No and No, though I've heard the RNG ring is very nice, neither are essential. Mage ring is AMAZING in salvage / assaults though.
Balrahn's is sort of the suppa of the ToAU rings imo, it gives something no other ring can give, Ulthalam's and Jalzahn's are both excellent rings for their purposes but extremely replaceable and in Ulth's case there are better choices (snipers +1, divisor).

You won't notice 4 ATK/6 RATK but you will notice 1mp/tic, granted it's only in assault/salvage but if you do a lot of salvage it's pretty sex.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

Do accuracy buffs like Absorb-ACC, the Fenrir acc/evasion buff, etc, give ranged accuracy as well?

I'm fairly sure fenrir's acc does not have any impact on racc.

no clue on absorb-acc but since it's only drk main it wouldn't help much.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

Just got SAM to 65 and got gekko, so was trying out self-scs and such.

From my understanding of WS, if you do gekko after distortion or gravitation, that should make a darkness SC right? Just like if you do kasha after frag or fusion.

Now, I did enpi >> enpi >> gekko... got the distortion, but nothing off of gekko ;; what'd I do wrong?

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

gekko only makes darkness off of gravitation... blade: ten/ku, evisceration, cross reaper and others on that side are the ones that make it off of distortion.

kasha only makes light off of fragmentation... shark bite, dragon kick, etc, are the ones that make it off of fusion.

basically once you get kasha you can make your 3 way light or darkness.

    for light it's simple(i actually prefer to do a 4 part, but you can leave off the first gekko if you're not starting your 2hr w/ 100tp)... gekko > yukki(induration) > gekko(frag) > kasha(light)

    for darkness it's jinpu > kasha(grav) > gekko(darkness).

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

Salvage question - In Zhayolm Remnants Poroggo Madame can be spawned in the Northern half or the Southern half of the fourth floor, by reaching the floor within either 30 minutes or 47 minutes respectively. However, according to certain wikis, the Northern one drops some shit and the Usukane 15 feet 100% of the time (which is our target), but the Southern one drops nothing. Can anyone confirm that the southern Poroggo Madame is just some useless NM with no drops whatsoever?

And while we're at it, if anyone has any information/suggestions on methods of obtaining the Usukane 15 feet, please share! Many thanks

4S madame drops nothing, except a chest. It's not totally useless though, since it's a reasonable backup should you get screwed on ranged or rings cells (abort your 2F > Jakko > 3S > 5N plan for popping 6F and switch to 2F > Jakko > 3S > 4S, since you weren't going to be popping 5N anyway, you at least can still pop 6F for those 35s).

As for Usukane feet 15, if you don't have people 2/3 just waiting on the 15 piece to complete, you can do 1F madame instead, either 1F > 2F > Jakko > 5N > 6F if you have a card or 1F > 2F > 3S > 5N > 6F if you don't. It seems to have 100% drop from the pool of the non-body 15s from that zone (so a 1/5 chance of what you're looking for), and there's some info in the Zhayolm thread in Event strategies for how to pop it quickly and effectively with a logout trick. However if people are waiting on just 15s to complete a piece--particularly usu feet--I wouldn't make them wait on chance of 1F, just do a run for 4N. You should have enough time to gear up your tanks for the boss and just do a 4N > boss run, although with practice and luck you can do 4N and still hit 5N, 6F, and boss (or at the very least attempt it and just abort and do 4N > boss if you're low on time when you're on the 3rd floor).

By the way, have someone who isn't entering the group spam clock after the person who is gets the message that they are preparing for entrance. The very last time you get should be the closest approximation to use for gauging when your 30min is up. Clocking once inside and porting up around the 30min mark based on that time won't pop the madame.

