You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

found this for anyone who thinks this is just "another waky religion". Watch these:

Hubbard himself saying on video "there's one thing you can say about dianetics and scientology, and I'm sorry if this sounds odd. But it isn't everybody who can write a book that turns the world on it's ear." (then smiles)

Dunno how it can be proved any more that this is a cult when we have video coming right from the creator's mouth.

I'd say internet and popular media propaganda/anti-propaganda campaigns are actually much more dangerous than Scientology. And equally stupid. It's ironic how masses of people are now sincerely taking a standpoint against Scientology, based solely on youtube links spread on internet forums. It's the same concept Scientology and other religions use to gain their followers.

If you lump every "propoganda/anti-propoganda campaign" together, sure they are "more dangerous" (whatever that means) than Scientology.

However, saying that people railing against this cult "are worse than Scientology itself" is colossally stupid.

What's the big deal anyway? It's a small group of rich people pissing their money away. For colossally stupid reasons, sure, but I'm gonna have to agree with the sentiments about other religions being similarly as stupid. Mormonism is another recent development, and they've got some batshit stuff going on too. Special underwear, gold tablets in a buried hat, your own planet in the afterlife, church influence on parishioner's income, etc. I suppose there's something noble in trying to cut it off before it can gain too strong a foothold, but the bottom line is that the concept isn't so different from just about every other religion- it's a means of control, thusly power, via answering fears of the unknown. And if you can't see money's relation to power and vice-versa, you'd be woefully ignorant of the society and world we currently live in.

    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

    i dislike scientology cuz

A: L Ron said basically it's easy to make money of a religion

B: To learn about scientology you have to pay to learn certain things. I

in a real religion everything what they teaches you is free to all. Nothing is hidden away for people who want to pay money to find out.

thats why they will be nothing more then a cult.

Rather it may be because i study psychology, and i find this specific organization's intent of "replacing" psychology, whilst concucting conspiracy like information about how psychology did 911, that makes me very leery of it. It's not like a certain religion denying evolution, not too much harm in that, even though i'm sure you opose it to, Beckwin. Or even the church's attempt at rejecting forms of contraception, and by the way, they are finding themselves hard pressed to pursue this position, none of this, compares to a religion that puts its followers at real active danger by rejecting common practices of mental well being.

You also have this organization that very aggresively attacks anyone who opposes it. You can only really compare their behaviour to that of Islam, and we all know how much we disaprove of this. Scientology is also far too secretive an organization to actually be a religion. Many other religions at least attempt to use their resources for the perceived better good, and in no way try to get rich off it, yet Scientology seems to be, very painfuly, quite the opposite.

And maybe it may also be, because we live in an age where religion is far less favored as it used to be, and because Scientology is the new religion on the block that seems to do very little to hide its very negative aspects, that we find it necessary to harshly criticize it. Think of it, like you already said, trying to stamp it out before it gets a big enough foot hold to really become a thorn on our side.

This is why the "church" is worse than most others.

-There are religions that reject modern medical care almost entirely.
-Islam (and select others) has elements that aggressively attack with violence- something far worse than litigation. And what of religious leaders using their influence to politically attack abortion, intelligent sex education, and the teaching of evolution?
-I'll agree that Scientology does seem highly secretive, but I think the organizations of most religions have their share of secrets.

Yes, it is of course easier to kill an infant than an adult. And how many countless would-be true paths have been eliminated over the course of history? It's obvious it can be done, and it invariably will be done again and again and again, but I'd kinda hope by now people could start seeing the greater problem at work.

Just to make things clear, Scientology is a crock of shit and L.Ron pulled off a fucking epic hustle. I just don't see much difference between it and other religions in terms of greater societal effect. Don't really care for 4chan either; guess they just need to keep entertained.

    That AND...

    http://www.whyaretheydead.net/

things like coachroach bites on the body, bodies found with their skin burned off, people who are throwing their children off a cliff are what makes it a big deal. Of course I could not give a damn because I don't know any scientologists personally. But I would never want to be the person that only fought for things that would give me personal gain. People are being hurt not just financially, but physically.

Seeing jesus in your fridge is much much different than what scientologists are doing.

I agree that refusing necessary medical care is akin to blowing yourself up or lighting yourself on fire. (same goes for teaching/directing people to do so)

So, what's your point exactly? That we should just let Scientology continue to kill people because other religions kill people? Why are you arguing with us?

I find it odd that Hubbard was a Science Fiction writer.
They're all believing in one of his books is my guess.

Exactly, most of everything you mentioned i already addressed, and so the conclusion we come to is that this specific "religion" has a great amount of negatives. And its characteristics are also far too similar to that of a cults for my liking. For example, the disconnecting org members from other family members who are not Scientologist. And, once again, there are also other "religions" who do this, i can't quite name any off the top of my head, but we also don't look at these other organizations within a positive light.

I think Beckwin is just trying to be reasonable. Meaning, some people critisize Scientology for aspects their own religions also possess. And i understand that, but you are also hard pressed in defending Scientology by saying: "Yea, well, you do it to".

Also, it helps that i'm agnostic and the above tactic won't work on me.

qft, also read the whole wiki article before responding again. Please. If we were to catch those Islamic suicide-bombers and Buddhist suicide-protesters before they killed anyone we'd lock them up.

But the part about scientology that makes it worse is that's much much harder to do. They had evidence of ill-treatment to McPherson enough to get many convicted. But read the story. Scientologists are relentless when it comes to court cases. And they basically go the case dropped over constant threats.

You know that vid of Tom Cruise? Can't be shown on youtube/googlevid/etc as they threatened to sue. If you post a website against them they will force the hosting site to get your page shut down. There are many reports from ex-scientologists of being threatened and stalked whenever they speak about the truth.

What matters? There was a report that a young adult with bi-polar was forced to go off his medicine. He then proceeded to stab his parents to death. Say (I hope this wouldn't happen but) this happened to a close friend/family member. And even with a lot of evidence the case against the killer/scientology was dismissed because of them scaring/threating/stalking the witnesses to the point they drop out.

This type of shit is almost as bad as big brother if it gets to far out of control. All from a bad SciFi writer.

    Re: 4chan vs. Scientology

Don't confuse what I'm saying with a defense for Scientology. Like I said, it's a crock of shit, they aren't promoting good health, and L.Ron was a hustler. I've read the wiki, I've seen numerous youtube vids, the Cruise interviews, and I'm even a big South Park fan to boot. I'm just questioning the greater "why?" behind the dredges of the internet organizing an attack on this particular religion after a bit of a news surge when the greater problem has been around all along. Not that I expect any sort of legitimate notions of justice or reason out of the chans, but maybe there might be some levelheadedness among outside supporters.
