I believe additional effects from weapon are considered before samba

I can't say if I remember seeing Byakko's wind effect with samba up, but I know I click off motherfucking Ramuh enthudnar all the time in Campaign because it fucks Samba up.

Actually, for a method to cap it nice and fast this is what I did, a la Ryko.

Get a full set of -%dmg taken gear and def gear(arhat's, etc). Get a RDM fren with Phalanx II. Go to Pucks, gather a group, stand and get hit while targetting a faraway Tormentor. Seigan will actually make this not work well because when you counter you will get hate on the puks and any sort of spells cast on you will give hate to the mages. What you want is aggro hate only.

Hmm, so it's different from Mnk counter then? Because I could counter and still not have the mage pull hate unless i actually attacked it on my own. And I'm not sure about parry, but with guard, well you have to guard in order to get a skill proc. At 149, I don't see myself having anything but minimum proc rate on mobs as high as puks. Wouldn't it be better to start with a group of mobs I can actually skill on and just get a fuckton of them like 15-20?

Well I meant more later on for Pucks, same strat for anything else. Also, you responded before my edit and I meant Pucks in den of rancor. And yeah I'm fairly sure at least SAM counter gives you actual hate, I didn't know about MNK counter being that way, that's quite interesting.

You know, it may be worth testing whether SAM counter does actually give hate. I just went based off what other people had said so I don't know from personal experience. The guide I used said it did, but don't remember if it had any proof. Link. I skilled mine up to cap without Seigan.

just wear earth staff and blinding potion can't counter what you can't hit

you can get ffxi+all expansions for $15 at gamestop, probably your best bet if you're intent on giving it another go.

RSE for some races, AF legs for solo, otherwise it's good piece for long time til 70 barone, dusk, pahlawn, aurum, wyrm, AF+1, askar, and etc all better, though at 63 tiger aren't terrible and niether is fourth at 68.
