    aim stuff

so my school apparently got smart and blocked the aim address the messenger client uses to connect? (I use my laptop and was just able to use 6.5 or w/e it is now to get on) Gaim still works, for some reason, if I go to auto configure it tells me it's fine, but it just tells me connection lost when I try to connect. Any idea whats going on or how I can fix it? (I'd rather use the normal client then gaim if possible)

    Thanks!

It's possible, but would require a proxy, probably written specifically for the task. You'd need find a way of telling the AIM client to connect to a different address, outside your LAN, which would then forward all data to the AIM server.

So unless you find something someone has written like that, or you know an able programmer, you're kinda fucked.

They usually just block ports. Pidgin (GAIM 2.0) might work if you can't find GAIM or if it doesn't work.

gaim works, aim lite even works but the normal client doesn't, and I prefer that over the others, I'll live with aim lite was just curious if there was another way to use the normal client.

Well, for me, I use meebo.com. This program allows you to connect to any of the main IM sites (MSN, Google Talk, AIM, etc.) I have used it before! Maybe that would be a good alternative if they simply blocked anything with AOL or AIM in it....?
