The annoying part is where someone asks a legitimate question and the only response is "Shit is situational"Originally Posted by ACEJester
Oh yes, I realize things are situational! Might I ask which situations it is better to use this in, and which situations it is better to use that in- perhaps that may indeed be helpful rather than just saying that things are situational!
I completely agree. However, when someone says something is situational (especially something as much as weapons), and explains such situations, I don't see a problem with letting the person know that their setup/weapon/spell/dildo is not useful in all areas. As I said, the actualy phrase itself is quite old, but it does (minus possibly the use of "shit") have a proper place in a post depending on the OP.Originally Posted by Rocl
It might sound like an obvious thing, but I see plenty of Samurai or Red Mages using a paticular piece of gear full time during a HNM that really is only useful in a meripo, or the other way around (You don't need 330+ enfeebling skill to land slow on a mamool >_>). Of course it applies to other jobs as well, but those are the only two that I activly play or give advice on.
Though, I will admit "Pro"s quote might not be the best use, but at least it wasn't the only thing he wrote (like some other posts around these areas).
I myself have 8/8 Axe, 6/8 Sowrd, and 6/8 GAXE. Here's what I've come to believe in my own experience.
Merit mobs, no matter whether it be Birds or Mamool's I have found that Man/Joy always gets the best results, especially on Birds. Wether I have a bard or not doesn't matter I will always use Man/Joy now in merit parties. W/O a bard I simply just add in a little more acc and unfortunately have to sacfrifice a little haste, but not much.
In events such as Limbus Man/Joy seems to do exceptionally well to, altho at times I like to come /thf and use GAXE cause it's just more fun.
In Sky if you're gonna Dual Wield, Wood/Man, altho I never had a Jugger and haven't used IR so can't really comment on those but found that Joy Toy just doesn't seem to cut it on mobs up there.
HNM I find it really pointless to Dual Weild. You just won't get close to the results if you were to use GAXE. If we get to start on a mob with TP I'd start with Byakko's then switch to M.Bhuj right after my first ws. I just don't think that DW can compare to 2H weapons when it comes to mobs like this.
i will never take a /nin 2hander to a merit pt. that's ridiculous. in fact i won't take a war/nin at all without a ridill
i never said anything about /nin. and loljoyeuse
i don't even have war leveled, i take rdm to merits. and i think /nin is shit. who cares if you're taking more damage. /nin melees have me standing around with full mp. /sam turns my mp into increased xp/hr
and madrigal sucks
lol'ed at that.Originally Posted by shaddix

You do realize that a good axe/axe WAR is better than a mediocre Ridill WAR right?
I quit before the 2h update so been kind of out of the loop on all the fixes.. has gaxe gotten that much better that I'd have more success war/sam vs war/nin with ridill? I have capped skill merits for both sword/gaxe
Those are the main posts I'm addressing, this topic isn't really the best one for me to vent in about that sort of thing but it had to be said somewhere >_>Originally Posted by ACEJester
I LOL'd really hard at this to. You act as if you're a God thinking that you should only be in the presence of Ridill WARS. GTFO. You remind me of all these noobs seeking for patries rank 5 and 6 who have {Experience points} {Yes please} {/no} {Bard} {No Thanks}. Really who the hell do you think you are?Originally Posted by shaddix
Saying that /Sam is gonna generate more exp/hr is bullshit as well. For now 20-25k exp/hr seems to be the cap, and /Sam will not change that. They might kill a mob slightly faster which means that you're going to be sitting around waiting for another mob to pop up in that place slightly longer which results in the loss of the chain.
Being /Nin in an exp party is very helpful, keeps me alive and no matter how you look at it a War/Nin with Man/Joy will most likely out perform a War/Sam in the long run. War/Sam might produce more spike damage but my overall DoT will crush him.
So get off your high horse stop pretending that you're better then everyone and realize that a War who knows how to play their job and is geared towards that play style is gonna be able to perform with todays expectations in most given roles.
