushi, Alky's will do more; but when you hopefully start using meat with an Ares Cuirass you'll probably find you can't spare the accuracy and still maintain ~95% hit rate on Guillo (which you'll want, since the odds of landing a 4hit one significantly reduce when you start losing %s on that).

Do the colored elemental symbols on Job Abilities ever mean anything at all? I know some people are trying to claim that it could be part of the AV puzzle, but what I'm asking is if there is any time in the game where the element of a JA is actually proven to mean something.

As a hypothetical (and pretty lame) example, i would be interested if there was a mob that used a particular special ability whenever someone nearby used a Fire-based JA. I realize that there isn't.

Possibly during the Final Sting death and where you auto targeted the next Death Wasp, your missed ranged attack was aimed at the Pixie. That looks like it makes sense.
