I did polearm sam just now for shits and giggles and i suppose i should work on my ws set. ill include the tp set so that you know how much stp I need on ws in advance and don't have to ask later.

You need to melee with hachiman gloves. Full 5-hit is better dmg than partial 5-hit + 3% haste. especially for polearm, a 240 skill weapon, you won't land 4 hits of penta even with sushi, unless you have 8 merits, even then... For your ws gear priority is accuracy because when the first hit of penta doesn't land, your 5-hit breaks. But you also need hachi hands, or your first hit wont give enough tp and you'll be back to a partial 5-hit. Keeping 5-hit is better than any dmg you'll get on acc/dex/att on penta. its relatively easy to cap acc during ws.

Got into a pattern doing sky of farm tue/thur some, go on sunday early, burn some 2hrs zerging kirin, go kill the other four for a couple hours, go zerg kirin again, go chillax/do other shit.

Also: yes, I've gotten "effect wears off" messages for shield break, but I remember one resisting it, and when you full break that one you get att/acc wears off, which is odd.

So two or three years after ToAU came out I finally got off my lazy ass to get a walahra turban (hey I have no melee jobs that can equip it so it's never been a HUGE deal). Anyway, after 2 days of waiting I eventually went and released Chochoroon so I could trade bronze pieces to the dude. My experiences gave me a few questions I can't find info on.

1) What level do you have to be to reliably pick locks in the strongholds? I was in Arrapago Reefs and went 1/3 on the locked Ironbound gate and 1/5 on the cage with Chochoroon in it, each fail on the cage resulting in 10 minute weakness. I went as THF63 using living keys
2) Chochoroon gave me a ??? box which he then appraised (not for free the ungrateful bastard) into an ether +1. Do any "rescued prisoner" ??? items appraise into anything good like either a gil item or storm gear?

Picking locks in beastmen strongholds is a pain, success rate is horrible even at 75.
I only ever got consumables from the rescued NPCs (nin tool bags, arrow quivers, medicines), not likely they can give different stuff.

Valor Minuet IV is also not capped at 75 with no merits; it requires +12 skill to get two extra points of attack (which is easy).