Wow... just wow. That has to be, by far, the most idiotic thing said this week.No matter how you look at it a War/Nin with Man/Joy will most likely out perform a War/Sam in the long run. War/Sam might produce more spike damage but my overall DoT will crush him.
And your reason being? I am talking about merit party situation here and I really fail to see how you believe it would be the othe rway around.
Because you made a ignorant statement, anyone who has properly used WAR/SAM realizes that the damage is comparable to that of a Ridill WAR. And if you properly use Seigan you won't eat much MP compared to /NIN. You must have merited with some really crappy WAR/SAMs =/Originally Posted by Aragon of Odin
That's just your opinion, just as my post was my opinion. War/Sam can play a good role I just don't see it as being a better option in merit parties. I see my six shadows to start off with is more helpful then what /Sam has to offer, and in overall DoT over a period of 1-2 hrs I think that Dual Weilding surpasses 2H weapons. The only exception to this that I haven't had experience with would be if the War/Sam was using Fort. Axe. That I can't comment on but at the same time it's not something that everyone has available to them as well.
you dunno what you're talking about
and lol at your shadows, good support can keep up with seigan TE quite easily
edit: ni and ichi take time to cast as well, TE does not. so "starts casting utsusemi" turns into damage and TP
It's not really an opinion. Facts are pretty clear that a WAR/SAM with similar quality gear and similar skill to a WAR/NIN will outparse the latter by a rather decent margin. A Ridill WAR built just as well will of course win, and can be a compared to a well built MNK/WAR (which everyone seems to underestimate).Originally Posted by Aragon of Odin
Perdu Voulge is quite broken on WAR/SAM.
I don't doubt a war/sam would out DD a man/joyeuse. I go war/nin with GaX on occasion aid its already murder. The extra damage from Hasso and Meditate is just insane.
I usually go sword/sword (since I have Ridill) for most events, unless its high defense mobs then i'll use axe. Personally i don't like using axe, mainly because i have no merits in axe. All of my merits are in Dagger & Sword. I got a question since we're discussing GaX. For XP PT, Steel Cyclone or Raging Rush? I have a Martial Bhuj, and i'm not sure if i should keep it or sell for Perdue or just get both. I'd prefer not to get both, since i like my ISP and i'm rarely ever on warrior.
From what I understand, Steel Cyclone if you're using Martial, and Raging Rush if you're using any other great axe. Raging Rush is much stronger at lower TP.Originally Posted by vagus

from my experience with perdu, 100 or 200% SC will only outdamage 100% RR if you get a DA proc or you have some crappy luck with misses. martial at 100% only brings your steel cyclone mod from 1.5 to 1.75 and that still wont beat most 100% rr with perdu. thats for exp/small stuff, id imagine martial sc is better on hnm but ive never been able to take war to anything
Not true, as far as what you believe to be the cap exp/hr is.Originally Posted by Aragon of Odin
Over 30k/h is possible, and in my honest opinion I believe if anything the cap is about 35k/h fighting at Mamool Ja Staging point. With the only limiting factor being mob respawn time and the distance of pulls. Otherwise, I'd even believe close to 40k/h was possible.
Personally I've seen about 30-32k/h across 5 different PTs now. All of which were lacking some major points towards perfection and maximizing exp/h, whether it being a PT member DC'ing for a long period or competing with other PTs or not having equally decked DDs or there being a death, etc.
In terms of the OP, I find few merit circumstances that warrant going axe/axe instead of axe/joy. Only one where man/jug may be better is trolls, and not many parties go there anymore. Its quite possible to get close to acc cap with axe/joy and semi-decent gear (except THF mamool, they just suck) and most merit mobs don't need the extra atk.
But either way I'm liking GAxe more than dual-wield setups.
And for the whole /NIN sucks with GAxe, I'd prefer the protection of shadows, especially when wyverns can take you out in one fang rush.
