    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

Scientology isn't pitched as a religion at all to the "off the street" people. It's a self-help-esque program. They don't get into Xenu and the volcanos and the creation story and all that shit for a long time. It's just personality (and bullshit theton reading) tests and tons of indoctrination that "you are unhappy - see this test result! and your only path to happiness is us!"

Crazy (and bankrupt indentured servitude) extends from there.

    Just a random thought.
cartoon's have so many uses though.

look at all the old Disney flicks that were WW2 based for example.

I think people knew scientology was retarded before South Park make fun of them, even if they didnt knew every detail. It just upgraded them from "retarded religious group" to "joke religious group". It was bound to happen sooner or later.

    You'd be amazed.

Most people believe in things that, isolated from everything else, is just completely batshit crazy when you really look at it. Scientology just happens to be a lot more obvious about it because it's "newer" and, hence, not as "respected" yet as all the other ridiculous things people believe in. With any luck it'll disappear before that happens.
Also, for the not-so-true-believers, tax purposes.

Do you remember the thing about swallowing spiders when you're asleep? Let me refresh your memory if not.

Everyone knows that you swallow like 4 spiders a year while sleeping right? Well, see the thing is, someone wanted to test the "credibility" of the internet. So they started a *FAKE* rumor, claiming that you swallow X amount of spiders per year, and put it on the internet to see if people would actually believe it just because it was on the internet. Well, it worked, and now it's common "knowledge," even thought it's not actually even true.

Quite literally replace "on the internet" with "a religion," and you seriously have scientology. A fake religion, started simply to see if people would fall for it, and it's actually freaking working.

    /sigh what a wonderfuuullll woooooorllldddd

Cause Scientology is less believable than a man dying and coming back to life or magically turning water into wine, a virgin giving birth or the rest of the bullshit Christianity and every other religion spouts.

Dunno if this was directed at me, but yeah I say the same thing about that shit too... You said that like you assume we are all christians here or something. Or are you defending scientology? I'm not sure what your point was...

Just saying in general how people will go "lolscientology" "lolmormons" etc and then be like "obviously christ is the path to salvation" or what have you, i just find it funny that some of the most brilliant people can cling to a(ny) religion when the truth is obvious but you try to point it out and they just say "you have to have faith!"

That's what I was saying. It doesn't really have anything to do with how far fetched the beliefs are or aren't or what they do to people's daily lives, Scientology is just an easier target for people because compared to everything else, it's relatively new and not as respected as everything else is

    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

In all Honesty, I don't judge religons unless i have the facts, and honestly, I hate questioning faith. Example, I denounced faith to the the Catholic church, but I don't try converting people to my side, I admire their faith.

Now, I look at Scientology and when looking at it next to a talking Snake, a man and a Rib-bitch populating the Earth, and clearly people fucking family, Scientology's retarded.

Of course, South Park first supplied the initial info, which sparked my curiousity to do some research, same said for Mormonism (Which i like due to family value).

All in all, Scientology is retarded. Not a matter of faith, matter of brains. I'd personally like to dump my trash on the Church in Fairfield, Connecticut...but Jail time's not worth it just to send a message to fools.

I hope the Chans fuck them up.

I could point out like 3 or 4 things I disagree in with that post, but I really don't want to turn the thread into another religious debate, because those really never get anywhere. With that said, I encourage you, every time you look at someone else's beliefs and think to yourself "wtf, that's ridiculous, how does any sane person believe in all this ?", you look first to your own (whatever they may be, I'm not here to point fingers to any particular one) and seriously ask if the claims they make are any less strange or far fetched.

It is (or at least it damn well should be) some feat of mental acrobatics to condemn someone for wearing holy underwear while just last week you thought you saw abraham lincoln's face on your grilled cheese sandwich.

Yes, I know the vast majority of religious people wouldn't believe either one of the last two things I mentioned. I'm using a hyperbole to make a point here :/

See I disagree with you on one m ajor point. No matter how crazy you may say other religions are too, there is something important about scientology that all other religions out today don't have. And it's simply that scientology is so new.

Why would that matter? While we can argue till the cows come home about whether Jesus did the things he did because of so little info outside the bible. We DO know a lot, and I mean a LOT about Ron Hubbard, because it was so recent that we have a lot of reports about him outside scientology.

He was reported by many many people stating at a SciFi convention that the best way to make money was to start a religion.

Scientology was originally his self help book that didn't do so well that he turned into a religion.

He and his wife bought a huge ass yacht and got the f out of the country after they made thousands upon thousands of dollars OFF OF THEIR BELIEVERS.

Oh and what was he doing on the boat shortly before he passed away? There are reports from those evil doctors and (omg shock) evil psyciatrists (who scientologists are strongly against) who were taking care of him because he was sick and wanted to live longer.

So like I said, we really have little history of the "real" Jesus. For all we know the mirror in Japan is really Amaterasu's. There could be many many Buddahs out there. Of course there can be many arguements as to the credibility and believability of such people/gods/whatever, but all of that is speculation because there's little proof to support or deny.

Scientology is much different as we don't need to speculate about Hubbard's intentions. We already have enough facts to know what his intentions were. Which makes Scientology a very bad cult.

Now maybe thousands of years from now people can speculate on whether Xenu really exists, but I can't imagine there should be any now while it's so recent and the reality is staring at us right in the face.

Yes, it is.You can easily take your distance from those miracles in christianism (or most old religion), but still follow the value teached in those story. Scientology without science fiction story is nothing more than a big money scam.

    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

It seems that some atheists are using this chance to proclaim that scientology is no worse than any other religion, because as we all know most of them get major titty twisters at any mention of religion. But they seem to ignore that scientology is on a whole nother level of fucking batshit insane crazy. I would call for atheists to look beyond their searing hate for christianity/islam/insertculthere, and focus on the fact that scientology fucking sucks.

    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

As some have correctly noted - Scientology is self-help cult #1, money-making scheme #1a, and religion #10.

The fact that the "religion" part of it is so wacky shouldn't be the main focus here - people give their lives over completely to this - liquidating their worldly possessions and give them to Scientology, then working exclusively for Scientology for room/board, basically for life.

It is a very-well executed cult, designed to profit its leaders. Since there aren't mass suicides or rampant child molestation going on, it has a way, way longer shelf life than most cults. Coupled with it's army of lawyers, it's pretty invincible, and that's a tragedy.

Is Scientology actually censoring comments on Youtube? I get the feeling most of them are just copy/pasting the stuff for the sake of lulz, but i do wonder.
