Never patched from what I've seen over the years in dynamis when any kind of item just sits in the pool

One could make all the excuses he wants, but it's not difficult and requires only a few seconds of your time, anywhere from 0-30 times over the course of 2-3.5 hours. Not taxing at all.
I'm not saying its hard. I'm saying its a waste of my time.

Funny how you use the words "not taxing at all" when you'd penalize some random BLM if he happens to not care enough to pass on a DRG drop.

So if no one wants those AFs you just drop them rather than let them go to a random person? or just let it freelot for mannequins?

We "penalize" people for not paying attention. If you don't care enough to respect the rules we have in place to make sure AF is quickly and correctly distributed to the people who have earned them (or want them in the case of free-lotted AF), it's a penalty well-deserved that even I--as a leader who does everything you listed and more--am myself subject to.

That you'd simply choose to not do something that takes a trivial amount of effort because you feel it's a personal waste of your time is arrogance that doesn't belong in a cooperative event.

Edit: However, if as the leader of your linkshell you are successful and have never had any sort of distribution problem that rules like ours seek to prevent, then more power to you and I wish you continued success.

Then I suppose its a good thing I'm not in a linkshell with such shitty and arbitrary rules. I believe in penalizing people for actually doing something stupid, or something which contributes to a lesser or no success of the event, not for obtaining a random drop that no one may even want.

    Good luck to you though.

Some may argue the rules are "shitty," but they are hardly arbitrary. If you receive something through explicit lotting or inattention, you pay for it if you previously elected to forgo receipt of AF for gil instead. If you don't want it, you pass it.

Item distribution is part of the event of Dynamis. That is, of course, the reason why people do it, is it not? Either to get things for themselves, for others, or to address the challenges of the event's execution itself.

The linkshell I'm a part of has been around for years. We don't need luck, only members who pay attention and have the interests of their fellow members in mind with their own.

Edit: I should make it clear that the situation that was brought up originally, where a person's points (or whatever system is used to determine how a person gets their primary equipment wants) is penalized by a presumably higher-than-normal multiple for receiving auto-distributed AF is probably not fair in the limited context it was presented in, and not something I agree with in principle.

Our rules do not penalize someone's primary lotting efforts from auto-distributed AF, are designed to get people to clear things quickly, and eliminate double-dipping into the rewards we have established within Dynamis.

That Dynamis rule has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever read.

You want to punish people for constant AFKs/not paying attention/not passing quickly when it matters, D2 and break their pearl, simple as that.

Penalizing members for auto-sort crap that nobody wants, that's retarded, there's a better way to handle "punishment". (As in, not having crappy members there in the first place)

Edit: I don't know about every LS, but we're too busy actually doing the event in question to be bothered passing something unless we're close to a time-out.

    Hi,

My name is Izzy. I can not be bothered to do any sort of multitasking at all. Instead, I ask that you please encourage my laziness by allowing me to neglect a simple duty such as passing a piece of AF that stays in the treasure pool for five minutes. Perhaps if I engaged myself in doing multiple activities during Dynamis, I would become a better player and Dynamis would become a more interesting and fun event for everyone.

P.S. I deserve everything. Also, I intentionally get myself killed so I can AFK for 5 minutes without repercussion.

    Kind Regards,

    -Izzy

P.P.S. My LS has only been around for almost 5 years now. However, our shitty and arbitrary rules will most certainly spell our inevitable downfall soon. Sell your stock before it's too late.

I don't like passing AF because I always fear I'm going to be the last to pass and something else will drop in the pool and I end up lotting instead of passing and win the AF I don't want. Happens in Salvage all the time with cells, except at least you can hand a cell to the person in need where as once you've won that AF you may have just screwed the next person. I don't see a reason in passing unless you're withing the last 5 minutes of the run. Why cause a mistake to happen when it can be prevented by letting it auto-sort?

The real penalty is letting the afk dude's inventory fill up with drg and pup so he can't have infinity cores free fall to him.

    This ^^

If it's worked for Izzys LS for five years, that fine with me, I still think it's completely unnecessary. Seems like there are better ways to handle people that aren't paying attention (like removing from the LS, so they aren't a problem in the future)

Your entire arguement is arbitrary, its great for you, having such a wonderful ls were everyone is on the ball every run and you have no memebers who cause you any problems at all and that if you do you just kick them or whatever.

Learning to recognise that there is an immense skill gap from shell to shell, and that this is often reflected by how their members perform. Its not always a case of being able to kick whoever you want because they aren't pulling their weight, or just punishing them as you see fit.

For example, my current ls can farm xarc with 18 better than a dynamis ls I ran with 2 years ago that took between 40 and 50 members on each run. They couldn't operate under the same system because if they did, it would always result in either several people getting everything or most things being open to lot by a larger number of people than would seem reasonable.

The arguement for not having time to pass is also a bad one. Most good rdms are kept busy during pulls, but in it takes a matter of 5 seconds to open treasure pool and pass an item.

What is the best use of a Shadow Mantle or Shadow Ring?

The reason I'm asking is that we're going to take a shot at DL soon. I'm not expecting miracles first time but I'm hoping we will beat him eventually and I need to worry about Shadow drops.

We have an idea who are our best attending/highest points/most loyal members with tank jobs etc and my current assumption is that the mantle at least should be prioritised for tanks. I can see an argument for all sorts of peeps getting the ring but again should I be thinking tanks first?

We don't have any notable RDM tanks so right now I'm looking at PLDs and NINs. Most of the peeps with these jobs also have WAR.

War is no more of a tank these days than drk or sam.

Ring is a lot more useful than Mantle, especially from a tanking perspective.

If you're actually looking to distribute based on whether or not they do tank, don't take having nin at 75 as an actual tank job, 90% of people with nin levelled never use it for tanking anything where they'd be using E staff/Hades and all the typical nin/drk or /rdm gear.

Both items will ultimately benefit a tank more than someone who doesn't tank, both ring and mantle have uses in typical endgame scenarios. They aren't amazing pieces and I guess it depends on how badly people in the shell want them.

Does anyone know? If not I'll try starting a thread in standard.

Yeah I think a lot of the time people want them more for having them than anything else.

Ring is pretty awesome for tanks. Mantle is also good situationally... MNKs could also use it for Chakra macro on Darksdays I guess.

Shadow Mantle is good for bloodtanking, I thought; I seem to remember people saying it will block more damage over time than the extra shield skill from Boxer's.
