also, for what it's worth, capped shellra5, however you round it, let's a rdm/nin tank maintain af1/af2 head and dalmatica and still wear enough coral to hit the 50% cap.

elph and i go back and forth about cure cast time vs. barspells, im the dolt she thankfully didnt mention by name advocating barspells, but she is absolutely right that there is no real reason, outside of sea, for her to max it, it's just that we do so much sea that i see it as worthwhile. i just, as an aspiring rdm tank, get all a tingly thinking about the +10 MDB on top of the 120 ele resistance, especially b/c of of all of the coral(well +1 legs and hands, mermans earrings and rings). shellra, etc, basically letting a thundaga3 not break my stoneskin :3

however i also think she's right to finish her brd merits(letting me do str lol) before coming back to barspells.

If anything, I'd drop the Protectra V if you want to try Martyr. My LS leader uses it often. He has regen and I think barspells capped; he, like me (even on BRD as I'm rarely on WHM), uses regen quite heavily. We kid him about how he'll look at a non-tank in red HP and regen 1 them, though he's not quite that savage about it, and people hardly ever die. Honestly, I wish more mages would trend that way in most situations than the overcuring that tends to prevail. I even saw someone once negate their own regen immediately with a (complete overkill) Cure IV >.>

you lose the same amount of HP, but heal the person double. Also great for a BLM using latent getting the shit kicked out of them to remain in latent but alive. I use it every time it's up.

If they are purposely getting hit to stay in latent then they aren't doing it right, lol.

I had Cure Cast Time Level 5 and Barspell Level 5 for group 1.
Regen is still decent, but it's not going to save someone in a life/death situation, whereas the cure time decrease will.

Good lord I hate this shit while leveling PLD....I'll be mid-cure III/IV and get insta-cured by a DNC and waste the MP and gain no hate.

At 75 you should be spending most of your time with a fire staff strapped to your back anyways. But r.acc in merits is pretty worthless, RNG actually has very good natural accuracy 70+. And the reason alot of people use dual axes is because not only do those axes have nice stats, axe is a very good melee weapon, and the ranged daggers have pretty crappy stats. Back in the day RNGs actually melee'd at all times unless the mob was kited, there were no ranged distance penalties, and no velocity shot.

So would you say the modern RNG really has little use for dual axes? Fire staff=merits, knives=gods/hnm?

Axes aren't antiquated for RNGs, they're still the happy medium between staff and knife.

What's become antiquated is NIN sub.

If you're using 'dual' anything you're doin it wrong.

Yeah, while leveling. I'm only 63 PLD but I still want to kill the person curing me everytime that shit happens.

I have not used daggers of any kind on ranger for ages unless it's for level capped content. But yeah, I haven't used /NIN on RNG in ages either. Not to say there's never a situation where it would help, it's just not all that often in my experience. Mostly /SAM for merit and /WAR for HNM.

i used to /sam with my old enm group(we had a black mage and believed in skillchaining, so i had to keep up with a ridill lol), and i will say, 21 tp per shot w/ a hellfire in a fun fucking thing. i guess my question is why sub sam in exp? are you wearing a 2h weapon?(ostensibly a fire/vulcan's staff), bc otherwise you don't get the bonuses from hasso and seigan. and personally, i just preferred using an axe to mainhand, offhand a knife if i was in a situation where /nin was appropriate(ie, free colibri camp).

brutal earring +1 stp
rajas +5 stp

or, if you'd like to keep a pcc or torque on i'd look into Ecphoria ring, comes from new ladybug nm in east ronufaure [s] and has +1 stp +4 acc and 100 charges of cure amnesia

Yeah, fire staff with /SAM, use seigan and velocity shot, hasso occasionally for WS if the timers permit. Especially if you are using bow, since you shouldn't be within melee distance anyways unless you get hate.

every ranger i've ever met has had a personal preference to a weapon, and maybe it's because it took me so long to get, but i have always loved my othinius' bow, so for me, either /nin w/ franny and hawkers(sold kreigs after velocity shot came out), or /war w/ franny. but it sounds like you're 100% on the right track w/ distances, 2h weapons, etc.

but for me, i will always <3 my obow

Good thing about WAR/SAM is that if you are connecting most of your Raging Rushes, you can get rid of Chiv Chain after the first initial TP build up.
