    Re: LOST Season 4

I think the "6" are just a cover

Either they're the only ones that survived, and everyone else died, or they are covering up and leaving them on the island due to its power, or it can be the people who are now on the island are holding them (I know it sounds retarded but...this is Lost we are talking about, 5896790 scenarios Go!)

I dont know why I get the feeling when Kate says I have to get back to him (in the season 3 finale), most are thinking its Sawyer, to me it looks like she may have Claire's baby (I highly doubt it would look good if they killed a baby on the show)

Jack, Kate, Huggo are the "6" we already know, Im thinking Sayid, and Sun, Jin are the other 3
Sun will die if she gives birth on the island, and Jin is her man, so... and Sayid maybe, because he is 1 determined Mofo

The guy in the casket maybe be Micheal

Am I the only person a little annoyed/let down by the flash forwards? It almost feels as if we know how the characters are going to end up. Like they gave away the ending. I somehow don't think the "how" will be as entertaining.

    Re: LOST Season 4

    I disagree!

The way a story entices you is by revealing some, and hiding the rest. The typical formula of a movie is "Hide end, keep movie going on in a straight line".

Seasons 1 2 3 of lost were like this :

    | represents timeline
    - represents blank because spacebars get omitted in phpbb3.

    ||||---Crash||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| |------------------>continue

Season 4 seems to be doing this :

    ||||---Crash||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| |---------------------------------------------------------------------End of Lost|||-------------Flashforwards|

There still is the part of the plot that's concealed, but now instead of moving the timeline at present, they're not really showing you the end, but they're actually showing what looks almost to be an epilogue of the show.
The ending still hasn't been revealed, we're still guessing what has happened, there's still the questioning on what's up with Robert, why the others behave like so, where is Team Locke and Team Jack going to end up, etc. However this time, with them hinting us to the end, we also get a new set of questions which are "What cause X event to happen in Y's flashforward?"

They're definitely experimenting, I have a feeling that's what these episodes were about, and if/when lost is picked up again, they'll see who liked it or not. I'm enjoying flashforwards but I can see how it's not everyone's cup of tea (change after a long time usually puts an uneasy feeling on people).

Yeah, I'm not saying it's bad. It's just not my cup o' tea, but I'll still happily watch the show. Maybe the backwards-ness of the show is why I didn't enjoy Memento as much as I could have.

For anyone interested, there was an Lost ARG this off season called "Find 815" that revolved around the guy in that Oceanic commercial. A summary can be found here. Basically, they are searching for the Black Rock, but stumble upon Oceanic 815 in the Sundra Trench.

I think the Flash Forwards provide a really interesting perspective on the story. For instance, the end of the episode last night had Hurley telling Jack that he regrets having sided with Locke on the island, which completely throws what had happened 5 minutes earlier on its head. You're lead to believe that Hurley has just "saved" a large number of the people by going with Locke and running from the "rescuers", but suddenly that decision is shown in the future as having been a mistake, with the obvious implication that shit is about to go down next episode.

The flashforwards also strongly suggested that something very, very damning happened on the island that the "6" don't want exposed, and that its not just Jack that feels like they have to go back (Jack tells Hurley hes thinking of growing a beard, the flash forward from last year showed a beared Jack screaming at Kate that they have to go back, etc).

The only problem, and I think its probably one of the reasons they only let 6 off the island, is that you have to be really careful who you show alive in the future, since it obviously means they aren't in jeopardy of dying in the present. Done properly and carefully, they can give insight and perspective to the events in the present and basically contradict what you'd expect would happen at any given moment. What I love about Lost is that its completely unpredictable because of its sci-fi elements, and that at any given moment the entire story can be thrown for a loop.

Opening was awesome, just pissed off that its only 8 instead of 16 episodes. Ben was hilarious too. "I probably should've told you she took the radio and found the actual path earlier, but I figured I owed you for kicking my ass."

I don't disagree. I'll give the flash forwards another chance and give the show some time to flesh it out and see where they are going with it. I think so long as we find out answers to the questions we all have:

    1. What do the damn numbers mean? (I'm pretty sure the producers said this would never be answered)

    2. What's the rest of the deal with the dharma initiative? What about the original inhabitants of the island? Who the hell are they?

    3. Who the hell is Jacob?

    4. What the hell is the smoke monster?

    5. Is Jack's dad alive? Will Claire and Jack find out they are brother and sister?

    6. Etc. etc. etc.

There's so much I'd like to see answered, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. Producers these days think it's artsy to not tie up shows neatly after introducing a million plot-lines/side-stories. Always what worries me was how Alias started off an awesome show and JJ Abrams let the writers back themselves into a corner. The last few seasons were terrible. I hope Lost has learned from Alias' mistakes.

Alias simply lost its way. It started out as a kick-ass CIA/spy show with interesting plots, nice action, and the promise of real character development. The story revolving around Sydney internally destroying SD-6, an organization she originally believed to be a part of the CIA, the same organization that executed her fiancee, just made for some really great television.

As soon as it become a fate of the universe/mystical artifact never ending Rambaldi saga, I just lost interest in the series. But I think that my expectations are very different with Lost, which is much more clearly a science fiction show, so I can suspend my disbelief far easier when something impossible happens on the island.

I got the impression that when that one Oceanic Lawyer guy asked Hurley "Are they still alive?" that the passengers who aren't part of the "Oceanic 6" are still alive on the island... and the 6 realize they need to go back >.>

I liked how Ben asked if he could go with Locke, because you know, he put a bullet in Locke during season 3... it shows how terrified he is of the "boaties".

"Until the day Locke decided decided to see if they didnt enter the code. It wasn't a good idea"

I loved the recaps episode. Narratation is awesome, but I have no clue why.

Even if we know the future, Lost is still anything but predictable. As long they do it right, I have no problem with flashforward or flashback.

They have lasted so long doing it right, it's hard to imagine they are going to screw up at this point. I'm not worried about that

Premiere are usually closing the plot twist you saw at the end of the finale (or mid season). That's probably why they always feel like this. Lost shines the most when there is wtf moment, and those episodes will rarely introduce new element.

Personally, I loved it. Set the mood for the rest of the season.

That wasn't really a lawyer from the Airline. I'm guessing he was either another member of the boat team (maybe however the 6 got off the island involved taking their boat and leaving the people on it behind) or maybe it will turn out to be something from the island. When he was talking I kept thinking of the apparition that Ecko saw of his brother, didn't help his eyes looked red lol.

I do believe, as somebody else above mentioned, this takes place before the flashforward from the finale. As stated, Jack said he was thinking about growing the beard, and he didn't want to go back to the island. I guess something happens that changes that. I think this might have also answered the question of who died in the finale flashfoward, maybe it was Hurley. Charlie popping up and devil men trying to kidnap you might make you a little unstable, and he's already in a mental hospital (again). Edit: Nvm about this.

We have also learned that it is, in fact, impossible to kill John Locke.

I think it was good for a season opener. I think you'll like the next episode alot since it seems like it'll be more in tune with your idea of a season opener.

I like the Flash Forwards as well since it makes you even more curious about what happened during the unaccounted for time. (Hurley went with Locke, but in the future he sys he regrets it. WTF happened to make him say that!? - That kinda thing)