4 way for darkness as well simply do kasha > yukki(Detonation) > kasha(grav) > gekko(darkness) comes out with much better damage using loljinpu

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

I need some suggestions/help for my Tarutaru Ranger. This is my first non-mage job, and I would just be using ranger for events and NMs, and absolutely not for merit, since I have Rdm and Brd leveled. Most likely I'll be on ranger only if we're short-handed or zerging. I'm currently level 71. Anything listed afterwards in parenthesis is what I plan to use once I get to that level or *'s for if I get the drop. As for what events and NMs, we've been doing sky, sea, baha2, some kings though mostly behemoth, dynamis, limbus, and may be starting einherjar.

Weapons: Francisca/Hawker's (NQ Fire Staff/Axe Grip)
Ranged: Vali's Bow, Scorpion for TP, Demon for WS/Barrage (NQ Culverin for zerging?)
    Head: O.Hat (Wyvern Helm)
Neck: Ranger's Necklace (Qiqirn Collar, Light Gorget for WS once I get the yovra organs)
    Earrings: Drone/Vision
Body: AF Body (Pahulwan or Denali, though I'll probably borrow an Osode when I can)
Hands: Deadeye Gloves (Crimson Hands*, AF+1* for barrage/Shadowbind once I get the other limbus drop)
Rings: Merman's Rings (Flame/Rajas for WS?)
    Back: Amemet +1
    Belt: Precise Belt
    Legs: Jaridah (Scout's*)
    Feet: War Boots (Scout's*)

I have a Rajas, Suppa, and the mage toau ring. Never got around to doing Apoc Nigh.
Note, I'm definitely going to stop using Scorpions once I finish leveling. I'm just keeping costs down a bit. I have a bit of money to spend, but I'm not looking to top the parsers, since I'm mainly a mage, and almost none of this gear is being used for another job.

When you arrive in Fort take a left. It wasn't in otherwiki until yesterday and I put it in there. I went to BGWiki to put it in there first but couldn't.

Weapons: Francisca/Hawker's (NQ Fire Staff/Axe Grip)
Works well, honestly, don't play with the Fire Staff, and always have at least one full RACC dagger on. (if you're going non /nin, pick up a trailer's, that tiny bit of racc can make a difference, really)

Ranged: Vali's Bow, Scorpion for TP, Demon for WS/Barrage (NQ Culverin for zerging?)
Culverin, yes, always. Demon for TP/Barrage, Kabura for WS, don't gimp yourself the extra damage and hit up some attack down too. You also need to pick up an Othinus' Bow. Don't underestimate the power a crossbow has. I'd also carry around a short delay crossbow (whatever you can afford, it's not that important to toss big money at it) for those quick moments when you've gotta fire that sleep bolt before someone gets killed. Ranger's a lot more than just making things die, ya know. =P

    Head: O.Hat (Wyvern Helm)
Closest thing you can do to Maat's Cap =P But yeah, carry around walmart turban too.

Neck: Ranger's Necklace (Qiqirn Collar, Light Gorget for WS once I get the yovra organs)
The necklace is fine, if anything pick up a Chram when money allows.

    Earrings: Drone/Vision
Sorry, not acceptable. Suppa is a must (and, honestly, the best overall earring) in the end, because even if you say you're just going to be using it for events, you might end up taking it for a stroll in merit-land when you realize the damage potential you have (when you play it right anyway =P). You're not going to want to shoot nonstop--and if you're doing it right now, you're playing Ranger wrong. =/ Crossbow will let you sit inside melee range too, because it doesn't get nerfed as hardcore as Bow does at pointblank. I mean, if my COR did 925 Slugs to Colibri (before any songs/rolls, on sushi, with rolls/songs I pulled a wtf1728 at a range), at point blank, you're going to be able to completely destroy those things, and Mamools too. But, there's a big thing you've gotta have, and it's called Seiryu Kote, because it'll let you eat meat with no issues at all.

Grab an STR earring, grab a Storm Loop from stupid rock walls for meleeing, Brutal Earring too. All necessary. =/ AGI for now though, I guess. And RACC is fine.

Body: AF Body (Pahulwan or Denali, though I'll probably borrow an Osode when I can)
Denali's really good, grab that Osode when you can, don't even bother wasting points on Pahulwan.

