Getting close to needing to buy a Harpe for my THF. Until I get a SK should I offhand a hornetneedle or chicken knife? Also, should I use the harpe until I get a blau, or is there something better than a harpe and cheaper then a blau (outside of X's and P. Harpe)?

I am trying to help friend out who needs a MDT/MDB and Fire resist set for his PLD.

Can some one post a link to 'sensible' set for each?

When I say sensible, I mean no aegis or 10million AH item please, he is on a budget and PLD isn't his main job.

The fire resist is for KS99 if that matters. At what point does fire resist become viable for KS99? If he can't afford a full on fire build I assume he would be best to just use his MDT/MDB set?

Made these set in like 5 mins, so there's probably flaws I'm not thinking of.

That's a pretty solid MDB set, will cap you out with Shell V and adds some MDB on top of that. None of the items in that set are over like 500k, and many are free via IS or AN. Can sub in the NQs if you're really on a budget and still do ok. I don't personally have a fire set because I don't really use PLD very much. My personal MDB set looks a lot like that (with Shell V I can swap some pieces out since I'll cap MDB), except I use Avalon body and Valhalla head, and I can actually swap some out since I'll cap with Shell V.

My set for Tiamat. It's also gonna depend on the support he gets, will he be getting Barfire and Fire Carol as well? The set posted is overboard for KS99, you can knock anything there down to NQ and you'll still be much more then good enough if you have some support, if he doesn't have Hrotti can use Water/Neptunes staff and grip. Some of it's free, some he may already have. I've tanked KS99 as War with w/e I had R/Ex in my MH as a fire set and it did more then enough, so I don't imagine your friend shouldn't have a hard time.

Yes, he will have a WHM and BRD with him so he should be @ ~130 Fire resist from the support alone.

But as fire resist is something I have never looked into, I didn't even know where to start looking.

Otherwiki says ~220 should be enough, which means he need 80-90 from his set.

So I was looking for the cheapest way to get to ~100 fire resist

Elemental resist builds are usually an all or nothing, except a few exceptions like Sarameya where you can get away with a few pieces and have a reliable resist rate. I dont think the ks99 Wyrm resists as much as say Tiamat, so will not need any HQs or expensive gear for a good set that should resist at a ~90%+ rate.

Main: Hrotti (15)
Shield: Numinous shield (15)

Or: Water/Neptune's Staff (15-20)

Ranged: Cerberus Bow (13) Relatively expensive to craft and hard to find.
Head: Black Ribbon (12) Green Ribon +1 is (10) for about 10k.
Neck: Jeweled Collar (10) Buburimu Gorget is als (10) and much cheaper/easy to get. Jeweled Collar will be nice for other elemental resist sets, though.
Ear1: Ruby Earring (10)
Ear2: Ruby Earring (10)
Body: Assault Breastplate (15) Bastokan Harness (5) is the cheap option.
Hands: Tarasque Mitts (5)
Ring1: Malflame Ring (9)
Ring2: Ruby Ring (9)

Can augment some pieces for awesome results, if lucky. Specially noticiable in the hands and body pieces, given your friend most likely hasnt got access to Assault Breastplate. With the really cheap and quested pieces, should hit around 140, which is fine for the Wyrm with the proper buffs. HQs and rare pieces are just needed for the top end mobs. If he cant hit 130+ I would just go with a -%magic damage taken and MDB set.

I assume you mean 130+ in gear? That would mean 260(ish) with buffs (seems a lot compared with the wiki recommendation)

But you are probably right, I only used a fire set for ks99 when I had already built one for tougher stuff, so that was just a thought of what I figured would be needed, maybe your friend can get away with less than that. With 50k and a couple short quests you can get 110~!

also, is it not true that berserk also goes off base attack+minuets and then is added to chaos,

like 100 base, zerk bumps to 125, and say you hit a 25% chaos it will be 125+125, then food afterwards?

that also happens to make some of these atk/acc/haste comparisons have some lulz because adding base attack through gear makes zerk etc more powerful, as in attack is a bit underrated

Base attack + attack from skill + attack from traits + attack from gear + attack from songs = multiplyable attack. All %-based things go from there, seperately.

Say you have 500 attack base, 200 from gear, and 100 from traits. 800 attack. Berserk + 25% Chaos + 25% uncapped Food will result in 800 + 200 + 200 + 200 attack, 1400.

Now add songs, 200 attack. This time around, total attack is 1000 + 250 + 250 + 250, or 1750.

If your food caps, it's the same, except your food isn't going to be 250 but 100 for instance.

Cool, as you say ~100 is very easy and cheap. Going over 100 starts costing (possibly more than he is willing to pay) and going to the 150+ you need for real tough stuff is very expensive.

I wanted to figure out if there was such a thing as a budget fire resist set and I guess there is (to a point).

I have no math to back it up like most of the people, but I would recommend Iota. The Added ACC, DEX, and VIT really help it out. While there is a STR mod on Stringing Pummel, in all honesty, we're PUPs, how often can we really connect all 6 hits without blessing from unseen gods? We need all the ACC we can get.

Thorny beat me to the Att explanation, but yeah, I was wtfing at the idea that Berserk is calculated before other shit.

400 Att base + 25% Zerk = 500, +90 Meat = 590
400 Att base + 90 Meat = 490, +25% Zerk = 612 <= This is what happens, I am well over 600+ with a sub/zerk/warcry and shit.
