Assuming fully merited ShellraV, how much MDB does a paladin need to cap out?
It is very situational but also depends on your ls. Some ls's don't let plds melee things like fafnir and odin, if you are in one of those ls's then haute has some use there.
The one fight where haute really does shine is ixion, you will take physical damage (I know you can avoid all tp moves but you're lying if you say you do), often large amounts so that 7% can easily stack up from anywehre to 10-60 damage on a decently geared pld (stance and kick seem to do around 100-750 damage to plds).
Other than those sorts of fights you're right, haute is mostly just for show but it has uses and due to its rarity people are willing to pay a high price.
I enjoy capping all weapons on WAR and just finished Polearm (only staff left), is there any practical reason to unlock Impulse Drive?
Already answered (Kenny is right) but it seems like a very common mistake nowadays to group MDB with Shell rather than MDT.
Stats relevant to MDT: other MDT you might have. It caps at 50%, it's a straight "stuff does half damage" by then.
Stats relevant to MDB: Mob MAB. MDB is not quite as good as MDT. (1+mob MAB)/(1+your MDB) is by how much stuff gets cut.
I can't find it >_<
Please can someone post a link here to this BLU site which had lots of info and it told you how to solo or duo to learn your spells? As well as providing indepth information to the spell/mobs/etc
I recalled it having a light brownish background, and it uses HTML frames.
It doesn't use frames, but is this it?
Nope, it's a piece of shit, but it can make Darkness with some weapon skills.
So shellraV gives 27% -MDT, with 23% from gear to hit -50% MDT cap, does adding MDB then further reduce the damage taken on top of that?
You get Impulse Drive for the same reason you make sure all of your sub jobs possibly used weapon skills are capped. Completeness.
Haut is bitchin for Pld/Rdm in a lot of situations, Joytoy is just so damn broken for Atonement spam though.
251 Enh Phalanx, all shield skilled out the ass, Gorget+Mufflers+Capped Stoneskin (410 SS wut?), Haute, D.ring, Jelly ring, Shadow mantle, etc. Laugh as monsters sit and scratch their head and try to figure out how to hurt you.
I want one for Pld/Rdm, but it isn't a big deal.
Kill a lot faster, or die a little slower.
Pld/rdm is good for ixion and soloing, other than that you've completely missed the point about the pld/rdm thread from a while back. There is rarely any benefit to subbing /rdm on anything you can blink tank and the only reason people do it, is for a change or to try something new.
Slow down there cowpoke, I didn't say it was the ideal sub did I?
I said it was fun, and basically implied that Haute would be a fun toy.
Anything serious, I'm gonna be hiding like a (well informed) bitch behind my Utsusemi and Shield.
If /RDM for certain doesn't get you killed, it's better, since it results in more damage due to more shield procs.
(Of course, you wouldn't use Haute in that situation, which is the discussion at hand)
Yeah, if you have a full maxed out Phalanx setup, all the fast cast and shit for Stoneskin with a full 410 SS when needed, and all the other toys, the TP spam from 0~low dmg shield blocks rules.
That's a big part of how I got Atonement, letting mandies in the tree spam feed me TP.
I don't have all that, and my support isn't accustomed to Pld/Rdm's, so it's a funstuff sub for me. Your results may vary.
this site maybe?:
Blue Magic Hunting Grounds
MDT is generally better than MDB until you hit MDT cap. let's use some concrete examples.
let's assume you have a moderately merited shellraV at 25% MDT and are about to take a 1000 damage magic hit.
without any other gear you'd take 750 damage.
if you doubled your MDT to 50% with say an aegis you now take 500 damage. that's a third less damage from 25% MDT added.
meanwhile if we were about to take a 1000 damage hit from magic and the enemy's MAB was 100 (math nerds will realize this is irrelevant to the math, but it helps to work through with all the numbers plugged in imo.) with you having 25 MDB you would take
100/125*1000= 800 damage.
if we stack on another 25 MDB you'd take
100/150*1000= 667 damage or about 18% less damage.
it's clear that more MDB has diminishing returns but no cap, as opposed to MDT which has increasing returns up to the cap.
While its great for solo and it can do well against ixion it is not better in any situation it doesn't get you killed. You will build tp faster with joyeuse and /nin in most situations as /rdm requires constant casting at shield skill gear (shield mastery is only 3tp? per block at 75). Its perfectly possible to /rdm against something that hits as hard as tiamat without being at risk of dying, but the hate you lose from unblocked hits is going to cause the mob to look at other targets more often and for longer if you've got melee or blms reaching CE and VE caps.
You won't be casting stoneskin as pld/rdm when actually tanking (the idea of keeping hate off others) unless you can do it before some big damage that you know is coming (Citadel Buster or Odin's 10k needles).
Like I said already its the best sub to solo stuff with but it is inferior to /nin when you are tanking a HNM.
