I liked the film. I saw it for free (quicksilverscreen), but I would not have felt cheated if I had paid money at the theater for it, maybe just a little dizzy. I *love* movies like this, War of the Worlds (and the new Dawn of the Dead) gave the same feeling of helplessness and defeat, and of the unknown. Where films like this go wrong is in the se/prequels, because the story is almost always disappointing. Movies like these are scary because the threat is mysterious. When it fails to be so, our level of anxiety falls and it isn't as interesting.

I hope that, if they do have a second one coming out, that the writer and director will find a good way to retain the anxiety level while giving answers and not feel the need for a solution. Doomed societies are pretty scary notions.

BTW I love how a bunch of emo whiners come on here to troll and express feelings nobody gives a crap about, especially in a thread mainly full of people who enjoyed it.

There's been so much going on with the viral marketing backstory that I thought it might be a good idea to do a quick summary to get everyone up to speed.

We start with our main man, Rob, and his friends. Via MySpace, we discovered that Rob has decided to take a job overseas with Slusho. This is most likely due to his unrequited feelings for Beth who has been dating other people. His friends, including Hawk, Hud, Marlena, and Lily, have decided to throw a going away party for him on January 17th.

Meanwhile, one of Rob and Marlena's friends Jamie, has been having romantic problems of her own. Her boyfriend Teddy, who she has been sending video messages to periodically, has disappeared. She assumes it's because he's found someone else, but a package she received from him indicates he was wrapped up in a "cause" bigger than that. She disregards his recorded pleas for help, even going so far as to eat "evidence" that he sent her which he specifically said not to eat and to keep frozen. This evidence was most likely a sample of deep sea nectar, the secret ingredient to Slusho.

Slusho and the deep sea nectar are the products of a mega corporation named Tagruato. The company has its fingers in a lot of different pies, including deep sea drilling and space satellites. Recently, the company has found itself at odds with a group of eco-radicals calling themselves TIDOWave. TIDOWave sees Tagruato as a threat and had planned to raid the newest offshore drilling station Tagruato had set up; a station known as the Chuai station. It has been hinted that TIDOWave is the "cause" that Teddy was working for, and his disappearance may be the direct result of what recently happend at Chuai. Their raid was ill-timed, as they were onboard Chuai when it vanished.

This brings us to recent events. The Chuai station was completely destroyed by an unknown force. Prior to its destruction, an earthquake was detected nearby and Tagruato had posted in a press release that a piece of a satellite had fallen in the Atlantic Ocean. The catasrophe at the station was recorded by multiple sources and was the topic of international news releases that appeared over the weekend on YouTube. Of special note is in the footage of the collapse of the station a loud roar is heard repeatedly (one which we should all recognize by now). After the station disappeared underwater, large pieces of debris were forcefully ejected vertically from the water. They looked like they were blown or shot upwards by mean unknown at this time.

Tagruato blames TIDOWave for the disaster, but it's apparent that the radicals don't have the means to demolish a station like that. In fact, they posted up themselves that they were surprised the station was just -gone-. In the aftermath, Tagruato has been hunting down TIDOWave and have sent the remaining members into hiding (as most of the radicals were onboard the station when it collapsed and their whereabouts are unknown).

So, for us, that means that we've had our first appearance of the Cloverfield monster that will arrive in NYC for Rob's party. Why it woke up, why it destroyed Chuai, and why it proceeds on to New York are still a mystery. However, what we do have is the classic setup found in most monster movies (especially Godzilla) that precedes the city stomping we love so much.

Seriously, I must have some kind of fucking beacon on my head that alerts people when I'm going to see a movie I really WANT to see. I had some dumb fucking old guy like right next to me with a voice deeper then Sean Connery.

During the whole movie all he did was say "This movie is boring", "I wasted my money on this", "Get to the good part". To top it all off after the movie he litteraly as loud as he could said the movie was a piece of shit.

Not to mention having 40 bajillion phones decide to ring with the most utterly annoying ring tones a person could put on their phone.



All in all a great movie

What time was the showing you went to? I've found that if I head to a screening before sunset, usually you'll end up with people that actually want to see the movie they're watching. Saw it myself earlier today and enjoyed it greatly. I had heard the bit about something falling into the ocean, so at the very end I was looking for something, but I missed it.

Definitely don't think they could have pulled off the sense of urgency and panic without the camera as it was.

Movie started at about 12:40 - 2 something. Sadly it was the only time I could actually get to see the movie otherwise I would have went Friday at the first showing

I liked it. My only complaints were it was too dark / blurry for a lot of the film, if there were more scenes with light in it I'd have liked that but oh wells. OH also hud is annoying, if I was robert and hud was constantly shouting in my face "we gotta go back" x 50 I'd have punched him or told him to shut up.

People complaining about the "monster movie" not being an action packed film - duh. This movie wasn't about the monster itself, the movie wasn't even about the 5 people's journey through the city, the film was about the scenario in general. Not necessarily about the scenario of "Monster attacking city", more so "Extreme panic".

I think the most hilarious thing in this thread (aside from SephirothYuyx telling us how he's really superman) is the part where Seph complains how the movie felt unscripted. Yet another "Well duh". Despite having a script, it's meant to feel unscripted/unpolished/extremely raw. All that stuff you complained about is intentional.


Big props to J.J.Abrams for not including "It must be a terrorist attack" in the movie when they saw the planes falling. I'm sure in another movie they'd have done the overused "IT MUST BE TERRORISTS" thing.

Saw the question posted earlier, then i found this gif. Looks like she exploded. You can see in a few frames her stomach expanding.

It was a decent movie, I saw a cam version, so it was hard to tell what intentionally sounded bad or what was the cams fault.

I only had two problems with the movie. First what the hell were they thinking walking down an unlit tunnel. Seems like the most idiotic action to take in that situation. Maybe cutting off all routes of escape while stumbling for blocks trying to avoid the third rail in near darkness is the correct course of action, it just wouldn't be mine. My second problem was the whole close up of the monster at the end (gif below). If a twenty story monster was sniffing me, i think it would appear much larger in the camcorder. In fact the whole ending, from the helicopter crash 'til the explosion, seemed like it was hastily added just to show a close up of the monster. Movie should have cut from the crash right to them on the ferris wheel.

I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Trekkie, anymore. But I have a huge interest in space-naval combat. My brother made me watch the original series, and The Next Generation, growing up, so I think I've got some ties to it. I mean, one of my favorite game series of all time was Wing Commander. Anyway, any chance we can hopefully see space ships fighting, I'm super excited.

When they were on the roof on the beginning I actually laughed when they went "IS IT ANOTHER TERRORIST ATTACK?"

And seeing Marlene's explosion slowed down is cool, maybe the guy on the stretcher with his guts hanging out was bitten too

I was actually a little excited by it. I liked Star Trek growing up but the last 2 movies were pretty meh.