Hands: Deadeye Gloves (Crimson Hands*, AF+1* for barrage/Shadowbind once I get the other limbus drop)
Fucking. Seiryu. Kote. Nothing else exists, unless you're actually eating sushi because you can't afford even the ridiculously low chance of a missed Side/Slug. Sure, that wonderful 10 ratk is on Crimson Hands, but your damage blows when you're not on meat on anything but birds. And really, Seiryu Kote make the difference in the end there, allowing your accuracy to still be pretty buff (racc+17.5 by proxy and still +15 AGI) and get the major damage boost from meat.

Rings: Merman's Rings (Flame/Rajas for WS?)
Flame/Rajas for WS, Rajas and Jaeger/cheap acc ring for TPing, Merman/Rajas for when you're only shooting (NMs).

    Back: Amemet +1
    Belt: Precise Belt
Back's fine, but you're gonna need a few belts to go along there. iirc, Precise Belt is like just +racc, right? You've got a lot of +racc elsewhere with what I've said, so you can afford to add some stats here (like Ryl Belt+1/2 or whatever is +2 all stats, or just grab something with big +STR, w/e). This is something you can end up selling for some cash if you need it.

    Legs: Jaridah (Scout's*)
The single, most biggest upgrade right now outside of Osode and Maat's Cap for an RNG, is, imo, Skadi's Chausses. ATK/ACC/RATK/RACC boosts, Store TP+7 is a big deal for your tp from RATK, and still has Haste+2%. Seriously, it's one of the best pieces from Salvage and it's the best legpiece by far for COR, THF, and RNG. Pick one up, work at it hard if you really care about those jobs. I got mine, and my Corsair went from outparsing only gimps on Colibri to outparsing everything but piercing damage jobs. lol, and that was only with melee for TP, no ranged outside of the rare pull and WSes.

    Feet: War Boots (Scout's*)
That's fine, I guess, but if you're doing Salvage for those epic Skadi legs, pick up some feet while you're at it. Decent stats all around (STR+RAcc) and it's got some move speed ftw.

And then I saw this last, and I'm glad you have a Suppa (should have included it in the earrings, geez). I'm really glad you did the smart thing and chose Rajas too, but at least you can switch since that patch forever ago.

Enjoy your Ranger stuffs, and remember that the job, in the end, isn't about doing the most damage. You've got a few things going for you as a Ranger, versus other jobs:

    1. Safe damage over time outside of AoE Range
    2. Ridiculous burst damage available every 5 minutes, in addition to insane damage every two hours (barrage,EES,wing, 3WSes total when you do it right).
    3. Shadowbind for when things go haywire and start getting chaotic and people need a little bit of time to regroup (always carry your af1 hands)
    4. Status bolts/arrows and high ACC to hit them with

People really don't see any of that and think 'omg rng is so weak job' and so common opinion is that it needs to be buffed, because it was the epic win back before 2005. I just hope that you end up, in the end, seeing exactly what you're capable of doing.

Remember, Seiryu Kote, Meat, win the game.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

To Zagex.... In light of the fact that you stated that you'd only be using RNG for HNM, and never for merit, I'm going to have to say I disagree with Geno on a few points. I'll just go ahead and run through the gear myself to give you an idea of what I feel is the most appropriate.

Weapons: I'd say you're on the right track with weapons, on HNM your melee will not get you very far at all, and in many cases you need to think about mob TP gain as well, so yeah... vilcan's staff + axe grip for the win. If you're going to use bow, definitely use Vali's, Ebow, or Selene's. As far as gun goes, remember that cannon shells only stack to 12, so if you're fighting anything that last more than a few minutes, Hellfire+1 with silver bullets will be more inventory friendly. The only reason you'll ever want an obow is for acid bolts, sleep bolts rarely work on HNM, and iirc there are sleep arrows anyways, just go get a loxley bow if it matters that much to you.

Head: Wyvern's Helm for low evasion, ohat for high. Never wear haste on your RNG as it has no effect on ranged attacks. If you get a chance to lot on a AF2 hat, it's nice to have around sometimes, it will help cut costs in extremely long and drawn out battles.

