Yeah, I dunno, beta opens up soon, looks like an HM MMO.

I don't know what HM means, but for awhile /v/ was going crazy over Mabinogi.
I don't really see that many threads about it now.
I hear it's not going to be your typical Korean grindfest and you can get xp through many things other than fighting, but I haven't looked at any info on it.
I guess I'll check that site later.
It's not a grind fest, but it's definitely a game directed towards the more casual pre-teen/teen crowd. I used to play Korean test server about 3 years ago, and while it was fun at the time; the game is VERY light on content. It's definitely focussed on community and socialization. For more information by what I mean by light content, check out the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mabinogi_(game)
If you look at the list of skills they have, they're very little (40% of them won't even be released on the US servers for at least a year). There are also not very many zones at all. The combat is interesting at first (described as an advanced rock paper scissors), but after awhile you just find yourself exploiting mob AI to defeat tedious bosses.
Plus, expect to pay for all the fun stuff; pets, extra chars, rebirthing*(recreating a char, while keeping old skills, kinda like a new game+ feature), etc.
*A character ages every week, after you reach a certain age, you stop gaining skill points to put into skills, and it becomes harder to level; hence why rebirthing is necessary.
HM MMO is a common misconception I think. It doesn't look good at all. I remember hearing something about needing to RMT for good itamz, fuck that.

Even if you could overlook that, the mechanics look boring as hell though. Even the average korean MMOs usually have some kind of decent character diversity![]()
Well, you don't need to, the game is easily playable without rebirthing; but if you plan on playing this game at all with any variety, you need to buy a character card to be used to rebirth OR create a new character. Same card, same price, about 15 USD. Yeah, the game definitely forces you to pay or be gimp.Originally Posted by Kaelan
Nothing wrong with them trying to make money of the game they developped... And how is it a "disguised" payment. It's not like you dont know that before starting to play.A way of disguising forced payment into looking like optional payment? Lying to your consumer base, no thx.
Oh wow, screw this game then. First time ive ever seen that kind of system lol, must pay to not be gimp. (wait.. maybe I have seen it in FFXI..)
Haha, oh wow.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX

I have a problem with games trying to lure people in with "no monthly fees!" but make you pay for shit to not be gimp instead of working for it. monthly fees are not that bad, I'd rather pay a monthly fee and have a decent game then have a shit game for free taking up space.
It's not really new, there's plenty of games that do it. In Runescape, for example, you can play for free and only access part of the content or pay a membership to get the full content. But there they at least tell you right off the bat exactly what the situation is so you know perfectly well what you're going in for, whatever option you happen to choose.Oh wow, screw this game then. Of course there's nothing wrong with paying fees for a game (we are on FFXI boards, meaning I, like most people here, play it and pay for it). The problem is the fact that they deliberately choose to not let people know the way it really works, which is about as good as lying (false advertisement, I suppose?)Originally Posted by Kaylia

You guys are sensitive. Next thing I'm going to hear is someone complaining about McDonald not mentioning you had to pay the first BigMac to get the second for free.Originally Posted by Kaelan
They say you can play the game completely for free, and it's true. Of course they will try to make money out of it, but it's not like they lied to you either.
In the closed beta for this.
It's relatively fun, but the beta is severely limited area-wise. Playing music is probably one of the high points in this game, heh.
No, the game is just really that small. My sister was playing CB and everything that should be in the initial release is there pretty much there. As I said earlier, this game is very light on content.Originally Posted by Arelian
I signed up for the Fileplanet closed beta, /uninstall... just another shitty Free 2 Play mmo... if you can even call it that.
