Ebisu Fishing Rod Question

Hey all you fishermen: I have a few questions about this quest. I do not yet have enough guild points to buy the key item "Sea Serpent Rumors," and I realize that to obtain the Ebisu rod I first have to have this key item. My question is: if I trade Lik and Gugrusaurus to Zoldon for the "Inside the Belly" quest in order to get the two Rare/Ex items that are used to obtain the rod, can I still obtain the Rare/Ex items even though I don't have the key item "Sea Serpent Rumors" yet? Basically what I want to know is: is it possible to get the two Rare/Ex items by trading fish in now, before I get the key item "Sea Serpent Rumors," so that I have them ready to turn in by the time I get the key item?

I checked the 14 page post. Minions posted asking "can i turn in liks and gugrus before i get sea serpent rumors?" and someone said "you can't catch those fish without the key item."

But I'm asking a slightly different question.

My question is, can i BUY the liks and gugrus and get them gutted in the Inside the Belly quest from Zaldon and receive the two Rare/Ex items BEFORE i get the "Sea Serpent Rumors" key item.

In other words, is getting the Sea Serpent Rumors key item and starting the Indomitable Spirit quest a trigger for Zaldon to be able to find the two Rare/Ex items from Lik/Gugrusaurus, or can I get the two Rare/Ex items by getting AH Lik/Gugrus gutted by Zalon, save them in my inventory til I get SSR key item, and then trade them in to finish the quest and get the rod.

In other words, will Zaldon be unable to find Saber Shoot / Opal Silk if I haven't started the Indomitable Spirit (Ebisu Rod) quest yet? To put it differently, would I be wasting tons of gil buying Liks/Gugrus and gutting them before I get Sea Serpent Remnants and start Indomitable spirit quest, or can I get the Shoot/Silk now and get the Key item / Start the quest later?

I know it's kind of a complicated question I hope it is more clear now--just trying to figure out if the Indomitable spirit quest and Inside the Belly Shoot/Silk results are totally independent so I can periodically buy Liks/Gugrus on my way to getting my Sea Serpent Rumors key item.

lol... I think you're missing the point, it's a fishing thread for fishing questions... any question about fishing.

When has a GP item ever been a requirment for a quest? SR allows you to catch them yes, but there's nothing to stop you buying them and trading them in. From what I've seen people don't really do that though.

As far as I know you must have the Sea Serpent Rumors key item in order to begin the Indomitable Spirit (Ebisu Rod) quest.

Does anyone have a definite answer for this? (i.e. has anyone traded in a Lik/Gugru and obtained Shoot/Silk before they started the Indomitable Spirit quest?)

Short answer: Nobody has been brave enough to try. Based on Titanicus averages it would take about 11M to 'buy' the ebisu on my server. Nobody really wants to chance turning in 11M gil if there is a doubt about being able to receive the rare/ex items.

Listen I'm the first person to jump in peoples shit here, but cmon guys its a legit question. I dont fish but id guess that its not a requirement because there really isnt much of a precedent on any other quests of the like.