Body: Osode all the way. Avoid that -10 r.acc body like it's the black death. If by some complete miracle you're able to get your hands on a Kyudogi+1, that's a nice piece too.

Hands: Blood finger gauntlets reign supreme, the NQ and s.kote would get switched around depending on mob evasion.

Legs: AF2 will be the most likely candidate for here.

Feet: Same deal, AF2 is the most reasonable choice. Since you have BRD and RDM 75, I doubt you'll be trying for skadi any time soon.

Back: Amemet+1 is a great all around DD back, useful for melee jobs as well as ranger.

Waist: Most ideal would be AF waist or the belt from einherjar. Presice belt is a decent alternative though.

Earrings: You're definitely going to want a cassie earring, especially as a taru. You'll have the 50 MP automatically from osode and crimson hands, and it has +1 STR as well. Leave your Suppa at home along with your NIN sub, /SAM is what all the cool kids do. For the other earring, vision or triumph, take your pick based on mob evasion. The earring from Pulling the Strings is neat too.

Rings: I personally prefer Merman's over other r.acc alternatives because it gives you -magic damage, and on HNM that's always very handy. On things very easy to hit however, I will pop on Rajas and Flame Ring.

Neck: Either peacock charm or Hope Torque would be ideal, with breeze/light gorget for WS of course. Speaking of WS, as RNG has no potential to enhance ranged attack speed via gear, this piece is the only thing you should be changing for WS. All of the same things that determine your accuracy and damage when TPing will be in effect for WS as well of course.
So gimping your r.acc to whore out STR when you're eating meat on say, Nidhogg, will leave you with sadface.

I gave him melee gear anyway, and pretty much tried to point him in a direction towards a combination that works decently for both.

Weapons: I'd say you're on the right track with weapons, on HNM your melee will not get you very far at all, and in many cases you need to think about mob TP gain as well, so yeah... vilcan's staff + axe grip for the win. He also said events, and that means Dynamis among other things, and Salvage and the like possibly too. Which at least Salvage (because Acid bolts in dynamis are lofuckingl) Acid Bolts are quite, quite useful. The reasoning for Axe/Dagger with /nin is because, quite frankly, I'm not personally going to equip +5STR and +10ATK or w/e it was 15 idr in a slot where I'd end up losing 21 RACC for it, or if I wanted to go all the way, 28 RACC, which in the end, you can get more of a benefit out of using meat than sushi... so I liked to take RACC gear over RATK/STR because missing a Side or Slug is making the fact you're using meat pointless over the course of anywhere from 3-6 shots. He also said NMs, in general, and things you can do with smalls groups might end up popping up too (ranger's a lot more useful than a lot of people think, I've been trying to beat this into too many people's heads lately). So, it's best to have a full range of weaponry at your disposal. Bring your Culverin only when you know you're going to have to go hardcore, otherwise carry around your Bow and your Crossbow, always.

Head: Wyvern's Helm for low evasion, ohat for high. Never wear haste on your RNG as it has no effect on ranged attacks. If you get a chance to lot on a AF2 hat, it's nice to have around sometimes, it will help cut costs in extremely long and drawn out battles.
Wyvern Helm for WS only, sometimes O-hat, always TP anyway in o-hat or something with RATK on it (like your af1 hat or the like). STR+5 is cool, but I'm pretty certain that over time you're getting more benefit out of your AF1 hat than that in terms of damage. And if you're doing something that you're actually meleeing, you best be wearing turban.

Body: Osode all the way. Avoid that -10 r.acc body like it's the black death. If by some complete miracle you're able to get your hands on a Kyudogi+1, that's a nice piece too.
Kyudogi is pretty good if you get one that falls into your lap, but don't pay for it. AF1 is acceptable. Denali Body is pretty cool. Skadi Body is nice. Osode is king of WS.

