It's funny, because, I saw the movie, and I know just as much about it as a person who only watched the trailer.
I still liked it. Different perspective, nice tone, no silly happy endings.

Just got back from seeing it as well. A lot of people who say "This movie sucked" were probably expecting some kind of grand epic fight scene like straight out of Godzilla. There is a reason that the movie was in first person and not third person.
If you were in their place, you'd be feeling the same fear, anxiety, and desperation. You wouldn't be sitting there waiting for the epic fight scene where the army blows the shit out of whatever the hell that thing is supposed to be.
It's about connecting with the characters, and ultimately experiencing the same sense of loss. At least that's what I took from the movie.
I wouldn't say it was amazing, but it was worth the 10$ imo.
Great. Just when I didn't think I could get ANY more freaked out. Thanks! I'm a corny bastard, cuz I KNOW I was thinking that entire time the monster was fucking shit up: "Hmmm what IF this kinda shit DID happen..."Originally Posted by Noobta
It was a pretty decent movie, not that many complaints from me... One problem I found was just that I sorta felt dizzy once in a while with the constant camera shaking. They left the movie very open at the end, and with that very last clip... There's definitely going to be a sequel, just not with the same last two characters in this movie.
So umm, I just got done watching the Cloverfield knockoff called "Monster." I can stand B rated horror flicks, but this was probably the worst film I've ever seen.
Follows somewhat the same plot, two chicks who travel to Japan, only to find themselves some stuck in a warpath caused by some fire breathing squid (they showed actual monster footage for about 3 frames) All the while you're essentially watching the flick through a handheld camera which shakes/goes blank/blurs the whole shebang.
If anyone knows about nabolister, I'd suggest checking it out for the lulz if not anything.
Just got back, movie was awesome.
Only complaint was the first person camera footage gave me a headache. I am still deciding if they could have kept the intensity and gone to omnipotent camera mode.
Either way, fantastic.
My bet is alien bio weapon.
Fucking great movie. Loved the film style really gave it that POV type thing rather then epic shots of the monster. Pissed i didnt stay till the end.
overall 8/10
it could have been a bit longer, and shown more like "Oh fuck big thing shoot at it" and it could have cut down the party scene.
just got back from the film. loved it!
To me this is exactly how Godzilla should be. Really gives you a feel as to what it would be like if a monster attacked NYC.
I don't care about back plot imo. It's actually the film's greatest feature imo. Rather than the audience getting an outside look into what's going on, you're right there with the characters the whole time, and only ever know what they know (which is much more realistic).
Camera did make me dizzy sometimes but didn't bother me since I knew it was for realiztic affect.
Defintely was a great movie.
I agree on the headache part, I got a little motion-sick on some scenes, had to half-watch the screen at times. (yeah I know Im walking rightinto this one, Im fully prepared for the onslaught)Originally Posted by Neosutra
(Re: Bold) I dont think that the intensity could have been kept. When they're making a run for it to the subway and they both get seperated, and he's yelling at the guy with the camera and you can only faintly hear what he's saying...then they all run and just nearly make it into the subway entrance as the thing looms above them. That scene no joke, would have been 100 times less intense if not shot in the first person perspective.
I haven't seen this, but how can you say this movie ripped off another movie which was released today? Also, I just looked up IMDB and there isn't a single film called "Monster" which fits that description.Originally Posted by blister1
Anyway, I haven't seen Cloverfield, and never really had any inclination to see it (movies are released in January for a reason), but I just wanted to say one thing.
I've seen multiple references to J.J. Abrams, and while the trailers have certainly hyped up his name, keep in mind this is because no one else associated with the movie is of any relevance to audiences whatsoever. He was one of four different producers tied to the movie, and as such didn't contribute a whole lot to the final product, or at least not enough to be about the only person to refer to when discussing "creative visions" or whatever.

as would this one, i'd imagine! (see: quote)
only video i could find on the web, and probably will be taken down soon, so click fast
Monster isn't really spoiled seeing as all you can see in that video is basically it's outline. Not much detail on a phone camera.
The camera was intentionally shaking throughout the movie because it was supposed to be from the point of view of the cameraman... and yet, it was STILL far easier to focus, and follow than the Bourne movies.
Saw it tonight. Aside from the assholes in the theater who wouldn't shut the fuck up, I really enjoyed the movie.
I know its a stretch, but I seeing crowbar + thingies that looked like hl2 antlions made me![]()
Damnit, I need to see this. I completely missed it. I am going to bed and hope there are links when I wake up :>Originally Posted by GraveRobberX

Movie was as epic as I expected, and oh man
@ Hud.
it exists, and it is a rip off. its from a company that makes a living off spoofing major releases i.e. Snakes on a Train, Transmorphers, I am Omega. they are called mockumentaries or something like that.Originally Posted by Valacirca

So i just got back from it, I really liked it BUT
My brother (who also saw it with me) just talked to another friend that lives in another state about the movie...And he explained a pretty different movie >.>. I didn't hear him first hand, but my brother said that our friend said the version he saw barely showed any footage of the monster and explained why the monster attacked...
Two scenarios here:
1) He is bullshitting us
2) There are 2+ version of this movie, possibly played depending on theater?
Anyone else get this too?

And holy shit, I've seen Transmorphers. I wouldn't call these movies mockumentaries (a mockumenary is a fake documentary made for the purpose of comedy, like Spinal Tap and Best of Show), they are seriously just making shitty low budget ripoffs of high profile movies in an attempt to leech off of the other film's success. Transmorphers was ridiculously bad, and not always in the "that's so horrible that its hilarious" way, which is what I was hoping for when renting it. It was mostly the kind of bad that is accompanied with lots of pain.
The "transmorpher" robot scenes were pretty fucking funny though.
