Never tried the SA mistral thing. Who would ever use a 1h axe as WAR/THF?But I know it crits, because it works with mighty strikes. And man, 300% TP Mistral MS with a DA is pretty fucking out there for damage. From downtown.

I don't entirely understand the point of the axes like Franchesca and stuff for RNG. Yay, it offers considerably less racc for considerably more ratt. My big question is why use it, especially when trying to do Slugwinder spam, considering that the racc gained from trailer's kukri/archer's knives could be used instead, allowing you to switch out some of your other eacc gear for STR+ instead. Also, it just isn't practical to try to switch around weapons at all, so switching between the two seems pointless. Can someone please explain to me the point of these axes?
At 75 you should be spending most of your time with a fire staff strapped to your back anyways. But r.acc in merits is pretty worthless, RNG actually has very good natural accuracy 70+. And the reason alot of people use dual axes is because not only do those axes have nice stats, axe is a very good melee weapon, and the ranged daggers have pretty crappy stats. Back in the day RNGs actually melee'd at all times unless the mob was kited, there were no ranged distance penalties, and no velocity shot.

Ah. Guess without access to a good 2 hander SA WS, BST/THF with axe would make a little more sense. Dunno if it would compare to the glory of what dual wield does for 1 handed weapons, but it would probably be fun to play around with.
300% mighty strikes calamity is nice too.
does that work with sata? it oughta.
Pretty sure Mistral > Calamity all day long at 300% with mighty strikes.
this is just for killing sky gods right now, having sata for it will help more than a little more dot from dual wield (as a bst)
i have looked at it rasantath, besides from the initial 300% tp save on demi's mistral has a better ftp modifier at 100% over calamity.
I discovered that after beating him with absolute minimal curing needed from the WHM (3 Cure Vs throughout the entire fight, that was it - she spent the rest of the time casting Banish spells). :O He rarely hit me for more than 0, a few criticals after having dispelled my Phalanx reached double digits (20-40 crits), and his -agas hit me for 200-400dmg, while my Vorpals were averaging about 350-400 each.Originally Posted by Therin

lol, you're going to make me bust out a 1h axe and go /Thf to sky Thursday just to SATA Mistral someone....
which merit should i put into cat1 WHM? going to cap barspell for sure, but which is better regen effect or -cure cast time?
How much damage does an Enhancing toruqe add to enspells?
I was thinking of picking one up for scholar as there pretty cheap but sell really slowly atm so i don't want to waste an AH slot buying one to test then resell again

+1 dmg/20 enhancing.
well im definetly not gonna use whm for merit, most likely gonna be for endgame stuff, fully meritted barspell give +10 MDB to corresponding element, pretty good i say esp for ouryu/tiamat/JoL fight.
I only use my WHM for endgame & crafting (yay teleports & sprinters shoes). I think elphaba nailed the arguement down for ya. The category one merits are based on more/less how you play WHM. I have 5/5 bar spell effect & 3/5 cure cast time at the moment. (I've been merit'ing DRG lately)Originally Posted by SamanosukeShiva
I do know WHMs that are 5/5 regen effect and they love it, with or without AF2 body. It's all in what you prefer and how you play WHM, as well as looking at what your endgame shell would need. If you have some NIN with decked out resist setups, maybe your merits would better serve you in Regen etc.
Oh, and as for the Mistral Axe discussion...i'm going to be watching my ass more carefully now... Mistral Axe from down town smokes tarutaru, more at 11.
Cure cast time. I'm really, really glad you said barspells because you usually have to talk people into those...Originally Posted by SamanosukeShiva
Regen is great and if I had another category spare I'd merit it (have relic body) but frankly compared to the huge difference cure cast makes, for the stuff I do it's weak. Cure casting timer is a noticable difference between peeps living and dying.
My merits:
Cure Cast x5 (clogs got)
Barspells x5 (relic pants got)
Shellra V x3
Devotion X2
Protectra V x1
am considering dropping one off Devotion and trying martyr but probably won't.
I use WHM for almost everything which includes Dynamis, Salvage, Assault, Sky, Limbus, Events etc. I do merit with it and /SCH with penury macroed into haste is ftw.
I have a similar setup, however for tier II's i've maxed devotion and left Shellra V at LV2 since it's 24.2-25-25.8 % and it's rounded down iirc, so I figured i would just leave it at a flat 25%. I too have wondered if Martyr is worth it, any WHM posting in this topic have it, i dont want to spend 3 merits to play with it then remove it >_<Originally Posted by Eldelphia
Regen and cure cast time merits are pretty much equal in usefulness, and deciding which to merit should depend on your playstyle. On the one hand, regens used properly will save you a lot of MP, and with full merits, it just becomes even better. On the other hand, cure cast time... well, it's pretty self-explanatory. Barspells aren't really negotiable, they're definitely the most useful group 1 merit, as I see it.
Also, Eldelphia, definitely drop devotion (or protectra) to unlock martyr, it's well worth it for reasons already mentioned.
It's not rounded down, rather it's calculated in x/256, giving 62/256 when unlocked, and another 2/256 per upgrade. There are times where it wouldn't help to cap it (with an Aegis PLD, with two merits into shellra you'd get 64/256, which is the same as Aegis gives, totalling 128/256, or 50%, which is the cap), so if you find yourself with one of those most of the time it might not be worth capping (and even then, it depends on the rest of the party as well as what you're fighting), but if not, I'd definitely suggest fully upgrading it. See above about martyr.Originally Posted by Octavius
When I mentioned 24.2% 25% 25.8% reduction, it's basically the exact same as 62/256 (24.2%) + 2/256 (0.8%) per increase. So if it's not floored then I guess it would be worth it, I just can't see Devotion being longer as I got my HP setup for the MP bomb <3. Is Martyr's calculation similar to Devotions Hp->Mp conversion? I haven't ever used Martyr so I've not looked it up (can't either as im working atm Q_Q).Originally Posted by Rena
Martyr sacrifices 25% of your HP to heal twice the amount.