Hands: Blood finger gauntlets reign supreme, the NQ and s.kote would get switched around depending on mob evasion.
+1 RACC and +1 RATK are much less than the benefit you get out of Kote when you're eating meat. Make a graph of your own data from your missed sidewinders/slugs and your total RACC and AGI and mobs and things. You really need to check out where getting RATK instead of RACC/AGI benefits you more than not missing. Every barrage you miss early on, every WS you miss, is much bigger than those few points of attack you're giving up by going the accuracy route. Be careful.

Legs: AF2 will be the most likely candidate for here.
Yeah, but in order of utility, Skadi > Dusk > AF2 > w/e.

Feet: Same deal, AF2 is the most reasonable choice. Since you have BRD and RDM 75, I doubt you'll be trying for skadi any time soon.
Skadi feet fall from the sky like they don't mean crap. At least they did for us, anyway. Unless you already nuke hardcore on RDM, don't bother with Morrigan--most of it is a waste to RDM unless you have AF2 hat, except for the feet and hands. But if you actually nuke, then it's a completely different story... (and yes, the legs weren't mentioned because the drop rate is complete shit and you'll never get one, kekekeke)

Back: Amemet+1 is a great all around DD back, useful for melee jobs as well as ranger.

Waist: Most ideal would be AF waist or the belt from einherjar. Presice belt is a decent alternative though.
Pends on where you're at... STR2 AGI2 RATK5/6? is a lot better than what you've been suggesting in terms of using a slot/slots for attack and stats that you give up RACC in.

Earrings: You're definitely going to want a cassie earring, especially as a taru.
    bullshitttttttttttttttttt
your HP doesn't matter on ranger anyway because you shouldn't be taking damage and when you do you're good as dead anyway

You'll have the 50 MP automatically from osode and crimson hands, and it has +1 STR as well.
Yay 1str for more than you can get an str2 earring crafted for (probably, haven't checked rates since January), yay!

Leave your Suppa at home along with your NIN sub
or just carry it around anyway 'cause you have plenty of gear

/SAM is what all the idiot kids do
weigh the benefits of +25%ish damage per ranged shot and WS over getting one more WS (with the chance to miss it!) every 3:00 (yes, I factored in store TP for you, you're welcome) that you probably won't need to WS that fast anyway. ATK Bonus, Berserk, Warcry vs. Meditate(at 60loltp) and some Store TP. Fuck that noise. And don't even try to talk about Seigan with a staff. That's just a silly argument that only four year olds (and noobs) might think is worth a damn.

For the other earring, vision or triumph, take your pick based on mob evasion. The earring from Pulling the Strings is neat too.
I don't remember what the earring from that is, so I can't really try to burn it to the ground right now and I don't feel like looking it up, but it's probably halfway decent. You can go with RACC if you like, but if you picked RACC in the rest of the slots where you can pick up more than 3RACC for 2STR on ratios, then you might want to fill in a Triumph right here. Vision/Triumph isn't bad for WS if it's both your earrings though, but I always just WS'd in Suppa/Triumph 'cause I was a lazy bastard.

Rings: I personally prefer Merman's over other r.acc alternatives because it gives you -magic damage, and on HNM that's always very handy.
on wyrms that you shouldn't be on Ranger for, ok, and everything else why the hell are you in aoe range for more than 5 seconds?

On things very easy to hit however, I will pop on Rajas and Flame Ring.
    yay acceptable

Neck: Either peacock charm or Hope Torque would be ideal, with breeze/light gorget for WS of course. Speaking of WS, as RNG has no potential to enhance ranged attack speed via gear, this piece is the only thing you should be changing for WS. All of the same things that determine your accuracy and damage when TPing will be in effect for WS as well of course.
Yeah, but there's actually different gear you should be using, but that's ok if you don't understand it. I haven't even listed all of it and the reasons why in my post, i.e. note I didn't say Blood gauntlets were completely silly (because for TPing it's pretty gewd! and then WS in kote).

So gimping your r.acc to whore out STR when you're eating meat on say, Nidhogg, will leave you with sadface.
So missing all your Side/Slugs at low TP when you could use them if you had the right gear will leave you with sad face too.

