Scholar, assuming you have some merits that benefit it already, and it would solo pets similarly to BLM.

Thanks for the advice. Found out also that Steam Cleaner can deaggro if the right conditions (distance, 25sec+, etc) are met. I first tried sleeping the detector in the basement and running, but guess I ran too far that he deaggro and sure enough, he was following his Detector buddy in the basement. I wiped after I got hit by Mysterious Light but held it at the zone with bio. Will probably get in a few more merits before I attempt Faust ^_^Originally Posted by Callisto

To answer the question, I'm pretty sure I've seen Aurik post somewhere that you can swap it in just for the JA, and you still have the effect with them off.
Sam will absolutely fly through pets.Originally Posted by Kumbai

BLU spells aren't THAT bad to get. You can just focus on getting the primary ones (the ones you're going to use a lot or that you need for an important trait) and then go for completion once you hit 75 and find random slots of time (this works well because it's usually easier to get spells as you level more I think). It probably won't be as time consuming as you think.Originally Posted by Kumbai

Question for all the Vana'diel storyline experts: In the DNC-job related cutscenes is there any particular reason why Laila (both as child and adult) speaks like an Irish pirate while her mother and servant speak queen's English?
Haha can't picture an Irish Pirate.... Ooo arrrgh top o'the mornin tae ya! :3Originally Posted by Vigilia

How can you tell if you have too much racc on for SW? I am currently lv55, using 60+17 AGI and +62 racc, with full archery merits (so +12 skill as well). How much of that racc, if any, can I take off for STR/ratt? With and without sushi, please. Birds don't like it when I eat food.
Another unrelated question: besides job-specific merits and combat merits, what are the best things to merit for RNG?
Wouldn't full archery merits be +16 skill?Originally Posted by Ryushii
R.Acc you just gotta play with till you find a comfortable spot really. But remember landing 1 more sidewinder will always be more important than adding 10-20 damage to the rest of them.
Other than JSM and Combat merits, STR is about all I can think of. Pretty sure crit rate doesn't effect /ra and I have Enm- for my Mage jobs, which might help a little on RNG too?
just a quick correction, crit does affect ranged attacks, however crit r atts calculate differently, like whereas a melee crit is 1.5% normal dmg, a r att crit is 1.25%(im not 100% sure sure on the melee crit bump, but i am sure about the r att crit).
that said, thunder/jupiter's staff does not affect r att crits, and dex has no effect on ratt crits. ^^
What would a SAM fight in the 40-50 range using that method of leveling? (42-44 in particular seem to be the rough spots, or maybe there's some Beastman pets I don't know about.)Originally Posted by Secksi
Quick question.
I used to play ffxi a long while ago, and am thinking of getting back in, and was just dicking around a little earlier at work looking up possible gear setups for my samurai.
I can't go through all the modifier calculations right now, something I plan to do, but just a few questions on the impact of a stat. As far as I calculated, the absolute maximum +STR for an Elvaan Samurai from any slot outside of main/sub weapon is +69.
1) Is there a cap on how much STR+ from armor will effect a WS?
1a) Similar to haste, if there is a cap, does it differ among armor/spells and songs/food? If so, has it been discovered?
2) Does the effect of an increase in STR diminish? I.e., the difference between +2 and +5 STR are much greater than +42 and +45 STR.
2a) Are there diminishing returns as ATT increases?
3) How does STR+ compare to ATT+ for WS?
I took some time flipping through ffxicyclopedia to look through armor to see maximum STR build for SAM, and while anyone can do what I did in probably half the time, I can send the armor information I dug up if anyone would like (just trying to figure out builds).
How noticeable is Sarashi? I wanna get a new waist for my THF, but Mercenary's belt vs Sarashi since I don't want to make a shitload of macros. Although I hate being gimp... So is Sarashi really worth it at all?
According to the OtherWiki its 1% delay reduction.. which in my opinion is pretty lolworthy.Originally Posted by Tricen
Suppa and Koga Hakama are 5% each iirc, so Sarashi is definitely not close to being on par with either of those in terms of delay reduction for Dual Wield.
I guess your THF is mid 30s? Not really many options at that level.
edit: Mercenary Captain Belt probably the best thing.
edit again: It's cheap enough so you could use it for TPing if you want, but not a big deal either way.
