I most definitely play PLD. And what I'm saying is pretty much summed up with Max's final statement up there. If he's swapping into a hardcore PDT set, I'm assuming he's taking hate on something that hits pretty fucking hard.

I know the defense formulas aren't completely broken. I'm saying that the numbers he's reaching in that set aren't omgwtfbroken enough to warrant sticking in a Def set vs a PDT set on *Things That Hit Hard*. If a Def/Vit set like that is enough to completely offset something like basic Fafnir, why exactly don't you see more Pld/Blus rocking 999+ Def on him and tanking in god mode?

What's the best mob to cap shield skill on for 75 pld/dnc?

I did it on Pucks in Den of Rancor, you can pull one to the Temple of Uggalepih zone and just zone in if you start getting low. Of course, this was before DNC existed, so I was just standing there letting it beat on me. It's probably much easier now with /DNC. Just make sure that you pull one that's EM or Tough, they can pop as 74, which won't get you to cap.

It's probably technically possible to connect your console's hard drive to your PC and extract the DATs, but installing the game would be a lot simpler.

The 2 .dat viewers commonly available pull the .dats straight from your PC, assuming FFXI is installed. So, as far as I know, no.

I don't know why you don't, I use PLD/RDM on him with much less PDT and rarely take over 100 damage from a non-crit. <_>

You can't apply the level correction directly to the attack, it's an additive adjustment to the ratio. If Tiamat hits you, 99999 defense won't bring her cRatio under 1.0.

As a wild guess, I think a more accurate approximation would be about 450 attack. So:

450/363=1.24, +1.0 = 2.24 cRatio
94*2.24=210, -27%= 153
94*3.24=304, -27%= 221

450/309 = 1.46, +1.0 = 2.46 cRatio.
101*2.46=248, -35%=161
101*3.46=349, -35%=226

I don't think VIT really has diminishing returns, exactly: what it has is a lower cap on fSTR. On a level 95 mob, you'd hit that when your VIT is 54 over its STR.

Wrong. It's not at all related to what you get hit for, so much as why. A mob with high base damage and low attack(ie: simurgh) can drop from 150 damage/hit to 30-40 with just tacos and no gear changes.

Quick question on Fstr. h2h is rank 2, so weapon rank +8 = 10. Isn't 4str per fstr going to make it 40 str over mob's vit to cap? I was just confused because some were saying it was 36 str

As long as the BRD is in XP range to get credit for each kill.

str caps at (14+rank*2)*2=+36 in case of +dmg>=15 weapons. Wagh and faith have one less rank and cap at +32.

Edit: When STR-VIT value is high, fSTR can be approximated by (your STR - monster VIT+4)/4 kk i get it now 103-64+4 = 40/4 = 10 for the fstr 10. Only prob now is that I'm gonna cap out fstr on Gcolbri w/ full usu and not rly gonna get anything but stp+5 on focus up macro from rajas >.> should I be using the attack+5 ring?

The lower cap of fSTR is - Weapon Rank
vs

Destroyers for example in the first example would be -2
but in the second example
-(7 + 4) x 2 = -22str which if 4 str/fstr then that'd be way more than -2