He's got the right idea for the most part, I have the right idea too, for the most part--take a mix, take things for a spin for yourself, and figure out what works for you.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

What should I merit on blm? Most likely going full burst2 and lightning porency but whatabout remaining merits? Take 3 more tier2 AMs or merit another one to full?

Also do job specific merits count if you're using the job as subjob? I guess no.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

job specific merits apply only to when that job is set to your main.

as a blm, i have burst, freeze, flood and tornado. eventually(ie, once i finish str and mp) i'll put another merit into both burst and freeze. if you don't do kirin or sea regularly, you can skip tornado, but it is really a very nice, powerful spell for mobs like kirin and jailer of faith, or earth based ghrahs, etc. burst and freeze are manditory, the other two are strongly strongly suggested.

    Re: Randomer Question Thread

From a purely BLM perspective, since I don't know what other jobs you have that have taken up certain merit categories, I would prioritize upgrading as follows:

First tier: Unlock Burst II 1/3, unlock Freeze II 1/3
Second tier: Elemental magic, Ice potency, Lightning potency
Third tier: MP, INT, Enfeebling magic
Fourth tier: Finish Cat II, Enmity-

I would do first tier before any others, but I wouldn't necessarily do all of second tier before third/fourth, this is just how I personally would roughly prioritize them.

Just as an example, if I were to have just hit 75 BLM, it was still my only job, and I didn't plan on levelling any others in the near future, I'd probably do:
    Freeze 1/3 > Burst 1/3 > Ele 1/8 > Ice 1/5 > Ltng 1/5 > Ele 2/8 > Ice 2/5 > Ltng 2/5 > Ele 3/8 > Ice 3/5 > Ltng 3/5 > Ele 4/8 > MP 1/8 > INT 1/5 > Enf 1/8 > MP 2/8 > Enf 2/8 > Ele 5/8 > Ice 4/5 > Ltng 4/5 > Ele 6/8 > MP 3/8 > Enf 3/8 > Ele 7/8 > Ice 5/5 > Ltng 5/5 > Ele 8/8 > MP 4/8 > Enf 4/8 > MP 5/8 > Enf 5/8 > INT 2/5 > MP 6/8 > Enf 6/8 > MP 7/8 > Enf 7/8 > INT 3/5 > MP 8/8 > Enf 8/8 > INT 4/5 > Enm- 1/4 > INT 5/5 > Enm- 2/4 > Freeze 2/3 > Burst 2/3 > Enm- 3/4 > Freeze 3/3 > Burst 3/3 > Enm- 4/4

Others will dispute this order, but I don't mean to suggest that's how you should necessarily do it. It's just that as you upgrade, future upgrades of the same type are marginally less beneficial for considerably higher limit point costs, so it makes sense to spread them out a little. Also it's nice in my view to mix in some of the low-cost less-important upgrades when you reach the higher levels of the more important ones, just for the gratification since meritting to me--especially on BLM--is such a chore. The only exception here is INT which it's good to mix in earlier or else it will hang over your head after you've finished everything else you could possibly merit and you may never get around to it then, so it's good to get it out of the way somewhat early.

Even though I put 3/3 burst/freeze in there, others will say they did some other AM2s like Flood 1/3 or unlocked all. That's fine, this is just what I'd do but you probably want to tailor how you finish those upgrades based on what you do the most or enjoy doing the most. Also I have 8 Blue magic instead of 8 Enfeebling but I think most people would agree that all other things aside like additional jobs, 8 ele and 8 enf is the best route if you're only considering your BLM.

To Geno - Honestly I use /WAR sub every chance I can get away with it, and only /SAM when people insist I need a defensive sub. However, with both of these subs you can't dual wield, so you're only giving up 14 or less r.acc for 8 STR and 10 r.att, as well as 20 more HP.

But yeah, we're just going to have to agree to disagree on a few minor points, OP need to figure a few things out for himself.
