Honestly, most of the best end-game PLD gear is ra/ex. I do admit, in this case, they are lacking a few pieces.

The best PLD/NIN gear isn't that hard to get since it's pretty much Omega drops, but still it can be pretty time consuming, and tbh the only decent PLD/NIN pieces that are actually buyable are dusk gloves/speed belt but not everyone can afford a speed belt >_>.
Those two paladins have been in the "end game" for a long long time. There is no excuse for their gear choices except ignorance. That is their full time gear and they tank everything in it. And yes, its messy fights, and they kill things by the sheer numbers. They are really a shell of the ls they once were. No pun intended <.<

Setting the benchmark for aspiring Ninjas everywhere.
man, i miss the days of getting in a party and going "omg this guy has a SH"
what is wrong with that Ninja (on top of the picture being in town) ?
The katanas?

Dude (WAR/NIN) shows to camp in GSword, so I promptly fire up the BG button, however he counters with setup on the right.
So yeah. Hmm, missing some dusk pieces, but still. He was tanking (other war was Axe/Joy lol) anyway.
Omega isn't really that time consuming. Considering you only need 4 chips you can fight him every 2.5 weeks (not counting chips you get farming gunpods). Thr group I got mine with got about 3-4 sets of the useful stuff (only 2 hat dorps :nikkei: ) in like 2-3 months farming Omega.Originally Posted by Seditedi
Omega may not be but Dynamis, for example, is a HUGE timesink. Also, keep in mind, that you'll be competing against others for Homam gear, so I doubt you'll get your full homam set very soon >_>Originally Posted by Tomiko
Then you come across people who just don't have sea, by no fault of their own, just that they joined the game late and are trying to get it the same way you were back in the day. And failing miserably because none of their friends who've cleared CoP want to go back and help them (I know I sure as hell don't) so they have to rely on terrible pick-ups or rarely successful LS groups that have all sorts of conflicting schedules.Originally Posted by Khalil

Going along the lines of PLD being more R/E intensive....
Sure it is, but you can put together a decent setup with minimal effort, and perform much better than the PLDs we are seeing in this thread.
AF Body and Feet aren't bad. Dusk Hands, Mach+1, Wivre Shield, Hades Earrings, Harmonias Torque, Shield Torque, Hercules Ring, Mermaids Ring, Resentment Cape, Swift Belt, Iron Ram Lance, Coral Gear.
All easy to obtain, and a hell of a lot better than tanking PLD/NIN in no Haste and like 5 Enmity.
Even someone with 0 endgame gear can have a "passable" PLD setup to start out on.
Honestly the biggest fail PLDs I see are the ones with one set of gear, zero swaps, zero MDB builds, zero resist builds, I consider these things bare minimum for PLD yet they are a rarity on a LOT of the endgame PLDs around.
Some mobs would need some evasion (even a full build), i mean he's in town now, so you don't know where he's been, or what he's been fighting.Originally Posted by Eanae
I find the fact that you think gathering 2mil+(Bismarck prices) (Didn't even factor coral gear in, I also didn't even look up prices on any item you didn't list... then the fact that I looked at NQ Hades Earrings, HQ would have doubled this figure) worth of gear, camping a 21hr pop NM before doing any endgame to be 'minimal effort' lolable.Originally Posted by Furionstormrage
Hell, I didn't even factor in that 90% of times PLDs without a LS have a bitch of a time getting any merits, especially without a DD setup, so that's even more money you gotta throw at the job just to be considered half decent.
Gearing up a PLD takes time, I don't know why people here expect folks to have it all at once.
They also better not go 1/15+ on Swift Belt, or that's another chunk of change, not to mention the time it'd take to get 15 or more swift belt runs going since almost everyone that wants them already has them these days.
Also, I'm not sure if I made myself clear, but the point I was trying to make is that it's a lot easier, faster, and more sensible to join a shell and do what you can with what you have than to spend a ton of time trying to build what you called a 'passable' equip setup before joining. (As I assume most of the PLDs we see in this thread have done.)
Hell, getting in a shell would cut out the need to get some of those items just due to there being better alternatives that simply drop. Homam hands, etc
If you are soloing or holding a mob an evasion build is fine as long as you use at least some haste for utsusemi recast.Also- fuck yeah evasion builds![]()
The majority of the time though yeah, you are going to want either a TP or Enmity build depending on the situation.
whooosh

In my party now, also autoruns into most mobs making it move constantly :nikkei: It's actually not all that bad but some pieces just make me sad

No, that other ring is not a Sniper, Woodsman, or a Jaeger. It's a Venerer.
Yes, those are Dodge Earrings.
Yes, that's an NQ Amemet.
Yes, that's a Warrior's Belt.
And to top it off... yes, that's a Great Sword. On a Warrior. And it's a lv60 Great Sword called a Zweihander.
Yet he has a Byrnie.
Why, for the love of god, why?![]()
Despite me being PUP, according to parse I was doing 45% of total damage output in this party.
The WAR was doing 10%.
Gawd.
